Chapter 25
Although Jason wasn’t happy with the fact that I was going to be away for a day, he still dropped me off with a long, loving kiss.
I took out the pregnancy test as soon as I was in my room, read and followed the instructions, and sat in front of my clock for the five longest and scariest minutes that were going to determine my future.
After five minutes, I took out the pregnancy test with my heart ringing in my ears and looked for the signs.
Lo and behold, I was pregnant because there were two strong lines staring back at me, and I blinked twice to confirm that I wasn’t dreaming.
I was scared and sad on one side because I knew Judith wouldn’t be too happy with me because she had always talked about how glorious and wonderful my wedding day would be, and on the other, what if Jason didn’t want kids?
And on the other hand, I was happy that a life was growing in me. A life that I and Jason made.
I dropped the pregnancy test and went to my mirror, pulled up my top, and checked my still-flat stomach.
“Hello cutie,” I said while rubbing my stomach. “How are you doing in there?”
“I’m fine, mom,” I imagined the baby saying.
“Of course, I know you are. Nice meeting you, cutie.”
“We’ve been together for a whole month, mom,” my baby said back.
“But I’m just meeting you officially.”
“We officially met the day dad finalized my coming.”
“Do you think dad will be glad to meet you?”
“Of course, I know he will be.”
I left the mirror and went for my phone. I was about to dial Jason’s number but talked myself out of it.
“It’s better we talk face-to-face,” I thought.
I dialed Cynthia’s number instead, and she picked up on the second ring.
“What’s up?” Cynthia said
“I’m fine, are you busy?”
“No, just watching ‘Jessica’, you?”
Jessica, that was the name of the Adam Lee movie we have been watching.
“I’m doing nothing right now.”
“Why? Isn’t your super hot boyfriend home?”
“He is not with me right now; I’m at home.”
“You mean… with your sister?”
“Yeah, but my sister isn’t home right now. Do you want to come?”
“Of course, I even have to talk to you about that guy.”
“Which guy?”
“John”Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
“You mean Jason’s friend?”
“Absolutely”
“I can’t wait to see you, girl.”
“I will be on my way in five.”
“I will be expecting you.”
I hung up the phone and continued my Adam Lee movie until her arrival.
We both continued the movie before our conversation turned to what happened after I and Jason left the club on Friday night.
“So, John offered you a ride home,” I added.
“Exactly. He offered me a ride home, and, you know, both of us were drunk. I said ‘thank you’ quietly since our entire journey was in silence and I was about to get down from his car when he pulled me to himself, and from there, you know, things got heated.”
“And you guys did it in his car?”
“Of course. It was fun, comfortable, and the way he did it was unexplainable.”
“I think you are still drunk, baby girl, but I’m happy for you.”
“You shouldn’t be; it’s not as if we’re a couple.”
“I know, but seeing you this happy makes me happy.”
“Thank you, sweetheart.”
“You’re welcome”
I wished to tell Cynthia about the new life that was growing in me, but I talked myself out of it because I wanted Jason to be the first person to hear about it since he was the father.
Cynthia left around three that afternoon, and I was once again left with my movie. Five minutes after Cynthia’s departure, someone knocked on the door.
I paused my movie, got out of the couch, and opened the door with the thought that it was Cynthia, that maybe she forgot something but got the scariest surprise of my life instead.
“Adrian Stokes,” I thought.
“Good afternoon, sir,” I stammered.
“May I come in?” He asked when he was already halfway in.
I closed the door and wondered what was about to go down.
“It’s all Jason’s fault.” I thought, “I wouldn’t be here facing his dad if not for yesterday’s phone call.”
I sat across from him and started playing with my fingers since he wasn’t talking and I didn’t know what to say or offer him.
“Lexi Tyler, if I’m right,” he finally said.
“Yes sir”
“How did you and my son meet?”
“At my sister’s boss’s birthday party.”
“And you decided to play some tricks on him since you knew who he was.”
“I don’t know what you are talking about, sir.”
“Explain to me how someone like you got employed in my own company.” He asked and angrily threw a file on the table.
I scanned my brain for a good answer, but since there wasn’t, I said the truth.
“Your son hired me.”
“Because you fooled him with your body.”
“I didn’t do that.”
“You wouldn’t say you did.”
“But I didn’t.”
“I’m not here to argue with you, young lady. Just stay away from my son. He already has a fiance, and if it’s money you need, I’m ready to pay you any amount.”
He brought out a checkbook and a pen from his suit pocket, tore a leaf out of the checkbook, and started writing on it.
“You don’t have to do that, sir.”
“Wait until you see the amount.”
“I’m not with your son because of his cash.”
He stopped writing and passed me the check.
“I’m not taking that,” I rejected.
“You don’t have an option.”
I took the check from him and checked the amount of $100, 000.
“You want me to leave your son for this amount?”
“I can double it or triple it.”
“I don’t want your money.”
He tore out another check leaf and started writing on it.
“I’m not taking that from you.”
He looked up from what he was writing and gave me a threatening look. “It’s either you take this check and leave my son for good or you cross paths with me and regret it with your life.”
“Are you threatening me?”
“It’s your word against mine,” he said, getting out of the couch and dropping the check leaf on the table. “That is a $1, 000, 000 check, and with that $100, 000 check, that makes it $1, 100, 000. Take that cash and leave this country forever.”

I thought about it for hours before I finally made up my mind.
“Jason, I’m sorry,” I thought.
