Chapter 306 Winner of the Bet
Kiran’s words possessed an undeniable charm to the present Sierra. They were akin to a life ring tossed at a drowning person or a scrumptious meal in front of a starving beggar.
Sierra stared at Kiran unblinkingly at that moment. He was very confident that his words. could entice the woman before him, so he sat there quietly, waiting for his prey to walk into his trap.
A long time had passed before Sierra finally opened her mouth to answer him. “What do you want?”
She could not turn down the enticing condition that Kiran had offered.
There was no reason for her to turn it down as well.
Sierra knew she was spiraling down into madness because of Lewis. He would have been hers a long ago if it wasn’t for that mute standing between them.
Now, all she saw were memories she shared with Lewis whenever she closed her
eyes.
They loved each other so much. Their love was always envied by those around them. Everyone thought that she was Lewis’ one and only partner.
Had Sierra not witnessed the merciless look Lewis wore on his face back in the suite, she would have thought the same thing right now.
She thought, “That mute must be behind all this! Lewis and I would have married and had kids long ago if it weren’t for her!”
Just as the woman was still immersed in her thoughts, Kiran’s voice pulled her senses back to
reality. “It’s very simple.”
He fished out a black pin the size of a bean from his pocket. It looked exactly like a button. After placing it on the table, the man said to Sierra, “Find a way to make him wear this all the
time.”
Stunned, she turned to look at the pin on the table. She was no fool. Naturally, she could. recognize what it was right away.
“Is that a bug?”
Instead of answering her, Kiran drew to his feet. “Just think it through, Miss Woods. I’ll be waiting for your answer.”
After that, he added politely, “Rest well, Miss Woods. I’ll visit you next time.”
Kiran left the ward soon enough. Sierra’s gaze was still fixed on the pin on the table, her eyes. already sparkling.
It was easy to hide it in Lewis’ surroundings, but making him wear that pin was difficult.
After all, he would have to change into new clothes and go out every day. That was, unless he wore it around his neck. How was that possible?
It was no wonder Kiran would come looking for her.
Sierra sat up on her bed with great difficulty. She picked up the pin, feeling its smooth surface with her thumb. The chilly touch made her heartbeat accelerate for some reason.
She had spent the last few years not doing anything significant in her life, not to mention she didn’t pull off anything that could potentially harm Josephine. Now that she was about to take her first step in the
malicious direction and become Kiran’s partner-in-crime, it was
impossible for her not to feel nervous.
If the woman made the right move, she’d be the winner, but if she lost the bet-
Sierra didn’t dare to imagine the consequences.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps coming from a distance, prompting her to snap open her eyes. immediately. When she noticed the new visitor entering her ward, panic fleeted across her face, and she curled her fingers around the pin tightly.
“Lewis!”
The aforementioned man entered the ward, his gaze fixed on her face momentarily before he looked away. Then, he walked to the foot of the hospital bed and took a seat there.
Fortunately, Sierra’s face was already pale from the blood loss, so her fear and anxiety
remained undetected.
“How long have you been awake?” Lewis asked impassively. There was no trace of concern held for Sierra.
The latter tightened her grip around the pin while squeezing out a small smile. “I just woke up. I thought you’d never visit me.”
The man just looked at her coldly. The bright fluorescent light made his black shirt look vivid and eye- catching, especially when he formed a huge contrast to the white ward.
Lewis replied, “Some things need to be dealt with once and for all.”
Sierra felt her heart skipping a beat uneasily upon hearing that statement. “W-What do you mean?”
The man leaned back on his chair without answering her question. Instead, he asked, “How long has it been, Sierra?”
She could feel light pinpricks of pain coming from her heart as she answered weakly, “Once the holidays are over, we’d have been together for seven years.”
Lewis continued to gaze at her. He paused for two seconds before his voice rang again. “Seven years, huh? How much do you know about me?”
Sierra didn’t know why he asked her that question all of a sudden, but she still answered honestly, “I don’t know. I thought I knew you pretty well, but now, I don’t have the
confidence to say that I knew you at all.”
“Then, do you think I’m an idiot?”
The answer came to her tongue before she could even stop to think about it. “How could you. be an idiot? If you are, then everyone else is idiotic too!”
A small smirk was played on Lewis’ lips at that moment, but it wasn’t that obvious.
Sierra thought for a moment before asking, “Are you still breaking up with me, then?”
The man stood up right away. Then, he leaned closer to her. “Sierra, I told you before that I prefer it when you’re dumb. That’s why you should never play tricks on me.”
He used two fingers to tilt her chin domineeringly, his deep gaze pinned on her face. “Do you understand?”
Sierra’s eyes glittered animatedly. If anyone else were to call her stupid, she’d definitely get mad at them, but if Lewis was the one doing that, she hoped that she could become even dumber.
That way, he would love her more.
“Yes, I do. Can you please not break up with me, then?” The woman grabbed Lewis’ wrist, causing her sleeve to slide down in the process and revealing her bandaged wound
Lewis happened to catch sight of the wound from the corner of his eye. He released Sierra’s chin and stood up straight. “Rest well.”
Once he was done speaking, he turned on his heel and walked away without sparing her another glance.
Sierra could only stare at Lewis’ fading silhouette, a dazed look on her face. She still couldn’t understand what he meant. Did he still want to break up with her? Or did he decide to stay in the end?
Based on her understanding of him, typically speaking, if he never turned her down, then it was an automatic agreement.
That man was seriously a jerk. By not saying it out loud, he could conveniently avoid taking responsibility, and it would then be Sierra’s fault for assuming that he meant this or that way, seeing as he never said anything in the first place.
Naturally, Lewis was the best at manipulating people into assuming what he wanted.
Sierra’s grip tightened around the button. She could feel the hard pin digging into her palm and hurting her.
It was already nighttime.From NôvelDrama.Org.
Josephine woke up due to hunger. She opened her eyes blearily while rubbing her stomach.
Even though the lights in her room were on, the pale light illuminating the space still scared
her a lot.
She was afraid of being alone.
It was as though the entire world had abandoned her.
Josephine got out of bed in alarm and rushed to open the door without wearing any slippers. However, the moment she opened the door, all she saw was an unfamiliar sight.
Fear and panic washed over her senses in powerful waves, almost drowning her in an instant.
The young woman walked to the doorway and opened the suite door. Then, she left the suite.
She looked for Lewis everywhere because he was the only speck of familiarity to her. However, a strange sense of unfamiliarity extended for as far as she could see.
The young woman could only clutch the hems of her shirt, her bare feet standing on the icy floor. Tears started welling up in her eyes.
Meanwhile, Gerald had stationed his men to guard the lobby so that they could see Josephine. the moment she turned up.
Sometimes, he would also go to the lobby and watch over the area in case anything were to happen.
After all, the holidays were almost here. The plump man had already finished discussing the contract’s details with Seth, so he had nothing to do now. His next course of action was to come up with a plan once the holidays were over.
Just as Gerald was playing poker with his subordinates, clearly bored out of his mind, one of them suddenly poked him in the arm.
He turned around just to see Lewis returning from the outside.
Gerald ditched his cards immediately and jogged over to greet him. “Welcome back, Chairman Alvarez. Don’t worry. Miss Vance never came here.”
Lewis nodded in response while walking toward the elevator.
The other man followed him as though he was Lewis’ loyal subordinate, but-
Once they reached the suite and noticed the opened door, he could feel his smile fading away instantly.
