Chapter 584 I Found Your Biological Daughter
Cayden helped Avery to change into house slippers.
Then, he wrapped an arm around her before walking toward Allie. His greeting was colored with an admonishing tone. “Hey Mom, I'm back with Avery. She brought a present for you.”
His frosty gaze caused Allie to shudder involuntarily. She promptly turned her head away, hiding her displeased expression.
It's all because of Avery that the relationship between my son and me is becoming worse!
Naturally, Allie's hatred toward Avery only deepened by the day.
“Mrs. Moore,” Avery greeted her before handing her a gift box of beauty products. “I heard you were a fan of this brand, so I bought a gift set for you when I went shopping.”
Allie turned around and shot her a sharp look.
Her sullen expression showed no signs of easing since Avery's arrival.
Her well-manicured fingers stroked a coffee cup lazily as she ignored Avery and addressed her son instead, “Cayden, didn't I tell you never to bring this woman home again? Why can't you listen? She embarrassed the Moore family at the engagement party and turned us into a laughingstock. Are you trying to anger me on purpose?”
Undeterred, Cayden tightened his arm around Avery and encouraged her to join him on the couch. He scrunched his brows in displeasure and returned, “Mom, Avery is your daughter-in-law.”
“I don't need a daughter-in-law who'll drag our family name through the mud. Thank you very much!” his mother spat coldly.
When her gaze landed on the branded beauty products Avery placed on the coffee table, Allie added disgustedly, “Ask her to take these back! I don't want to ruin my face!”
Impressively, Avery's smile never slipped throughout the exchange. She piped up, “I chose them when I was out shopping with Cayden, Mrs. Moore. He said this is your favorite brand.”
“Just accept it, Mom. She wants you to have it,” urged Cayden.
He had made up his mind to spend the rest of his life with Avery.
Even if his mother disapproved of their relationship, he would never stop trying to improve her impression and relationship with Avery.
Hearing that the present was Cayden's recommendation smoothed Allie's ruffled feathers somewhat. Still, she shot Avery a haughty glance before commenting, “She's just an ordinary worker. What can she afford to buy with that measly pay of hers? This set would've cost her several months' worth of pay. She's still spending my dear son's money at the end of the day.” Content is © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Avery remained silent.
Her mother-in-law's prejudice toward her was bone-deep. It was impossible to change her opinion in a short period.
That did not stop Cayden from defending her. “Mom, Avery paid for this with her own money. I didn't even lend her a dime.”
One could cut the tension in the air with a knife. Cayden gently tapped Avery on the shoulder and said, “Ery, you can head to the bedroom first. I'd like to speak with my mom alone.”
Avery nodded compliantly in agreement.
At the same time, Cayden shot the housekeeper a meaningful look, instructing her to escort Avery to the bedroom on the second floor.
They had barely left the living room when Allie exploded at her son. “Listen to me, Cayden. A woman like Avery doesn't deserve you. Before we even get into her distasteful background, she's a divorcee! Don't forget about her marriage to Dylan. I wouldn't have said a thing if this were a fling, but you can't actually believe it's sensible to marry such an impure woman! I will never accept her as my daughter-in- law. Over my dead body!”
Cayden's steely and intent stare began to unnerve Allie. She felt an overwhelming urge to avert her gaze away from his.
She sputtered, “Why are you staring at me like that, Cayden?” Then, she added firmly, “You may have fallen under her spell, but I would never allow such a poor woman into the Moore family! You should be marrying the daughter of a family as reputable as ours!”
Suddenly, Cayden's lips curved into a smirk. He replied coldly, “Does she truly come from such a poor background, Mom? Are you a hundred percent sure of that?”
Allie stiffened, her heart beating like a runaway horse.
She looked away guiltily and yelped, “What are you implying? I don't understand!”
Cayden arched a brow. His gaze turned stony as he explained, “Mom, I've done a fair bit of digging into the past. Don't think I'm blissfully oblivious just because I've kept the truth to myself. I'm sure you still remember what happened when Mrs. Lambert gave birth. I think you don't need me to refresh your memory. You'd probably know better about Avery's true identity than me.”
His words instantly paralyzed Allie with dread.
She pointed a shaky finger at her son and stammered, “W-What do you know?”
Swapping Claire's baby was a secret that Allie's deepest, darkest secret.
She had been so certain that she would bring the secret with her to the grave.
Allie never imagined the first person to uncover her ugly secret would be her own son.
Cayden stood up from the couch and stared at his mother. He declared, “I basically know everything there is to know about the incident. It's only because you're my mother that I haven't revealed everything in front of Avery. I can only hope your attitude toward Avery will improve or I might accidentally let the secret slip one day. Once Avery learns the truth and reunites with her very powerful biological parents, you can imagine what will happen then.”
“Are you threatening your own mother?” Allie glared fiercely at her son, choking on her anger and resentment.
He merely replied nonchalantly, “If that's what you think this is, sure.”
“You j*rk! I should've strangled you when you were born! That would've spared me from this wrath!” Having lost all reason, Allie flung her cup full of boiling hot coffee at Cayden.
He deftly turned his head aside and dodged the boiling liquid. He lowered his gaze, hiding the fierce emotions in his gaze.
The ceramic coffee cup broke into smithereens, sloshing coffee across the floor.
“I'm going up. Ask Lydia to clean this mess up.” With that, Cayden headed upstairs, leaving his mother alone.
Allie watched her son's departing figure as his cruel threat replayed in her mind. Her chest squeezed painfully, and she threw several coffee cups on the floor to vent her frustration.
Avery is my nemesis! If I even had an inkling that she would eventually have my son wrapped around her finger, I wouldn't have spared her life out of mercy! I should've left her to die in a dumpster!

Meanwhile, Nicole had been focusing on recuperating in the Lambert residence since exiting the entertainment industry.
The experience appeared to have drilled some sense into her, which relieved Claire.
Otherwise, Nicole would have been drowning in movie filmings or variety show appearances with no room even for a breather.
Nicole's prolonged rest at home helped her to relax. She joined Claire in doing yoga exercises, and floral arranging. Besides, she even went as far as showing an interest in running the business.
Claire was satisfied with the change in her daughter.
She appreciated how Nicole had more time to accompany her since she left the entertainment industry.
One day, while Claire explained the history of floral arranging to Nicole at home, Silvia called.
Once Claire answered the call, Silvia shouted anxiously, “Claire, I found your biological daughter! You've got to come to my place now!”
