Chapter 131 The Boiling Frog in Warm Water
It wasn't a question; it was an order.
Brendon always acted so domineeringly yet unreasonably - but she loved him wholeheartedly nonetheless.
"Do what needs to be done?"
Ranita's heart had already been twisted into knots long ago.
Brendon breathed heavily while staring at her with starry eyes filled with darkness, "You're still angry? Didn't I explain everything?"
"I'm not angry." She spoke in a chilly voice that sounded distant.
Brendon saw how puffy Rantia's cheeks had become and understood what was going through her mind; he grabbed onto Rantia's slender waist tightly before chuckling, "You say you're not angry?"
"I'm not!" Rantia denied firmly.
"You are!"
Her anger made Rantia feel suffocated; she glared at him furiously while shouting back, "Yes! Yes! You're right! What does it matter if I'm angry or not?! You promised me something then broke your word again - can't I be mad about that?"
The tears in Ranita's eyes were both sour and hot as they swirled around her eye sockets.
"Ranita... Shannon didn't mean to... don't hold it against her. Let me help you change your bandages."
Even now, Brendon was still thinking about Shannon.
Suddenly, Ranita realized how ridiculous she was being by getting angry and jealous with Brendon here. Some people could easily make her feel inferior without even trying.
Ranita suppressed her emotions and spoke coolly, "The medicine is in the drawer. You can change it yourself."
"Okay, you go sit down. I'll wash my hands." As Brendon went to wash his hands, he passed by the kitchen where he saw two clean sets of dishes next to the sink. He paused for a moment before continuing on his way.
Brendon immediately guessed that Dylan had been here not only because he had come but also because he had eaten with Ranita here.
He rubbed his fingers together a few times and pressed his lips together before going off to wash his hands in a bad mood.
"Dylan came over?" Brendon asked casually while wiping Ranita's wound with cotton swabs. "I told you not to get too close to him."
"Men and women alone will be misunderstood."
It was an old argument that went nowhere since neither of them could see their own problems clearly enough for resolution.
"Why are you angry?" Ranita looked up at Brendon hoping for some relief from this endless tug-of- war between them.
"We're not officially divorced yet," said the man calmly as he applied ointment onto her wound. "Any husband would be unhappy seeing their wife eating with another man."
Ranita felt another pang of pain in her heart at these words.
"After our divorce cooling-off period is over, will you regret it?" She asked tentatively causing Brendon's hand holding the cotton swab paused mid-air. His thick eyelashes fluttered open revealing cold black pupils shining like deep pools of ice water. NôvelDrama.Org owns all © content.
Ranita's heart trembled slightly at this sight.
She wanted so badly for there still be some kind of romantic feelings between them but asking made her extremely afraid.
This constant anxiety weighed heavily on her day after day without respite or relief from its grip on every breath she took.
"Forget it; don't answer that."
Brendon had no reason to regret anything anymore since the person he loved had returned and fulfilled his promise to his grandfather. If his grandfather were still alive, perhaps there might have been some hesitation, but now there wasn't any reason left for him to regret anything anymore.
Brendon lowered his gaze as he threw away the gauze and replaced it with a new band-aid. The orange light shone upon him, casting shadows upon chiseled features. His low head caused light haloing around him which fell upon both shirt fabric or skin making him look clean-cut yet charming. The scene was peaceful and warm all around them.
Over the past few years, she was like a frog in lukewarm water, trapped in Brendon's web, turning the act of loving him into a habit.
