Chapter 309
Chapter 309
But now that Elio’s life was on the line, Clara couldn’t give a damn about Emmett’s potential wrath.
Clara grabbed her bag and bolted. She didn’t even make it to the front door before running into Ricardo. “Where are you off to in such a rush, Ms. Calloway?”
“I’ve got stuff to deal with. A friend of mine is sick; I’ve gotta go see him.”
Ricardo eyed her panicked expression, “Want me to tell Mr. Melendez? He knows a bunch of top-notch doctors, so he might be able to help.”
Clara knew what he was getting at. She hesitated for a moment, then blurted out to Ricardo, “It’s a guy friend I’m going to see. If you don’t want Mr. Melendez to blow a fuse, you better keep it to yourself!”
“A guy friend?”
“Don’t worry, I’m not gonna betray Mr. Melendez! But the guy once did me a favor, so I’ve gotta return his kindness!”
Ricardo was taken aback, obviously not anticipating such bluntness from Clara, leaving him stuck between a rock and a hard place.
But if Mr. Melendez finds out, I’m toast!”
“Relax. If you don’t tell him anything, he won’t know. Let’s keep this under wraps. I’ll be back as soon as I finish lending my friend a hand.”
“Alright then.”
Ricardo nodded; after all, Clara had made things pretty clear.
“If Mr. Melendez comes looking for me, you’ve gotta get a hold of me right away. I’ll be back ASAP! Can you smooth things over and buy me some time?”
“Alright…”
Clara hightailed it to Elio’s place in her car. But when she got there, she found the door locked.
She knocked, but no one answered, so she quickly dialed Elio’s number.
The phone just kept ringing, but no one picked up.
She could faintly hear a ringtone from inside.
So was Elio really home?
Clara pounded on the door, “Elio! Elio! Open up! Wake up, Elio!”
Just as she was about to call the police, the door opened.
Clara stood there, surprised, looking at Elio, who had just opened the door. He didn’t look like he had passed out.
“You called me… you said you were on your last legs.”
“That’s right! I’m at the end of my rope.” Elio grabbed her arm, “Clara, you’ve got to come with me today!”
“What are you talking about?” Clara instinctively backed away, feeling that something was off.
“I’m leaving, and you have to come with me!”
“Why? I’m married to Emmett; I can’t go with you. Elio, I know I owe you big time, but I can’t repay you like this.”
Elio held her hand tightly, “You don’t have a choice! You’re here now, and I can’t let you go.”
Clara struggled, trying to pull her hand free, “Elio, have you lost your marbles? Let go of me! I’m not going with you! I won’t!”
“Whether you like it or not, I’ve gotta do this!” Elio squinted, “I’m sorry, Clara. Whether you hate me or curse me, I don’t have a choice!”
Clara saw him pull out a cloth, covering her mouth and nose. Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
She wanted to say something, but suddenly everything went black, and she lost consciousness.
After several rounds of meetings, Emmett was wiped. Even though he had been sitting, his back and legs were killing him.
