MISTAKE 76
Chapter 76: Selene’s embarrassment
Anya thought this was the most absurd thing she had seen a person do in public.
Who would try to forcefully abduct someone when people have already taken out their cameras and a crowd has formed?
“Tell your mistress this,” she stated nonchalantly. “I am not her staff. If she wants to see me, she needs to use her two legs and book an appointment to see if I am free first.”
Anya almost said she was a Shaw, but people were videoing the situation. She was not stupid. With their family business, they needed to be more lowkey.
Even so, this was her world now, her domain. Her husband had already told her that she did not need to fear anyone while in this city. She trusted him greatly. She knew he would not say useless words.
She was sure that if anyone dared to touch her in this city, well, they would soon learn the true depths of the Shaw family’s power. This she was sure of.
While Anya’s guards pressed these unknown men who tried to take Anya painfully to the ground.
Anya questioned them sternly; her eyes narrowed with suspicion. One of the men thrashed wildly, yelling profanities as the guards‘ grips tightened around his limbs.
Wendy quickly pulled Anya back to her side, shielding her from potential harm.
The crowd that had gathered gasped and murmured in shock at the sudden scuffle unfolding on the upscale city street. Curious onlookers cramed their necks, phones at the ready to capture any viral– worthy drama.
elena’s embarrassment
Before they could interrogate the culprits further, a woman strode forward confidently, raising a perfectly manicured hand. “Stop!” she shouted, her voice cutting through the commotion like a knife.
Anya and Wendy turned their gazes to the newcomer.
They both knew her. It was Selene.
“Miss Selene,” Anya said when she saw her. She could already guess mistress the man was going on about.
this was the young
When Anya’s expression remained blank, Selene continued imperiously. “I only wanted to invite you away to talk privately, Ms. Jones. I meant no harm.”
Selene was so focused on Anya she did not catch Wendy, who was beside her. Maybe it was because the guards still blocked the way, blocking her view.
Confused murmurs rippled through the gathering crowd as Anya arched one sculpted eyebrow. “By having your goons attempt to abduct me? An odd way to request a conversation, Ms. Selene.”
Selene’s eyes flashed with irritation at Anya’s mocking tone. “You really have become proud. after dating a married man?”
A collective gasp went
up
from the spectators at this shocking accusation.
There was drama, alright. Many wanted to film it, but guards were now going around ordering them to put down their phones. Several people turned to those beside them, hands covering open mouths as they excitedly relayed what they overheard.
Chapter 6: Selene’s embarrassment
Anya’s guards tensed, ready to intervene, but Wendy squeezed her daughter–in–law’s arm in a warning to stay calm.
“Whose man am I supposedly dating?” Anya asked evenly; her chin raised a fraction. She was not sure what tricks this girl was up to now, but she was very curious to find out.
Anya felt something was really wrong with Selene. There was a mad look in her eyes, as though she wanted to kill her. This caught the attention of Anya’s guards.
“My fiancé, Daniel Shaw,” Selene spat out the words like venom, ignoring the murmurs now spreading through the crowd. “His family arranged our match a while ago. I am his childhood lover. Why are you tying yourself with a taken man?”
For a long moment, Anya simply stared at Selene as if she had grown a second head.
Then she began to laugh–a deep, rich sound that echoed through the stunned silence and caused several spectators to jump.
“My husband? When did my husband become a taken man?” Anya asked.
Her words only provoked Selene further. The wild look in Selene’s eyes intensified.
“Why are you calling him your husband? Do you have any shame?” Selene asked in anger.
“Why should I have shame? We signed the documents saying we are married and the law recognizes this; why is he not my husband?” Anya asks, and Selene becomes livid. Was it possible that Daniel really remarried her?
Of course she did not believe this, but who else bot Daniel knew this?
A stunned hush fell over the crowd at this unexpected plot twist.
herw
Anya was confused. Why was Selene talking as though Daniel not marrying a done deal? Why did she say his family had arranged something? Was there a conspiracy?
Selene, for her part, looked utterly gobsmacked. Her perfectly glossed lips twisted into a sneer as her eyes shifted wildly at Anya. Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
“What did you say?” she asked Anya.
“I also want to know how Daniel got engaged to you. This girl, why are you going around spreading lies?” Wendy asked coldly.
“This is between me and her!” Selene countered without bothering to look at Wendy, despite the fact that she found Wendy’s voice familiar, “And I am not telling lies! His family had arranged everything; when did a wife appear? Anya, you dare tell lies!”
“How is this between you and her? You walk over and tell my daughter–in–law that my husband and I have matched you and Daniel?” Wendy asked, and Selene froze.
Gasps and murmurs exploded anew from the enthralled onlookers. The plot had gotten more twisted. Selene visibly paled and finally looked at Wendy, and her pupils shrank.
“You…you’re Mrs. Shaw,” she stammered, clearly recognizing Wendy. Even with her eyes closed, she could recognize Daniel’s mother.
“Have your family and mine met? Why did no one tell me my son was arranging to marry you? Why was my husband not there? You dare spread lies around?” Wendy asked dangerously. Wendy was on edge. She was not sure what was happening that this girl she knew so well would say such things, but Anya had barely started talking to Daniel. She had to refute this
nonsense.
“I only thought… since Old Master Rhodes…” Selene stammered. It seemed she had only come to embarrass herself.
“What, Old Master? My father? My son is already married. If you want to be a mistress, have some shame. I have never seen anyone confront the legal wife this way,” Wendy scolded.
He was really remarried? It was not a lie? It was not fake? Then what about the plans she had. made for herself and Daniel? How could he really marry this tramp?
Selene flushed crimson as Wendy’s words made her unable to lift her head.
Selene noticed the crowd taking videos and pointing. She immediately regretted saying her family name. She was sure the news would spread around the city in no time and she would be embarrassed.
Humiliated, she turned on her heel and fled, her men hurrying behind her retreating figure as if a pack of wolves were pursing her out for blood.
No doubt this juicy scene would spread like wildfire through Capital elite circles by evening/ Anya could only imagine the endless things that would be said online. That Selene actually mentioned Daniel’s name.
Well,” Wendy said briskly once the commotion began to die down. She retrieved her fallen purse from the sidewalk with an air of unruffled dignity. “That was certainly an eventful outing. Shall we continue on to the salon? I could use a massage after this ridiculousness.”
Shaking her head tiredly, Anya looped her arm through Wendy’s.
What did other people’s embarrassment have to do with her?
She was having the time of her life. She had not shopped with a mother figure before and was
or anyone to get in the way.
