Chapter 268 A Visit
Chapter 268 A Visit
Feeling overwhelmed and in need of rest, Frey drove to the nearest clinic to get her head wound treated. After enduring so much, this injury was just another minor setback.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
She reflected on the past and the debt she felt she owed Jacob. But after today's incident, she was ready to move forward.
Back at her apartment, Frey made a bowl of porridge and took a shower, preparing for her first day at the new company tomorrow.
She contemplated taking a few days off, considering the injury, but she didn't want to appear unreliable. It seemed ironic that, despite being the boss, she had to balance appearances.
Frey was lost in thought at her easel when a violent knock at the door jolted her. Rushing to answer it, she found Peyton standing there, looking worried and flushed from her illness.
"Are you okay? Your phone was off, and I was terrified!" Peyton exclaimed. "I heard you were beaten up, and there's a video of it online."
"Did the Rivera family do this? Why didn't Jacob stop his mother? Is she unwell?"
"The Rivera family is having a rough time, but that's not your fault. Jacob likes you but can't have you, and he's unable to defeat Nathaniel. Why should you be blamed? And why should you bear the brunt of their family's problems?"
Peyton continued, her frustration palpable. "When Nathaniel forcibly took you, he even got on a helicopter..."
"Peyton!" Frey interrupted sharply, her face showing strain. Although she had grown numb to humiliations in the past, it didn't mean she had forgotten them.
Peyton, trembling with anger, suddenly embraced Frey tightly, tears streaming down her face. "I'm so sorry for what they've done to you. You don't deserve this!"
"It's not your fault," she sobbed. "Why take it out on you? It's so unfair..."
Frey's heart warmed at Peyton's concern. She ushered her into the living room and they spent some time together. Sensing Frey needed solitude, Peyton eventually left with her bag.
Exhausted, Frey was about to clean up and prepare for bed when another knock came at the door. Only Peyton knew her address, not even Mandy had it.
Assuming Peyton had forgotten something, Frey opened the door, only to freeze in surprise. Standing there was Nathaniel, his imposing figure blocking the doorway like a wall.
Frey was taken aback. She hadn't expected him to find her address so quickly. It was clear he could find anything in Saeville unless he chose not to.
Nathaniel, not wanting to force his
way in, gripped the door frame and half-stepped into the apartment, clearly concerned she might slam the door shut. He didn't want to make things worse for Frey, even though they had already had their Conflicts.
Frey, reluctantly, stepped back to let him in. Nathaniel, after removing his shoes at the door, noticed there weren't any men's slippers and was momentarily stunned.
Could it be that Jacob had never been here? Or was it possible that no man had ever visited Frey in this apartment?
Nathaniel's heart raced with anxiety.
He had always been aware of Frey's meticulous nature.
Considering how she had secretly communicated with Jacob before, it seemed odd that she wouldn't have prepared for a man's presence if Jacob had ever visited her
veline
apartment. Even though Jacob was currently hospitalized, Frey would have prepared for it in advance, given her attentive character.
