MISTAKE 75
Chapter
75: Surrounded.
Anya and Wendy had stopped by a mall to check out a few designs. Wendy convinced Anya she had the perfect places to check out, and Anya could only follow.
She
moved around with guards; people moved out of the way for them. Anya was not used to this many guards, but Wendy did not even flinch.
There was a coldness about Wendy and, at the same time, a genuine warmth that shone through in the fond glances she threw her new daughter–in–law’s way every now and then. And the maternal affection softened her regal features,
Anya was having the time of her life shopping with her. Wendy made the most scathing comments about outfits that would have made the designers roll in pain, but Anya wanted to roll in laughter instead.
Anya had to take a moment. Here she was, rubbing elbows with the elite of high society, her every whim catered to and her safety ensured by the phalanx of imposing bodyguards that trailed discreetly in their wake.
The ever–present security detail was still something Anya was growing accustomed to, a stark reminder of danger that came with being part of the infamous Shaw family.
She had initially resisted the idea of being followed, finding the constant presence of armed guards just annoying, but Wendy, ever so convincing, had gently insisted. She finally got her security as Daniel’s wife, but she was not used to it.
“It’s for your own protection, my dear,” she had assured Anya with a warm smile that would make anyone think of her as harmless.
“Our family has its fair share of enemies, you know that. Precautions must be taken to ensure your safety, or else my son will lose his mind if something happens to you.” The older woman

One of the men, his expensive suit now rumpled and covered with dust and blood, shot her a cold stare through narrowed eyes.
“Let go of me. Tell your guards to let go of me or you will not be able to deal with consequences,” he basically spat.
But when Anya saw the sorry state of the man on the ground, she could not help but scoff. It seemed this man had not yet accepted reality.
She almost felt the need to laugh as she said, “I have never seen abductors such as your group before. Even after you have been caught, you still try to act as though you have everything under control. Are you crazy?”
Her voice was oddly calm as she looked at them and at the slight crowd around them. “If someone did not know, they would think I am the one trying to abduct you.”
“We only meant to invite you over; why are you saying that we are trying to abduct you?” he sneered. “You are the one who overreacted when we tried to politely invite you over.”
A deafening silence fell over the small crowd; it seemed everyone was speechless. Did he say politely invite her? Trying to grab someone in broad daylight was considered polite?
Anya thought she had just heard the most ridiculous thing to have ever been said.
So, as she turned to meet Wendy’s gaze, it was as though she was looking for someone to confirm that her ears were working.
“He can’t be serious, right?” Anya asked.
“It seems he is crazy,” Wendy commented.

“He came to take me forcefully, but I am overreacting? Has there anyone who has stood still to be taken?” Anya asked, causing a few giggles to run through the crowd. NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
“You better come while I am being nice!” the man continued to speak. He was still ordering Anya while being held down.
“Shut your trap,” Wendy hissed, her voice trembling with scarcely contained rage as she stepped forward. She was done with this play. “Do you believe I would make you disappear if I heard one more word from you?”
Such a good day was ruined by some random people.
Wendy had already made up her mind to have him captured and taken back for questioning. It seemed he was brave. It did not matter. After a few hours of torture, he will talk.
If the man knew what was going on in Wendy’s mind, he would have shivered. But for some reason, he did not take these two women seriously.
He was given a task by his mistress and will fulfill it well. Even if he had to use force. He had completely forgotten where he was. He was in a public place, and the ruckus had attracted a lot of attention as people stopped to watch.
