Chapter 322 Two Completely Unrelated People
How could Maddox be here? Although she had a good relationship with Jeff, he had never invited her out for a meal before. She was curious. It turned out that this dinner was not ordinary.
Freya stepped out of the restaurant and sent a text message to Jeff on her phone, “I have an urgent matter and can’t make it.” After sending the message, she turned and left. She strolled alone on the bustling streets of a foreign city. Freya wore a beige woven dress, with a loose cardigan of the same color on top, a scarf wrapped around her head, covering her cheeks and neck. She hugged her arms. Rarely did she have such a leisurely day. She walked slowly, enjoying the scenery of the street.
“Alright, I got it,” Ronan said while walking and answering the phone. Accidentally bumping into someone, he turned around, ready to apologize, but then he saw it was the same woman. But with her scar-covered face hidden, only her forehead and eyes were visible, and they resembled someone.
He stared at her in disbelief. Freya quickly covered her face. Lowering her head, she walked briskly. Ronan snapped out of it and jogged to catch up, “Hey, why are you running? I’m not going to eat you.”
Freya kept her head down and didn’t respond.
Ronan grabbed her wrist, “You broke my shoe the last time and haven’t compensated me yet. You’re not allowed to leave.” He pulled her forcefully.
A gust of wind blew, causing the scarf on Freya’s face to slide down to her shoulder, revealing the scars on her face. The corner of Ronan’s eye twitched. The scars on her face were too gruesome. They lacked any sense of beauty. Freya broke free from his grip. Covering her face, she tried to walk past him.
“I didn’t mean anything else. It’s just that in a foreign country, meeting a ‘fellow countryman’ feels comforting. Look, I have to communicate with others in English, but with you, I don’t have to. Isn’t that a special connection?” Ronan blocked her path.
Freya widened her eyes.
Yes, the first time they spoke, she used the language of Country Z. She was so nervous at the time and she forgot about her surroundings. It seemed better to speak less.
Freya waved her hand, indicating that she didn’t want to talk and walked away quickly. Ronan stood there, staring at her. He thought he was probably seeing things. However, the woman before him was so ugly, completely different from Freya. How could two completely unrelated people like them have any connection?
Ronan shook his head, shaking off these messy thoughts.
…
The next morning.
Freya arrived at Mede, changed her clothes, put on a white coat, wore a mask, and hung her work badge around her neck, resting on her chest. She walked out of the changing room with her hands in her pockets.
“Jane, come over here, I have something to tell you.” Jeff seemed to have been waiting for her for a long time.
Freya walked over.
“Why didn’t you come yesterday?” he asked.
Freya didn’t know how to answer him. She couldn’t possibly say that she knew Maddox and didn’t enter the restaurant to avoid being seen by him.
“I was planning to introduce someone to you yesterday. He’s from Country Z, and I thought since we’re both from there, I wanted to help him. He’s also interested in the artificial heart research, you know how important that research is to our institute. Once we succeed, we’ll have a monopoly in this field. You should know that, then no matter if it’s Country Z or any other country, they will be at the mercy of Country M…”
“I know.” She understood these reasons.
Jeff frowned, “Then what were you thinking? That person told me that if you were willing to go back and help him with this research, you can set any conditions you want. He even said he has support from Skyline Co.. I did some rough research on Skyline Co.. It’s like a hidden conglomerate, with industries spread all over the world. With such a supporter, you can do research without any worries… Your abilities are recognized by everyone, your achievements here belong only to Country M.”
Freya was never going back, and hearing about Skyline Co. made it even more impossible for her to go back.
“Why aren’t you going back then?” she asked in return.
“Although I was born in Country Z, I grew up here since I was young. My whole family is here, we have assimilated into this place, it’s impossible to go back.” Jeff looked at her, “But you’re different. You’re a newcomer. When you first entered Mede, weren’t you excluded? It was only later that they saw your work abilities and changed their opinion of you. Your language level, combined with your abilities, allowed you to thrive here. But they are using you. After all, you’re from Country Z. Don’t you want to save more patients from Country Z?”
“Life is the same for everyone.” Freya said.Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
Jeff felt discouraged, “Well, think about it again?”
Freya clenched her hand that was in her pocket into a fist and said, “No need to think about it, I’m not going back.”
Jeff couldn’t do anything either. His words actually stirred something in Freya’s heart. But she didn’t have a choice. She needed a little bit of calmness.
As Freya walked out of the clubhouse, suddenly a person appeared in front of her. She was startled, widened her eyes, and turned around to leave.
But she was caught!
