The only woman in my life
“Who are you planning to take care of her?”
Amid the tense standoff, a deep and authoritative voice suddenly rang out, slicing through the heated argument like a blade.
All eyes turned toward the source of the commanding tone, and there stood Jayden Luxton, his presence filling the room with an undeniable aura of power.
Nina’s heart skipped a beat as she saw Jayden stepping forward and shielding her behind him, his dark gaze fixed on Kevin with coldness.
Jayden’s unexpected arrival caught Kevin off guard. He froze for a moment before his forehead broke out into a nervous sweat.
“Why wasn’t I aware that my wife needed someone to take care of her?” Jayden continued, his voice cold and menacing.
Kevin felt a sinking feeling as though someone had punched him in the gut.
“Big Brother, I-I didn’t mean that,” he stammered, desperately attempting to salvage the situation.
Jayden’s gaze remained fixed on Kevin, demanding an explanation for his hurtful words. “Care to explain what exactly you meant by saying those nasty words, then?”
“I-I…” Kevin wiped his sweat-drenched forehead, struggling to find the right words. His fear of Jayden’s wrath made it difficult for him to form a coherent response.
Nina couldn’t help but help him recall the hurtful words. “He said that I was a gold digger and seduced you to climb the social ladder,” she repeated sarcastically.
The atmosphere in the room immediately shifted as Jayden’s expression turned icy cold. His expression hardened, and he clenched his fist tightly, trying to hold back his anger.
It took every ounce of his self-control to cut off this bastard’s tongue.
“Apologize,” Inhaling, his deep voice resonated through the room, demanding an immediate apology for the disrespect shown to his wife.
Kevin’s disbelief was evident as his face turned pale with regret.
He merely wanted to teach this woman a lesson, but did not expect such a severe reaction from his usually composed and aloof older brother.
Growing up, Kevin has been very afraid of Jayden, and his fear was instilled deep into his bones.

The man might be smiling on the surface, but once provoked, even the devil was no match for him.
Kevin felt powerless and frustrated, but eventually apologized, albeit reluctantly. “I-I’m sorry, Nina,”
“What did you call her?” Jayden questioned, his tone firm.
Kevin raised his head, his eyes avoiding direct contact with Jayden’s, and stuttered. “Sis-Sister-in-law,”
Nina watched him coldly but had no intention of accepting his apology. If not for Jayden, it would have been difficult for her to confront the mocking gazes of the crowd.
Of course, Jayden did not ask her to forgive Kevin.
Turning his attention towards the crowd, his powerful presence seemed to intimidate everyone present. His voice carried authority as he addressed the curious gazes of the crowd.
“I know there have been rumors circulating about my marriage,” he started, addressing the curious gazes of the crowd. “I want to make this clear once and for all.”
“Nina is the wife I have handpicked, and I stand by my decision wholeheartedly. If it weren’t for my relentless pursuit, I would never have been able to win her. She’s the only woman I, Jayden Luxton, will ever have in my life.”
He paused for a moment, allowing his words to sink in, and then continued with an air of warning, “If anyone dares to disrespect or harm her again, I will not tolerate it. And if she were to ever leave me because of someone’s unforgiving actions, I would ensure that everyone in Spring City suffers with me.”
Jayden’s threat held a resolute determination, leaving no room for doubt or speculation. And through this incident, he wanted everyone to understand his stance.
This was not just an announcement, but a warning to everyone present.
The crowd fell into silence, taken aback by Jayden’s threat, as a sense of fear swept through them. They had never seen him display such fierce protectiveness over someone before.
For Jayden to go to such lengths for his wife meant that their relationship was not as ordinary as the rumors claimed.
Fortunately, they remained on the sidelines and did not participate in destroying Nina’s reputation, or else the consequences would be unimaginable.
Jayden’s words astounded Nina, and her heart swelled with a bittersweet feeling.
Jayden’s actions and thoughts were like a mystery she could never solve. Their relationship had always been enigmatic and he had repeatedly warned her not to fall in love with him. Yet, he continued spoiling her to no end.
No matter how indifferent she acted, it was impossible for her heart not to stir.
Jayden turned his attention back to Kevin, who stood frozen like a fool. “Why are you still here?” he asked, displeased.
“Dad asked me to welcome Liam on his behalf,” Kevin quickly replied, trying to justify his presence.
Jayden raised an eyebrow and quipped. “Why wasn’t I informed that my wife changed her name to Liam?”
The room erupted in laughter at his remark.
Their father, William Luxton, had tasked Kevin to welcome Liam, but the first thing he did upon arriving was to find trouble with Nina instead.
“Have you greeted Liam yet?” Jayden pressed further.
“No,” Kevin shook his head, realizing his mistake. “I’ll do it right away.”
Before Kevin could react, a voice laced with sarcasm echoed from afar, “It’s all right. I’m not worthy of being received by The Kevin Luxton.”
All eyes turned to see Liam standing not far away, his demeanor lazy and arrogant. His remark was a subtle reminder, highlighting the differences between the two brothers.
They were both brothers, but why did it seem like Liam was the one groomed by the Luxton family, unlike Kevin, this scoundrel?
“Since Liam has already expressed his sentiments, there’s no need for you to linger here,” Jayden continued harshly. “Furthermore, I recall that the company needs an urgent supply of earth materials. Since you’re so free, go and oversee the mining operations in Country X.”
Kevin’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Country X was notorious for its scorching temperatures, reaching as high as 54 degree Celsius. Moreover, the mining of earth materials required grueling labor and was far from the comfortable life Kevin was accustomed to as the young master of the Luxton empire.
He knew that Jayden was just getting back at him for defaming Nina earlier.
With his voice trembling slightly, Kevin tried to retort, “Why are you so protective of a woman, Jayden? Is she worth it?”
“Not just any woman,” Jayden’s eyes locked on Kevin as he enunciated. “She’s my wife. And to me, she’s worth everything.”
“Rick,” He called out to his assistant. “Make the arrangements for Kevin. He’ll be leaving for Country X immediately.”
Kevin knew it was futile to protest and could only grit his teeth, accepting his fate.
After he left, Jayden swept his dark, piercing gaze across everyone in the room with a warning, making everyone uncomfortable under his scrutiny.
The meaning in his gaze was very obvious.
Everyone who was dissatisfied was welcome to challenge him!

