MISTAKE 58
Chapter 58: Confrontation
Finally, as they reached the lobby, Stanley caught up with her, his hand reaching out to grasp her arm, only to be blocked by bodyguards Daniel had prepared for her that morning
Seeing the heavily built men, he stepped back. “Anya, please,” he pleaded, his voice filled with desperation. “You can’t leave like this. We need to talk.”
Anya turned to face him, her eyes blazing with fury, Talk?” she spat, her voice dripping with contempt. “What is there to talk about, Stanley? You tried to deceive me with this fraudulent contract? You still have the face to ask me to talk?” She looked at him no differently than one would look at a cockroach.
Stanley opened the document in his hand and scrolled a bit. His eyes landed on the clause and he looked back at Mr. Hanson, Anya’s lawyer, at the corner..
Stanley’s expression faltered, a flicker of realization crossing his features before he quickly masked it with a forced smile. “Anya, I assure you, there must be some misunderstanding,” he insisted, his tone oozing with sincerity.
“Don’t bother; I understand enough for myself. Did you invite all these media to force me to sign?” Anya asked. Stanley looked around at the unending cameras. He had only invited three companies, but it looked like the entire city was here. He took a death breath to calm himself. He could not allow the narrative to be taken out of context without fighting back.
“Is it because we did not offer enough money?” He asked loudly, and Anya noticed people. recording. So, he was trying to paint her as greedy.
She scoffed at this, a light smile adorning her face. “Who is interested in your small money? Even if you paid a hundred million, it would not even come close to money on the secondary card confiscated from my husband yesterday,” Anya lied through her teeth. She had never taken any cards from Daniel. But since they are lying, she would not be undone. Since he wanted to throw her under the bus, she was going to play too.
Chapter 50 Confrontation
“I decided to help you out as an old friend, and because the author of the book is your girlfriend and, according to you, my fan. And her uncle is my lawyer, but you dare put a fraudulent clause to transfer the copyright of my work to your girlfriend?” Anya tied them together as scammers. Even if Stanley could spin any narrative in the press, she was sure there would be someone who would release the video.
Autumn noticed Stanley’s panic and decided to add pressure on Anya to help Stanley a bit.
“Miss Anya, please talk to us; we can add those conditions you wanted.” Autumn suddenly produced tears.
But Anya looked over at the three of them with disgust. “I have nothing to discuss with your girlfriend, Stanley. The way she is crying, someone may think that I came to steal her man, she declared, her voice ringing with scorn. “You better go back and get a lawyer. You dare try to mess with me. If my husband can’t even burn to dust, you little vultures, he should sit home and wait for a divorce.”
At Anya’s words, her guards stepped forward, forming a protective barrier around her. The press and fans watched on in confusion, their murmurs growing louder with each passing
moment.
Anya turned to her lawyer, Mr. Hanson, who had been waiting nearby. “Mr. Hanson, As you had the audacity to mess with me and help your niece and her boyfriend commit fraud, you better carry that audacity with you forever, straight as your mustache, when I dismantle that little legal practice of yours,” she said, her voice firm and full of scorn.
Mr. Hanson’s expression turned grave at her words. “I assure you, this is a misunderstanding, Ms. Anya,” he replied, his voice filled as neutral as he could muster. “Are you sure you are well, Ms. Anya? Have you forgotten your husband and yourself are divorced?”
“Very funny. I just ran away from home, and you are all confident. It doesn’t matter; my artwork is a joint martial asset, so my husband will be suing you on our behalf. You can go and convince him then that we are not married,” she scoffed, as though she had just heard the most ridiculous story.
With that, Anya turned on her heel and made her way towards the exit, her guards falling into step behind her. The press and fans protested, their voices rising in a cacophony of confusion and disbelief. Flashing lights from cameras illuminated the already sunlit lobby as Anya disappeared into the waiting car.
As the car pulled away from the hotel, Anya couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction wash over her. They dare play her and still want to act in a movie. She could act, too. Even if people did not fully believe her, their story would never be viewed straight.
Unbeknownst to her, the video of her confrontation had reached the hands that mattered the most: Daniel and his family. When Daniel watched her use him to lie, a slow smile made its way up his face. He did not even have the time to revel in the fact that she had claimed to be married to him in public when his phone rang. It was his father this time.
When he picked up the call, he was asked. One question, “Anya remarried?”
“Yes,” he answered, and his mother’s voice tore into his ear.
“You useless son! You actually let Anya get remarried? What were you doing this past week? You lost your wife to some random person,” his mother scolded.
“You must have seen the video, then. But why would you translate what she said that way? Am
I so incapable in your eyes? She remarried me,” Daniel said with a sigh. He felt he had reclaimed some dignity before his family. Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
“Really?” His mother asked, “When did you get remarried?”
“Yesterday,” he answered. At this
Rodney took the phone.
“Have you thought it through?” Rodney asked.
“Yes,” he answered.
“Good. Bring her home,” Rodney instructed and ended the call before he could protest. He was not sure Anya would be willing to go home with him.
He had not even had the time to rest when James’s call came in.
“You
are married again?” James asked the moment he answered the call.
“Yes, it happened yesterday,” he answered.
“When you left?” James asked.
“Before I came back to the hotel,”
“Ethan showed me the video. What is going on? Why didn’t you tell me?” James asked.
“You and the rest are in cars with my mother. How can I tell you?” Daniel scoffed.
“It’s not so. Your mother placed a spy in Hunter’s home, office, bar, you name it. Every time I called to tell them about you, they relayed the information to her. Daniel, your mother is too scary,” he said.
“I know.”
“What happened? Why is Anya trending? I saw some videos, then it started getting
suppressed. Suddenly, the only narrative is that she is greedy. What is going on?” James asked, and Daniel proceeded to tell him about what he found.
“Even if you did not like her, who would actually try to provoke the Shaw family? Are you sure you are not the target?” James asked.
“I am looking into it,” Daniel answered. He had long considered that they were coming for him and not Anya. But if this were true, then whoever they are, they have crossed the line.
“She is being dragged online. You should make sure she is fine,” James said. “If I hear something about why this could be happening, I will let you know.”
As Anya sat in the back seat of her car, the weight of the recent events pressed heavily upon her. Her phone buzzed, and she glanced at the screen to see Stanley’s name flashing in bold
letters.
