Chapter 369

Noelle was visibly taken aback by Jade’s request. Winter had just left, and now, Jade had arrived. If Noelle still did not understand their intentions after all these years, then she would have lived her twenty- some years in vain.

Noelle gazed at Jade with eyes that seemed to say a lot without speaking a word. Jade felt a weird twinge of guilt when Noelle looked at her like that, but she shook it off quickly. She glanced around at everyone and said, “Noelle, it’s been ages since mom last saw you. What’s the matter? Don’t you want to talk to me even a little bit?”

Inside, Noelle just laughed calmly. She thought Jade was pretty good at pretending–she wondered if Jade had learned that from Winter, or if it was the other way around. Noelle did not let anything show on her face, though. She just sat there, silent.

Jade was annoyed on the inside, but with Samuel, Sebastian, and Charles there, she did not think it was a good idea to get mad at Noelle. So, she smiled and said, “Noelle, Mom’s got something for you. Your sister’s married now, so I’m worried about you. We haven’t had a good talk in so long, and you’re always so busy. You’re never at home!”

“Cut it out!” Sebastian cut in, losing his patience. “You’re her mom, and you’re not doing a great job. You’re always blaming Noelle for stuff! Isn’t it your fault Noelle doesn’t feel at home with the Shaws?”

“Father!” Jade was shocked that Sebastian would scold her in front of so many people. However, since he was her dad, she could not get mad at him. Instead, she blamed Noelle in her heart. “What do you mean? Noelle is my daughter. I would never treat her badly! Father–in–law, you know how I am with Noelle every day.” Jade looked at Samuel with hope, thinking he would not want to embarrass himself in front of Sebastian.

However, Jade was wrong. Samuel and Sebastian might not always agree, but they were on the same page about Noelle.

Samuel looked upset. “Today is Winter’s big day, but instead of taking care of her, you keep bothering Noelle. Don’t you see all these guests? Go and greet them!”

“Father, Grandpa…” Jade felt frustrated and upset, but she was not ready to give up. Just then, her phone rang. “Hello, Yitty? Yes, are you here?” Jade glanced around. “Okay, I’ll come find you. Don’t worry, everything will be taken care of.”

Charles’s eyes sparkled with a sharp light. He looked down, grabbed his phone, and sent a text. The reply came back quickly, just one word: “Arrived!”

Charles’s lips twitched into a small smile, and when he looked up, his eyes met Noelle’s. He gave her a quick nod. Confused, Noelle pulled out her phone and texted Charles, “What’s going on?”

“Just go if she wants you to,” Charles texted back after a quick edit, and added, “Everything will be fine!”

Feeling better, Noelle nodded. She noticed Jade had just ended a phone call and stood up. “Didn’t you

want to talk to me?”

Jade was caught off guard by Noelle’s sudden willingness, but she was too busy to question it. Yitty had called to say her son had arrived but was missing. He had to be somewhere else soon, so she asked Jade if they were still going to meet today.
