The Cherished Wife

Chapter 271

The police officer noticed something was off. “Could you have made a mistake?”

“What do you mean, a mistake? Noelle is my girlfriend!” Xavier tried to make another call as he spoke, but the police officer took the phone away. “You’re a funny one. Your girlfriend called the police and got you arrested for disruption? I think she might not even be your girlfriend! Or did you guys break up? I’ve seen plenty of scenarios like this. Also, what’s a man like you doing at a young girl’s house this late at night?”

“It was just a small misunderstanding. We didn’t break up, officer. Please give me the phone so I can make another call!”

The officer said exasperatedly, “I can give you the phone, but I don’t think you should be calling your girlfriend. Call your parents instead!”

Xavier took the phone and dialed Noelle’s number once again. The phone rang twice before someone picked up. “Hello?” This time, it was Noelle who answered. “Who’s speaking?”

“It’s me, Noelle!” Xavier forced himself to suppress his displeasure as he asked, “Who’s the man who answered the phone just now?”

Noelle narrowed her eyes as she glanced at the number and then in the direction of the bathroom. She immediately jerked out of the sleepiness she was shrouded in and asked, “Xavier Harris, have you lost your mind? What’s the point of using all these different numbers to call me in the middle of the night?” Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

“What’s the point? Noelle Shaw, who the hell answered the phone just now? How dare you call the police and report me for being disruptive! Noelle, we…”

“Enough. Don’t you realize how annoying you are? What sort of nonsense are you spouting so late at night?! When did I call the police on you? Also, my man was the one who answered the phone just now, but that’s none of your business!” Noelle said impatiently before hanging up the phone and returning to bed. However, her phone kept ringing non–stop. Her temper flared up, and she answered the phone once more. “Xavier Harris, aren’t you done? When you chose to be with my sister instead of me, you should have known then that our relationship was over. Are you calling me in the middle of the night now because you don’t have anything better to do? Is there something wrong with you? I’m telling you now that we’re not together anymore, so you should stop calling me all the time!”

“Miss!” A man’s gentle voice rang out from the other end of the line. “I’m an officer from Prosperity District’s local police station. May I know what your relationship with Mr. Harris is?”

Stunned, Noelle glanced at her phone before she responded, “Oh, hello, officer. He is my elder sister’s fiance. You may contact his fiancee if there’s anything else you need.”

The officer was stunned upon hearing that, and he turned to look at Xavier as he chuckled. “Alright, thank you, Miss. It’s nothing major–someone called the police on him for being disruptive, so we called him to the station to help with the investigation!”

Noelle bit on her lip and got out of bed when she saw Charles coming out of the bathroom. Charles walked over and balanced one hand on the mattress as he asked, “Who’s calling this late at night?”

“An officer from the local police station. It’s nothing important!” Noelle said as she reached a hand out to ruffle Charles‘ hair. “Dry your hair so you can get a good night’s sleep.” Then, she said to the police officer, “My husband and I will be retiring for the night if there isn’t anything else, officer.”

“Oh, alright. We won’t keep you from getting your rest, Miss.”

The officer hung up the phone and turned to Xavier, a solemn look on his face. “Mr. Harris, Ms. Shaw claims she isn’t your girlfriend, but your fiance’s younger sister. How could you hit on your sister–in–law? And she’s even married!”
