You Are My Mr Right

Chapter 128 A Labor of Love

The lawyer hadn’t even begun reading the contents when Yolanda couldn’t wait any longer. She snatched the document away eagerly, opening the file to peruse its contents with hopeful anticipation. She imagined herself gaining control of the entire Stone family estate.

However, the more she read, the paler her face became. Eventually, not a hint of color remained.

“No, it can’t be. Leo can’t treat me like this. This must be fake, it has to be!” She went mad, tearing the documents apart.

The lawyer didn’t intervene because it was a copy, not the original. It didn’t matter if she tore it.

“You must have conspired against me!” She glared at the lawyer and focused her accusatory gaze on Freya and Elowen. “It’s you two, it must be you two scheming against me!”

Freya couldn’t be bothered to argue with her baseless accusations. She instructed the lawyer to continue reading the will.

Yolanda was unwilling to let go. Zane held his mother back and said, “Mom, Mr Barker was someone Dad trusted a lot. He wouldn’t lie. Please, stop making a scene.”

“Zane, I’m your mother…”

“I know you’re my mom. What result can you achieve by causing a scene now?” Zane retorted.

Yolanda fell silent, reluctantly listening to the lawyer reading the will.

“Commissioned by Mr Leo Stone, I’ll announce the will and distribute the property. The Stone family residence, funds, and savings are to be handed over to Elowen Noir, my beloved wife. The company is to be managed by Freya Stone and Zane Stone…”

At this point, the lawyer paused and continued, “There’s a special provision. Without Freya Stone’s consent, Zane Stone is not allowed to interfere in any company affairs. During this period, all company matters will be handled by Freya Stone. In other words, although Zane Stone owns half of the company’s shares, he has no say. Whether he gets a say or not is at Freya Stone’s discretion.”

Upon hearing this, Zane’s face remained expressionless. No anger, no resentment. A stark contrast to Yolanda, whose face contorted with rage.

“There’s one more thing for you.” The lawyer handed a letter to Freya.

She looked up at the lawyer who explained, “This should be Mr Stone’s message to you.”

Freya took the letter and read it calmly.

“You know what it says,” she said to the lawyer.

“I do. If you say the word, I can take action immediately.” The lawyer replied.

“Go ahead.” Freya said nonchalantly.

“What are we doing?” Elowen asked curiously.

“Before, Yolanda wanted to kill me. Although she didn’t succeed, it was still a crime. My dad found evidence that she was the mastermind behind it. Mr Barker will report it to the police and act as my lawyer.”

Yolanda collapsed in shock.Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.

Leo Stone not only left her with nothing but also wanted to ruin her completely.

She hated, she resented.

In the end, was all her efforts in vain?

“Mom, did you really do that?” Zane couldn’t believe it. Knowing his mother had schemes, he couldn’t fathom her attempting murder.

Yolanda, unwilling to accept, said, “Yes, I feared she would compete with you for the family fortune. Your father favored them, giving everything to the mother and daughter, ignoring us both! He even wanted me dead!”

A glint of darkness passed through Zane Stone’s eyes and disappeared quickly. He pushed Yolanda away.

“How could you? Even if Freya isn’t your biological daughter, we are both Dad’s children. How can you be so heartless? No wonder Dad didn’t leave you a penny. It’s because you did something wrong, and he punished you for it.” Said Zane.

Yolanda widened her eyes, incredulous. Now even her own son blamed her?

“Ah!” Yolanda felt broken inside. “What’s the point of living? I’ve been held back by a man my whole life, and now even my only son hates me. I might as well be dead…”

Yolanda cried genuinely. Her son’s words had wounded her deeply.

Freya stood up, looking at Yolanda. “Take responsibility for your actions and face the legal consequences. It’s also a small favor for your son.”

After saying this, she called Elowen. “Mom, let’s go.”

Elowen followed Freya out of the house.

With Leo Stone gone, the Stone family felt desolate.

“What did your dad’s letter say?” Elowen asked curiously. She had wanted to ask earlier, but Yolanda and her son were present.

“He hopes I can take care of Zane Stone.”

Elowen sneered, “What is he d thinking? Entrusting Zane Stone to you? Did he think you’d willingly accept? Even if you are willing, I won’t agree.”

Zane had been raised by Yolanda since childhood, influenced by her ways.

“So, Dad, in order to appease me, presented evidence of Yolanda harming me.” Freya did find Leo Stone a bit ruthless.

Yolanda had borne his child without a name or status. In the end, she left nothing for her. It was quite pitiful. It showed how cold-hearted people could be.

Elowen figured it out. “Your dad intentionally made you vent your anger, so you would be more willing to take in Zane Stone?”

Freya thought that was probably Leo Stone’s intention.

“Mom, did you ever love Dad?” she asked.

Elowen pressed her lips tightly. After a moment of silence, she spoke sadly, “Yes, of course, I loved him. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have married him. Even when I knew he had other women, I didn’t divorce him. I still harbored illusions about him.”

“Do you hate him?”

“He’s dead. What’s there to hate now? After the near-death experience, I’ve let go of everything.” Elowen was more open-minded now. She had surely resented and hated before. But now, with everyone gone, the past was water under the bridge.

Lawyer Barker acted swiftly. In just a few days, he resolved Yolanda Steele’s affairs. With evidence of her wrongdoing and her despondent state, the process was clean and swift.

The villa of the Stone family, where Freya had spent her childhood, was left to Elowen by Leo Stone. Presumably, he wanted the Stone family home to be preserved. Understanding Leo Stone’s intentions, Freya and Elowen, accompanied by Kai, moved into the villa. This way, Freya didn’t need to buy a new house. Now, her only concern was that she didn’t understand how to run a business. Leo Stone’s decision to hand over the company to her wasn’t the best choice.

But since her father had entrusted the company to her, she had to take responsibility. When Zane Stone was capable, she would hand over the company to him, and she would return to being a doctor. This arrangement was likely to wait for Zane to grow up before accepting the company. Currently, Zane Stone needed experience in various aspects. She thought it was Leo Stone’s labor of love. As his daughter, she should fulfill his last wish.

Among the people Freya knew, Elijah was the only one who understood business. However, he was usually busy, and she didn’t want to approach him directly. Instead, she thought of Xander, who was close to him.

Later, Freya arrived at Headence Group. She wanted to seek advice from Xander Cross.

“Come to my office,” Xander said.

Freya nodded.

Xander led her upstairs, and in the elevator, he asked, “Why come to me? Wouldn’t it be more convenient to find Mr Silverton?”

Although she hadn’t explicitly mentioned divorce to Elijah, she hadn’t forgotten Jack Silverton’s words that day. Therefore, she tried to avoid spending time with Elijah. The more she grew attached, the more painful the separation.

Soon, the elevator stopped. Freya followed Xander out. She looked up and saw Elijah not far away, accompanied by someone she had met before.
