Chapter 296 The Only Man She Ever Loved
Elijah could sense that Freya would make a move. But as soon as he spoke, Freya somehow managed to break free from the people restraining her and ran towards the riverbank. Elijah’s expression instantly changed, and he chased after her like a gust of wind.
Elijah grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards him, embracing her tightly, and whispered, “Stop, don’t do this…”
Despair filled Freya’s eyes as she shook her head at him. “I don’t want you to be threatened because of me.”
When Elijah said that all his kindness towards her was only because they had a child together, she felt hopeless. She didn’t want Elijah to be threatened because of her. This would be the last thing she could do for him. After all, this man had entered her heart. He was the only man she ever loved.
Thorne Silverton saw them together and thought of his deceased mother and disabled father. Without hesitation, he pressed the detonator in his hand, intending to blow up Elijah and Freya together.
Freya noticed Thorne’s motives. She bit down hard on Elijah’s arm. Elijah winced, loosening his grip slightly. Freya took the opportunity to push him away. “Save Kai…”
With those words, she jumped into the river, followed immediately by a deafening explosion. Although Elijah was pushed away, he was still close enough to be hit by the shockwave of the bomb, knocking him down on the riverbank.
The flames illuminated half the sky. The smell of gunpowder filled the air. Water splashed everywhere, wetting the riverbank. At that moment, the people hiding in the car rushed over. Elijah hadn’t come alone; he deliberately brought the car to hide people. Those individuals held tranquilizer guns, and whenever they had the chance, they would shoot at Thorne and his men. They just hadn’t found the right opportunity yet, resulting in this situation.
Thorne drew a steel knife from his subordinate’s clothes and walked towards Elijah, wanting to make sure if he was dead or not, and finish him off if he was still alive. However, before he could take a few steps, he was accurately shot with a tranquilizer in the neck and he immediately fell unconscious.
Thorne’s men were taken down one by one. A
“Quickly, head down to the river. We must find Mrs Silverton…”

Hospital.
Elijah woke up from unconsciousness. He remembered the last scene he saw before passing out and immediately asked, “Where is she?”
“She’s in surgery.” Evan had already arrived at the hospital to calm him down and said, “Kai and Elowen have been safely rescued, Xander is taking care of them, don’t worry.”
Elijah gave him a cold, stern look. Evan immediately lowered his head.
“Take me to her.” Elijah stood up and strode towards the door. As he walked, he whispered, “Is she badly injured?”
Evan kept his head low. He couldn’t speak. By the time he saw Freya, she was in a terrible state, and he didn’t know if she would survive.
“Speak!” Elijah turned to look at Evan, his voice demanding.
Evan still didn’t dare to lift his head, and spoke softly, “She’s seriously injured… When I saw her, she was already pulled out of the water, covered in blood, and her face… it’s badly burned, almost unrecognizable…”
Elijah’s footsteps halted, and he turned to face Evan. “What did you say?”
Evan didn’t dare to meet his gaze, speaking in a low voice, “The injuries are very severe…”This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
Elijah’s hand trembled, his fingertips slowly curling and forming a fist. He exerted too much force, causing his knuckles to turn white, and the veins to bulge, making a cracking sound.
“The doctors are doing everything they can to save her. There might still be a slim chance.” Evan continued speaking with his head lowered.
“Which… operating room?” Elijah struggled to keep himself calm, his voice involuntarily trembling. He paused for a moment and finally finished the sentence.
“Room one, the best doctor in the hospital.” Evan said.
Elijah walked towards the operating room, his steps seemingly steady but in reality, they were chaotic. When he reached the door, the indicator light for the operating room was still on.
It meant that the surgery was still ongoing.
Time passed slowly. Elijah felt the urge to rush into the operating room several times, but Evan stopped him, persuading, “You’ll disrupt the doctors and really take her life.”
He might have burst into the operating room if he lost control.
Elijah felt a suffocating tightness in his chest, as if he couldn’t breathe properly. He took deep breaths, trying to prevent himself from suffocating. In his mind, he recalled Freya’s desperate gaze, clearly misunderstanding his words. That was why she pushed him away and jumped into the river with a determination to die.
Suddenly, the indicator light for the operating room changed from green to red, and the door slid open. Elijah stepped forward quickly, but his throat was so hoarse that he couldn’t speak.
With great difficulty, he squeezed out words from his throat, “–Is she okay?”
