Silas lamented once more, “Miranda, you’re such a lovely young woman. You’d have no trouble finding a nice young man, but why… How did you end up with him?”

Paul furrowed his brow. “What’s wrong with me? Is it that unbelievable for her to like me?”

“Shut up! Did I ask you? I’m talking to Miranda!”

Paul was at a loss for words.

Miranda thought for a moment. Then, she turned to look at Paul and.said earnestly, “Honestly, Dr. Jefferson is a good man.

“What’s so wonderful about him?”

“He’s considerate, gentle, mature, steady, intelligent, patient, cultured, and gentlemanly…”

Paul’s expression brightened up instantly, while Silas seemed to be drowning in bitterness. “Well… fine then.”

What else could he say now that Miranda had given her approval? But still…

“When did this start between you two?”

Paul answered, “Two weeks ago.”

“Unbelievable! And you didn’t tell me? Paul, I thought we were good friends, but it turns out that you’re treating me like an outsider!”

“I told you, but you

didn’t believe me.”

“When did you tell me?”

“Yesterday.”

Seeing the puzzled look on Silas‘ face, Paul continued, ‘I sent you a message saying that we’re together.” “No… Didn’t you say that you two were together talking about research?”

Paul remarked coldly, “Have you ever seen anyone go to someone else’s house so late at night to talk about research?”

“What?” Silas exploded. “You went to Miranda’s house and didn’t talk about research? Then what did you do?”

Paul was rendered speechless.

Sandy was enjoying her afternoon tea in the lounge area. “This cake is amazing. The cream isn’t too sweet nor too heavy. The silky and creamy taste is so delicious!” noveldrama

Bryan nodded. He usually didn’t like sweets, but he finished an entire piece by himself.

“Dr. Quinton, Dr. Jefferson, Miranda… You’re here!” Sandy got up and greeted them, “Come over here, the cake is on the table. Everyone gets a piece.”

Silas stormed over and grabbed a piece. He shoveled a big spoonful into his mouth angrily, feeling furious.

A young, accomplished woman like Miranda was wasted on Paul, that annoying pig. Furthermore, he wasn’t the first one to know about it. He only found out two weeks later!

Paul took a piece of cake and handed it to Miranda. He knew that she liked the blueberry flavor, so he kept the lime–flavored one for himself. Then, he handed her a fork with a clean napkin.

The series of actions Paul did was so natural and seamless that Sandy and Bryan didn’t even react despite being bystanders. After all, he had always treated Miranda with care.

Paul being kind to Miranda seemed like the most obvious and natural thing in the world. There was nothing unusual about it.

However, Silas couldn’t stand it. He wanted to laugh at the incredulousness of it all. It was as if he was seeing his past self.

A clueless fool who was kept entirely in the dark!

Sandy remarked, “Dr. Quinton, no one’s fighting for the cake. Why are you gobbling it up so fast? Are you hungry?”

“I’m not hungry. I’m angry.

“Huh?”

Paul suddenly spoke up, “Since everyone’s here, why don’t we go out for dinner later? My treat.”

Sandy said, “Dr. Jefferson, you’re so generous! You’ve been treating us a lot lately, and you even brought us lattes.”

Bryan chimed in, “Did something good happen?”

Paul nodded with a smile on his lips. “Yes, something good did happen. Miranda and I-”

Silas immediately cut in, “Oh, I know! You two haven’t had a meal together in ages, so you’re going to treat all of us, right?”

Paul tried once more. “What I was saying earlier, Miranda and I-”

“You don’t need to say it! We already know. Miranda’s been so busy after setting up her own lab and hasn’t had time to meet with anyone. Now that she’s finally free to visit us, it definitely calls for a meal!

Silas interrupted again.

Speechless, Paul rolled his eyes. He was so tempted to call the police on Silas right now!

Silas scoffed inwardly.

Did Paul plan on announcing their relationship officially? Showing off a public display of affection?

Not on his watch!
