The Billionaire's Mistake (Anya and Daniel)

MISTAKE 110

Chapter 110: Selene comes to apologize

“Hazel, that is your sister!” Greta shouted as Nina’s mother rushed over to help her daughter.

“Please be careful what wild animal you attach my name to. You are the one who decided that these human experiments are your family and I am not. What does it have to do with me if your company falls? I have no shares, and even if you die, you will not leave anything for me. And you dare ask me to give up my future and marry a random man for you?!” Her eyes reddened as she spat her words.

“Andrew, are you okay?” Andrew’s mother hurried over to help her son.

When she saw how much pain he was in and the blood leaking from his nose. She was enraged.

She jumped up so fast to attack Hazel; she resembled a toad for a moment there. Hazel only stepped out of the way and she fell.

Hazel stared at them all and lost interest.

Just then, her mother rushed in.

Shaina looked at the chaos and then at her daughter and pulled her daughter behind her.

“Look at the daughter you raised!” Greta screamed.

“So what? The family is trouble, so you can sell my daughter?” Shaina scolded her mother in

law.

“What do you know? Do you want the family to fall? This is her chance to be useful!” Greta

insisted.

“Didn’t you always say we have no use? Didn’t you used to look down on me because I had been married before? Fine. My first child has married well; I want to see if you can touch me.” Shaina declared, and everyone paused.

“First Child? What first child?” Hazel was the one to ask.

Back in Umbrella City, Selene knees trembled as she crossed the opulent marble foyer of the Shaw family estate, hands wringing nervously.

She half–expected a squad of Stone–faced bodyguards to appear at any moment and unceremoniously frog–march her off the premises. Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.

Instead, it was the unsmiling figure of Daniel’s mother, Wendy, that materialized from inside the house. Wendy looked coldly at the girl before her.

Her critical gaze swept over Selene in an instant, sizing up the wilted young woman before narrowing into a scowl of palpable disdain.

“Why are you here?” Wendy asked.

“Please, whatever I did, there is no reason to get his far, right? Whatever it is the Shaw family wants us to pay, we will,” Selene said through her teeth.

“Your father sold Anya’s years to mercenaries, and now she is in a coma. Tell me, how do you intend to pay for it?” Wendy ranked, and Selene lost her voice.

Of all the things she imagined family must have done, this was not it.

“You have a startling amount of audacity to show your face here after all the harm your family has inflicted on mine,” Wendy said coldly, her soft but regal drawl laced with very noticeable

anger.

Selene swallowed hard, forcing herself to meet the older woman’s penetrating stare “LI know there’s no excuse for what my father did, putting Anya’s life in jeopardy like that. I don’t expect forgiveness or any sort of mercy.”

She clasped her hands together, twisting them as her voice took on a pleading quality. “I’ve only come to beg for your family to spare mine No matter how much we may deserve it, we have been close for years.

“Let us go bankrupt and destitute; leave us as beggars on the street. Just… My father

committed the sin, not my mother or the others. There is no need for the entire family to fall like this.”

Wendy’s expression twisted into a condescending sneer as she regarded Selene with blatant disgust.

This girl was in love with her son. She had always known this. But was she the only one? Many women liked her son. As long as they did not cross the line, she would act as though they did not exist.

“I am not sure if you are stupid or just full of arrogance. Where are you getting so much audacity from?” she spat, causing Selene to recoil as if struck. “You said we have been close for years? Are you stupid? Let us forget if that is even true. Even if it was, did you truly think begging and sniveling would make up for the harm inflicted on Anya?”

Her anger flared momentarily at the mention of her daughter–in–law’s name, a flash of anger clouding her blank face.

She stared down at Selene fiercely.

It was as though she wanted to cut her in two.

“My son’s wife remains in a coma, her life clinging by a thread, all because your vile, dirty father sold private details about her to the highest bidder. Daniel is determined to have all of

you crushed to dust. I have not even started cheering for him, and you wish me to let you go! Are you dreaming?” Wendy asked.

Selene’s knees threatened to buckle completely at the revelation, bile rising in her throat.

Wendy may look soft and petite, but she was also a Shaw.

To a matriarch whose sole purpose in life was to protect her family’s legacy, there could be no mercy shown to those who harmed them.

Selene felt like she was losing her mind. Wasn’t it just some nanny? She had stayed with this family so long, been so devoted, yet they threw her and her family away so quickly?

On a surface level, she understood their anger and their response. They were a great family and would not tolerate others stepping on them. But she was still angry. Why were. They doing this to her?

Was her father really going to die? They had taken him away. She was not stupid. Even though he was in jail, the Shaw family could still get to him.

Sensing the realization dawning across Selene’s face, Wendy allowed a hint of dark satisfaction to curl at the corners of her mouth.

“If you let my family go, I will stay away from Daniel from now henceforth,” Selene begged. Wendy looked as though she had heard the biggest rubbish to have ever left the human mouth.

“If you have even a shred of dignity lingering in that foolish, entitled head of yours, you’ll be wise to turn around and escape from this place,” she said.

Was this girl crazy? If she lets her go, she will stay away? Even if she did not let her go, she could not approach Daniel.

“Do you think you are a goddess or something? My son’s patience for you has been used up. If you feel you wish to test your luck, be my guest.

Selene opened her mouth to offer another desperate plea, but the words died stillborn. She met Ray’s cold gaze by the staircase.

His eyes were so dark at this point that all the words she had prepared died in her throat.

Ray had only heard a bit of talking and had walked down and stood at the base of the staircase, holding his walking stick in all his ruthless, imposing glory.

His cold gaze drilled down into Selene like a knife, wishing to cut her into two. Those eyes had always looked at her with indifference. But this time, she knew if she made a wrong move, she

would die.

Wendy didn’t her father–in–law a glance.

even!

“If you foolishly believe Daniel will take your friendship into consideration, you must have forgotten that you have betrayed him before.” Wendy’s voice chilled Selene.

They knew. They all knew she had left Anya in that underground prison a long time ago, despite Daniel ordering her to let Anya out.

Selene trembled slightly.

“But if you are feeling lucky, then by all means, child… go and test your luck with my son. himself.” Wendy said and walked into the house.