Fuming with rage, Kevin stormed out of the hotel, slamming his car door with a violent punch. His anger boiled inside him, making his heart race with hatred.
He wanted to strangle, Nina, that bitch for humiliating him in front of everyone.
And Jayden, that bastard! What right did he have to claim any superiority over him?
“Damn her! Damn him!” he seethed, his mind filled with vengeful thoughts. He wanted nothing more than to see the couple suffer.
Despite being only a few years older, Jayden’s power in the Luxton family was enough to make everyone tremble with fear.
He loathed the fact that Jayden’s position and influence surpassed his own, despite being an illegitimate bastard.
The Luxton empire was rightfully Kevin’s, and he was determined to claim what was his birthright. He couldn’t bear the thought of Jayden climbing higher while he remained in his shadow.
His mom was right. If they didn’t take action now, Jayden would continue to soar above them, making their lives miserable.
No. It could not continue like this.
He had to think of something soon. Only then could he quench his anger.

The brief episode did not affect the rest of the banquet. As the evening continued, the atmosphere resumed its former joviality. Eventually, everyone gathered for dinner.
Seated at the main table were Stephan, his sister Nora, Liam, Jayden, and Nina. The group appeared at ease, engaging in cheerful conversations as they savored the delectable dishes before them.
Madison, too, wished to be seated beside them, yearning to be the center of attention.
Unfortunately, the seats were limited at the main table. With no choice, she had to settle at a table on the side.
From time to time, she would glance at the figures at the main table in envy.
As the exquisite dishes were served, Jayden and Liam, with attentive care, ensured that their partners’ plates were filled with delicacies.
Stephan, on the other hand, was forcefully stuffed with their display of affection.
With an audible sigh, he wondered why he seemed to be the brightest tube light between the couples.
Once the sumptuous dinner came to an end, Nina excused herself and made her way to the restroom. After attending to her needs, she noticed Nora standing in front of the mirror, meticulously fixing her makeup. The young woman looked radiant in her elegant attire.
“Hey,” she greeted her. “I hope you’re having a good time at the banquet. And I’m sorry you had to witness the ugly mess earlier.”
“No big deal. I’m used to it,” Nora waved off the apology casually as she dried her hands, leaning against the edge of the cubicle. “Besides, I’m always up for a good show. Especially when there’s a good face-slapping involved.”
“You haven’t changed a bit,” Nina chuckled softly, reminiscing about their shared memories from school.
As the most infamous troublemaker in their school, Nora has always been fearless and carefree.
Nora playfully touched her nose, “Well, I’ll take that as a compliment. But I assure you, I’ve certainly turned over a new leaf.”
Her voice held a touch of nostalgia as she continued, “I never imagined that we would meet again like this.”
Nina’s soft smile echoed the sentiment. “Yes, it’s been too long indeed.”
Silence enveloped them, and for a moment, neither of them spoke, reminiscing the memories from their past.
After a long while, Nina looked at Nora, whose face now glowed healthily. Different from how it was in the past, and asked, “How have you been all these years?”
Hearing the question, Nina’s smile slowly faded, and a flicker of sadness passed through her eyes.
