The wedding night
After they left the mall, Jayden and Nina drove straight to the civil affairs bureau to get their marriage certificates.
Nina felt a series of complicated emotions as she stared at the certificates in her hand.
In the blink of an eye, she was already married at the age of twenty.
The car drove along the villa areas in the Feron district area. As they passed the entrance gate, the guard recognized the license plate and greeted them politely.
Nina had read this place was where Spring City’s wealthiest and most influential people lived. The housing price in this area was extremely high and unless you had a certain status, you could not purchase a property here.
Did she just hit the jackpot?
The car stopped in front of the villa.
“Let’s go.” The cold voice pulled her back to reality. Jayden walked out of the car and went inside.
Nina followed behind him silently.
Inside the villa, several servants lined up in a row and bowed respectfully at Jayden. “Welcome home, master.”
Jayden nodded and led Nina inside. “This is Nina, your young madam. She’s the mistress of the Luxton family.”
The maids and servants were stunned, but quickly greeted her. “Welcome, Madam.”
Nina smiled politely at them.
A woman who seemed to be around in her fifties immediately came forward and stood beside Nina. “Don’t worry, master. We’ll take good care of madam.”
This was Ms. Eva, the exclusive housekeeper of Meadow Residence.
She was someone Jayden trusted, so he did not have to worry about Nina.
“I still have some work in the office. Give me your cell phone.”
“Oh…”
Nina obediently passed her cell phone to him.
Jayden furrowed his brow when he received the XX phone from her.
What era was his new wife living in? These cell phones stopped being manufactured five years ago, but she was still using them.
He made a mental note to gift her the latest model when he returned later in the evening.
As his wife, he should never suffer any grievances.
After saving his number on her cell phone, he returned it to her. “Call me if you need anything. I’ll be back at night.”
Nina nodded at him understandingly and watched as he left the house with his assistant.
“Young madam, please follow me. I’ll show you around the house.” Eva pulled her enthusiastically.
For some reason, Nina found the woman in front of her to be rather excited.
Meadow Residence was the most opulent private property in the entire Feron district.
It had two floors, with a spacious living room, an elegantly furnished dining area, an indoor swimming pool, a gym, etc. The floor inside was laid with a thick lamb fur carpet.
In the garden, there was an expansive patio, well-laden and beautiful.
Last was the master bedroom.
The master bedroom was over a hundred square meters in size. It was charcoal themed and complimented very much with Jayden’s personality.
The bedroom and study room were connected. There was also an enormous bathroom that had a huge custom-made jacuzzi.
It was very luxurious.
The house tour had given Nina a whole new perspective on rich people.
“Young madam, your clothes and other items have been prepared. If you’re dissatisfied with anything, please let me know.” Eva smiled at her gently.
Nina wasn’t used to her new form of address. It made her seem like a middle-aged woman. But seeing the warm smile on Eva’s face, she did not change it.
“Thank you, Ms. Eva.”
“You’re welcome. Then I shall not disturb you from resting. Please let me know if you need anything.”
She quietly left after Nina nodded.
Nina’s POV
The sky had turned dark outside.
All the maids and servants lived in the servant’s quarter behind the manor.
Jayden was someone who liked tranquillity.
Except for the weekly cleaning, and Ms. Eva who would take care of his meals, no one could walk around his private property.
And today was no exception.
We were supposed to go out for dinner. But, because of the heavy rainfall, the plan had to be canceled.
It was boring to stay in the house all day. I couldn’t even retrieve my belongings because they were still at the college dorm.
To pass the time, I could only watch tv.NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.
I waited for Jayden in the living room because I didn’t know when he would return. My hands fidgeted around the cell phone, contemplating whether to call him.
Soon, the sound of the car engine rang in the parking lot. Steady footsteps rang and his tall and sturdy body entered.
I stood up from the couch and felt my palms sweat. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous in front of my newly wedded husband.
“W-Welcome home.” I stammered, forcing the words out of my mouth.
