The Billionaire's Mistake (Anya and Daniel)

MISTAKE 115

Chapter 115: Conspiracies

Daniel returned back to the city to Anya’s side in the hospital and was acting as though she was an egg that would break. She quite enjoyed seeing him this way.

After a while, her mind went to those who had drugged her. She knew Daniel’s temper. He was never going to let those who drugged her go. For some reason, she was more assured of his stance when it came to her well–being.

“What happened to them?” Anya asked.

Daniel paused for a moment while peeling an apple for her. For some reason, he knew who she was referring to.

“Well, there was an incident,” he said.

“Did you cause the incident?” she asked, and he paused.

“Well, technically, my father did. But we now know who the head of the Dark Hand is. The one who wants what’s in your safe the most,” he said.

“Who?” She asked.

“The president of what?” she asked, not quite grasping his meaning.

“The president of the country,” he elaborated, and she blinked in disbelief.

“Whose country?” she asked suddenly.

“Our country,” Daniel seemed slightly amused. He could understand her confusion. It was a

shock even for him.

“The president? Then…my father…” She started to say, but he nodded.

“Your father probably found something that could expose this. I am guessing that whatever your father found can topple him,” he said, and she took a deep breath to settle. Then the next second, she recalled the safe.

“The safe… we need to get our hands on whatever it is,” she started to say, sitting up straight. Daniel could tell the conversation was exciting her a little too much.

“Calm down, baby,” he said, handing her a cup of water to take a sip first before he continued.

“I went there; someone already got to it,” he said, and she paused.

“Who?” she asked, sitting up straight.

For this answer, Daniel hesitated.

“Your mother,” he answered, and Anya looked as though he had said the earth was flat.

“Who?” she asked incredulously.

“Someone is pretending to be your mother. But she gained access to your father’s safe…”

Mother? My mother?” Anya asked, sitting up.

“So she says,” Daniel answered.

“How? Is she really?” Anya said with a deep frown.

“I will find out more, but… If it is her, what do you want to do?” Daniel asked. He was suspicious that the woman was not really Anya’s mother. But she really pulled out a marriage certificate.

There was a story there that Anya did not know.

The beeping sound of the hospital monitor was all that could be heard at this moment as Anya considered his words.

If this woman was really her mother, then why had she not come to see her?

“It is not her. My mother would not abandon me if she approached us. We play dumb till we get what we want,” was all Anya answered, and Daniel nodded. He did not want to push her, and honestly, he thought it was possible this woman was not his mother–in–law. He had seen the surveillance. She looked similar, but was not the same perso

“But…” Anya suddenly grabbed his arm.

“What about the contents of the safe? I still need to meet her for that,” she said.

“Don’t worry. There is no need to meet her to retrieve it. There are many ways to get it back,” he said, and she sighed and nodded.

The days after that, Anya was discharged and could return to the Rose mansion.

But when she returned to the mansion, she soon found that she was closely monitored.

She brought this up to Daniel, who had been busy for the past few days, and he said she was another allowed to leave the house.

She was livin.

Back at the Shaw ancestral home, Daniel returned home to a standoff between his brothers and Justin.

“Kneel!” Ray ordered Justin, who asked what he did. This only infuriated the old man more.

Seeing this, Daniel sighed. It was clear his father had not yet told the rest that Justin was not a spy but was working for him.

“You did not say anything?” Daniel asked his father, Christopher.

The older man shrugged as he said, “You two were busy playing double agent, not caring about the family but still want my help.” Christopher asked.

“Double agent? What double agent?” Ray asked.

“Justin was working for Daniel; he infiltrated the Dark Hand on his orders,” Wendy said as she walked out with a tray of drinks.

You could tell she was tired of the entire charade She shot Christopher a look of warning, and he took his drink and had a sip quietly.

“You were working for Daniel?” Ray asked Justin

“Really, grandpa!” Justin insisted.

“You sure are brave. I had already prepared the dark guard to capture you back,” Ray said.

“You wouldn’t have caught him; Daniel blocked the orders,” Christopher added fuel to the old man’s anger.

“What?” Ray exploded.

“The president is the Leader of the Dark Hand,” Daniel announced, silencing the room. The old man’s anger disappeared quickly.

“President? President of what?” Daniel’s two brothers spoke at once.

“Of our country,” Justin answered.

“Are you sure?” Ray asked.

“Yes,” Justin answered, “I saw him myself.” Justin glanced at Daniel before addressing the rest of them.

“He said killing Helen had nothing to do with our family. Helen was in contact with Anya’s father. Helen was the daughter of the president’s political enemy, so Anya’s father intended to pass what he had on the president to his enemy through her. The president got wind of it and had her and Anya’s father killed,” Justin said to the silent room.

“That means that whatever he had on the president is concrete,” Ray said.

“Everything is starting to add up. The organization took possession of Anya because they caught wind of it and they were enemies of the Dark Hand. I don’t think they knew who the leader was. But the Dark Hand was afraid of that information getting out. That meant the organization surely wanted to know what it was. So they raised Anya. They killed her father first and then came for Helen a few years later after she had married me,” Daniel said.

“Then, why would the organization let Anya come over to your side?” Wendy asked.

“Anya’s friend orchestrated it. She knew the Dark Hand was going to swallow the organization and had a hand in sending Anya to me in time,” Daniel answered.

“Everything is almost clear,” Christopher said. To his words, Daniel nodded.

“Yes, everything but who my late father–in–law was to have gotten his hands on such information,” Daniel said.

Anya remained confined within the walls of the Shaw family estate. At first, when Daniel had imposed the rule forbidding her from leaving the house, Anya dismissed it as a joke.

But it seems he was really serious, and Anya found herself trapped within the confines of the

mansion.

She was in utter disbelief. Was he going crazy? She could not even go out to the front yard.

She had tried to be defiant, trying to slip out of the house under the excuse of going shopping. But the butlers had the entrances locked tight. NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.

It was this way every day, and Daniel was gone a lot. Even the maids had more freedom than

she did.

A day ago, she had gone over to Emma’s place and basically helped Henry pack for the study trip to France with his friends.

It was then that Anya realized that Daniel was not joking and that he was serious about keeping her to the mansion until she was fully healed.

Fully healed? What kind of excuse was that? She was fine.
