MISTAKE 106
Chapter 106: Plans.
In the living room, Cecile watched as Melanie remained unconscious till the state come
She did not even bother to move to help them. And as the medics placed Melade to the ambulance, she did not care. She watched as her son jumped into the annexe with Valmie and frowned.
She knew that her son had a soft spot for Melanie because of what happened in the past, bur
she felt it was too much.
Now that she thought about it, her former daughter–in–law, though the could not help Charles in his business, was at least a good wife and did not fight with her a lot, sometimes even letting her save face.
She knew Melanie’s character well. The moment she entered the house, she would monopolize her son and make sure herself the victim. Compared to her former daughter–in–law, if the fought Melanie, she would lose.
She had only entertained Melanie being around because she was useful in keeping Emme at bay. She admitted that she liked the look of hurt on Emma’s face when she did this
But now that Emma was gone, what was she going to do about Melanie?
Emma walked out of the room with four large boxes and rolled them towards the front door without saying a word to her. This infuriated Cecile greatly.
“You better not regret it and come back,” Cecile said. “If we ever meet outside, you better not
act like we are related.”
Emma did not bother to respond. She left this hell hole to never return.
On the other side of the city, Daniel walked into her room to find Anya reading; he slid into bed with her and pulled her into his arms.
“Did you ever once live with a charity organization?” he asked, and Anya looked away from her book.
“Yes, after my father died, my mother got her diagnosis. They offered to take me in,” she answered.
“That is why you disappeared,” Daniel said.
“Disappeared?” she asked.
“Do you remember why my grandfather insisted that I marry you?” he asked.
“Because I looked like Selene?”
Anya did not like talking about this. Daniel could tell from her tone.
“Because you are Selene. She was pretending to be you,” he said, and Anya turned around to face him. She was utterly confused.
“When I was a child, I used to play with a girl. She did not like her name. She called herself Selene. That girl was you,” he explained.
“Me?”
“Selene found out and changed her name. Changed her face to look just like you. You had suddenly disappeared, and she returned as you,” he said. His words explained a lot, especially

Daniel felt her question was dangerous. He carefully answered, “1o. 1 fell in love with an eye who called herself Selene and still fell in love with her again as Anye. It has always been you. It will always be you,” he said.
“What have you found on my father?” Anys asked, changing the topic.
Daniel did not want to push her.
“A friend of yours from the organization is still there, and I have a feeling they have a hand in your family mystery. I am negotiating for her to come to our side. Maybe you recall her. Mercy,” he said, and a face flashed in Anya’s mind.
“Will
she?” she asked.
“I keep feeling this matter is bigger than it looks. So, I have sent my cousin to infiltrate the organization that tried to have you abducted,” he said.
“Would it even work?” she asked.
“Don’t worry, it has. He found out about a safe deposit box of your father’s that the dark hand is trying to access. You, as his daughter, can access it. I will go as your husband,” he said.
“So, you are traveling again?” She asked, and he dropped a kiss on her forehead.
“While I am gone, I want you to play a game for me,” he said, and she raised a brow
“What game?”
“Pretend to be sick and get hospitalized,” he said
“Sick? Why?”
“I have a feeling the government may also be involved in this. The bank your father’s safe is in is a bank specifically used by the Mafia It’s policies are strict. The govemment has been trying to gain access to that bank for a while. I would have been less suspicious if they were also clamming down on other banks owned by shady familles, but they have their eye on that one,” Daniel explained.
“So, you think they want the safe?”
“That agent friend Lena introduced you to, whose brother is on the same team trying to gain access,” he said. Anya quickly understood.
There was no way what happened on the cruise was an isolated incident. That means from the beginning, she was the target.
“So I just pretend to be sick?” she asked.
“I will move you to a hospital, and Mother will come take care of you. I will have Jason stand watch with men. Then I will release information to lure them. This will put us at a disadvantage, and if the government is in on this, they will try to take you,” he said.
Everything was set up very quickly. Anya was moved to a hospital while Daniel traveled away.
In a dark room two cities away, Tony glanced at his watch for the hundredth time, his leg bouncing nervously against the car’s floorboard. It had been well over a few days since Mathias had gone up to the roof, and there was still no sign of him.

“Come on, boss,” Tony muttered under his breath. “Where are you?”
He tried Mathias’s cell again, but it went straight to voicemail. The knot in Tony’s stomach tightened. Something was very wrong.
Finally, unable to bear the tension any longer, Tony made a decision. He had to report this. Opening the car door, he cast one last glance at the towering building before walking away, his hand already reaching for his secure phone.
As he walked, he dialed a number he hoped he’d never have to use. It rang twice before a gruff voice answered.
“This better be important.”
Tony swallowed hard. “Sir, it’s Tony. We… we have a situation.”
“Speak plainly, boy. What’s happened?”
“It’s Mathias, sir. He’s been taken.”
There was a sharp intake of breath on the other end of the line. “Taken? By whom?”
“Daniel Shaw, sir. He ambushed us at the docks, then his men brought Mathias to some skyscraper downtown. Mathias went up to meet him, and… he never came back down.”
Π
A string of colorful curses filled Tony’s ear. “Are you certain it was Shaw?”
“Yes, sir. Mathias confirmed it himself before he went up.
“This is bad, Tony. Very bad. Where are you now?
Tony glanced around, realizing he’d wandered into a dimly lit alley. “I’m a few blocks from the building, sir. I didn’t want to risk staying in the car any longer.”
“Good thinking. Listen carefully now. I need you to.”
The rest of the sentence was cut off by a deafening bang Tony felt a sharp, burning pain in his back. The phone clattered to the ground as he fell forward, his vision already starting to dim.
The last thing Tony saw was a pair of polished shoes stepping into view. A hand reached down to pick up the fallen phone.
Jerry looked at the phone in his hand and passed it to one of the men with a nod, and the man took it away.
Jerry made sure to deal with Tony only when he had passed over the information. Now he was sure that no matter what, the Dark Hand would think he had taken Mathias. They would not guess where Daniel is.
The line went dead as Tony’s world faded to black