Jayden’s eyes flickered in surprise but soon returned to normal.
“Have you eaten?”
I shook my head. “Not yet.”
“Wait for me, I’ll get changed.” Saying, he climbed up the stairs.
By that time, I had placed the dishes on the dining table. After fifteen minutes, I saw Jayden come down.
He was tall, around 189 cm, and had long legs. His definite body proportions were what we designers coveted.
“I know I look delicious, but you should fill up your stomach first.” He teased when he saw me staring at him.
I withdrew my gaze and sat on the chair.
Four simple dishes looked delicious.
Jayden was not a picky eater, and I wasn’t particular about my food either.
I picked up the spoon and started eating, not paying attention to him. Throughout the dinner, none of us talked.
I had expected it to be awkward, but things went smoothly.
“What are you planning to do with your family?” He asked.
With a puzzled look, I looked at him as he continued. “Don’t tell me you’ve forgiven them?”
“I’ll never forgive them. But I can also never deny that they raised me for five years.”
If not, she would’ve been begging on the streets today. I will consider it as a repayment for taking me all these years.
“Tsk.” A hint of contempt could be seen in his eyes.
I didn’t mind that he looked down at me. I was no saint, but I knew how to differentiate between gratitude and vengeance.
“Your Dad’s company is low on funds. If they don’t fill in the gaps, they’ll have to apply for bankruptcy in a few days.”
“They might come for you again.” He reminded.
I grew silent.
I knew the farce would not end at the Santiago house. Having lived with them, I knew best what kind of people they were. They would not stop until they have seen the coffin.
I had my considerations about it. I was looking forward to seeing them at my doorstep.
I might have forgiven them this time, but that didn’t mean I’ll forget how they’d pushed me into a corner.
I wanted to get a job, graduate, and move to a new city.
But here I was, twenty and married, having this conversation with my newly wedded husband.
“Just this once. Besides, what can I do? Their crime isn’t even sufficient to alarm the police.”
After eating, Jayden wiped the corner of his mouth elegantly. “Why do you need the police? I’m enough for ten thousand of the Santiagos.”
A warm feeling gushed inside me. Just when I thought I could enjoy its warmth, the man continued. “Why don’t you beg me and I’ll bring the Santiagos to your mercy”
The corner of my lips twitched.
He seemed to get some kind of pleasure seeing me surrender.
“Thank you, but I can handle my affairs.” I rejected him.
The last time I begged him, I got married. I didn’t know what else I’d have to put at stake if I begged him again.
A melodious ringtone rang in the dining hall, breaking the silence. Jayden excused himself and answered the call.
I let out a sigh of relief and thanked the person who had called. I didn’t have to be in the same room as him.
—
Nina had been happy too soon and did not know what awaited her.
She returned to her room after putting away the dishes.
Jayden was in his study dealing with urgent matters. Taking advantage of his absence, she took out a purple nightgown and walked to the bathroom.
After she was done, he was still nowhere in sight.
Suddenly, she fell at a loss.
Tonight was their wedding night, and she was not anticipating it in the least. It would be her first time sharing a room with someone she didn’t know.
Although they had slept together, for Nina, who was under the influence of the drug, the incident did not count.
As an endless stream of thoughts went through her mind, she decided on a conclusion.
Sprinting towards the enormous bed, she lifted the duvet and buried herself inside it.
Surely, he wouldn’t want to get intimate with a half-dead person, right?
Besides, she could not think of anything else.
The door opened after a few minutes. Nina shut her eyes and tried to act as normal as she could.
The night light was off, and she peeked from the duvet.
Jayden noticed her small movements and did not expose her. His lips curved up and shook his head, walking inside the bathroom.
Nina finally let out the breath that she had been holding ever since he entered the room.
She had a strict routine. She woke up and slept on time, yet she could not fall asleep tonight.
Half an hour later, Jayden finished his bath and got out. He was wearing a dark-colored nightgown. The belts of the gown were tied loosely around his waist, exposing his well-built muscles.
