The Billionaire's Mistake (Anya and Daniel)

MISTAKE 59

Chapter 59: Relying on him

With a heavy sigh, Anya reluctantly answered the call.

“Stanley,” she said, her voice taut with frustration.

“Anya, listen to me,” Stanley said, his voice not as gentle as she was used to; instead, ant unusual cold emitted from every word. “If you leave right now, the image online is over. Your bustling career will be dead before you can close your eyes to rest.”

Anya’s grip on the phone tightened, her jaw clenched in anger. “You, a small president of some unknown game company, dare threaten me? Who gave you this courage?” She shot back, her voice laced with scorn. “You tried to deceive me, and now you expect me to be lenient? I must have been so nice to my schoolmate that he thinks we are friends.”

Stanley’s voice wavered slightly; he seemed almost amused when he spoke. “Just… just check. the opinions of the netizens online before you make any decisions,” he urged. “I want to see if you can keep a straight face after bluffing with your ex–husband’s name.” He said and hung

Before Anya could respond, he ended the call. Her anger was boiling over. She leaned back in her seat, her mind reeling with a clash of emotions. With slightly trembling hands, she opened her phone and navigated to the social media platforms where the topic was trending.

But as she scrolled through the comments and messages, her heart sank like a stone. The once adoring fans had turned against her, their words dripping with venom and contempt.

“I wondered why Anya never showed her face. It is because it was so ugly.”

“I can’t believe I followed you for so long and you were just a greedy person.

“Why did you agree to sign and have them set up all this press only to show your arrogant

face?”

“She even came with bodyguards. Someone miglit even think she is a star.

“How much money did they offer for her to turn against them? Maybe it was really low.”

“She is a famous artist; of course it is hard to employ her.”

Accusations of arrogance, betrayal, and cruelty filled the screen, each one a dagger aimed at her already wounded pride.

Tears welled up in Anya’s eyes as she read comment after comment, their condemnation threatening to crush her spirit. Her online image, which she had spent so long building, now lay shattered and ridden with the spit of people she barely knew.

Feeling defeated and overwhelmed, Anya closed her phone and sank back into her seat, the world seeming too heavy for her small shoulders. By the time her car pulled up in front of her home, she felt utterly exhausted, both physically and emotionally.

As she stepped out of the car, she was met by Daniel waiting in the kitchen, his expression one of concern and empathy. Anya looked up at him, her eyes filled with tears, feeling utterly

defeated.

Daniel walked over the moment she stepped into the living room, pulled her to him, and wrapped her in a comforting embrace. He wanted to kiss her cheeks, but he restrained himself,

knowing that she needed space to process her emotions. Instead, he pulled out a chair for her to sit down before offering her a drink.

Anya sank into the chair; her shoulders slumped with exhaustion. She picked the cool orange juice he had offered and took a long sip. She felt completely broken. She had trusted and fallen.

“Look at me; I will fix this,” he said, and she nodded.

“I will definitely crush them to dust,” he declared, and she nodded. For some reason, she believed him. She was angry and wanted someone to vent for her. She was not sure what came over her, but she suddenly felt the need to cry. So she did just that. She wailed like a child. The sound of her crying broke Daniel’s heart. He wanted to crush everyone that participated in what happened to her.

Daniel watched Anya with concern etched into every line of his face as she sat at the kitchen table, her eyes downcast and her shoulders slumped in defeat. He couldn’t bear to see her like this, so broken and defeated. Taking a deep breath, he pulled out the chair opposite her and sat down, determined to offer her whatever comfort and support he could.

“Anya,” he began gently, reaching out to take her hand in his. “Is it about the talk online? Don’t worry, I will deal with it. Don’t cry, okay?”

Anya looked up at him, her eyes filled with tears as she recounted the events of the day.” There was press at the signing.” She did not know what came over her as she started complaining to him. “And now people are cursing me online. They’re saying terrible things, Daniel. You can’t let them go. They said I am greedy and arrogant.”

Daniel’s heart ached at the sight of Anya’s distress. “Anya, don’t cry. I will make it go away. How can they call you arrogant? How can they call you greedy? What is the use of that small company’s money? What do they know?” he consoled. The more he consoled her, the more

she cried.

“Listen to me, Anya,” he said firmly, his voice filled with determination. “I promise you, we will fix this. I won’t let any one of them get away with this.” Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.

Anya looked at him with a mixture of gratitude and defiance. “You better!” she said, her voice trembling as she spoke.

“You better or you will really spend your money till you go bankrupt,” she threatened.

“Sure, I won’t let them go.”

“You have promised you can’t go back on it,” she insisted.

Looking at her pitiful form, Daniel resisted the urge to plant a kiss between her brows.

Before Daniel could respond, his phone rang, interrupting their conversation. He glanced at the caller ID and saw that it was Neil, his brow furrowing with concern. “I’ll be right back, Anya,” he said, rising from his seat to take the call.

As he stepped away to answer the phone, Anya watched him with a sense of trepidation. She knew that whatever news Neil had to share couldn’t be good, and she braced herself for the

worst.

“What is it?” he asked Neil.

“Your wife’s home address was just leaked,” Neil informed him.

“Who was it?” Daniel asked dangerously. They dared leak her address? This was no more fraud; this was a danger to her safety. Who would dare? He looked back at Anya, seated and watching him with big, scared eyes, and felt pain. Why were they attacking his wife? He took in a deep breath to calm himself.

“I am looking into it. When I know, I will pass it on,” Neil said.

“Thank you,” Daniel thanked him earnestly.

After a few moments, Daniel returned to the table, his expression grave. “Anya,” he said, his voice heavy with concern, “Neil just called. He said that our address has been spread online.”

Anya’s eyes widened in horror, her heart pounding in her chest. “My address?” she repeated, her voice suddenly loud and sharp.

Daniel nodded, his jaw set with determination. “Yes,” he confirmed. “We need to get you out of here now.”

Anya felt a surge of panic rising within her, but she knew that Daniel was right. She couldn’t stay here, not with her safety and privacy compromised. “But where will we go?” she asked, her voice trembling with fear.

Daniel took her hand in his, his grip firm and reassuring. “Back to New York City,” he said, his voice unwavering. “It’s the safest place for you right now.”

“But…” she started to say. This city was the one she escaped with all her might. She was not sure she wanted to return and was holding the hand of the man that made her escape the city in the first place.
