Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Avery went upstairs and saw the cleaner cleaning up the room.
She gave the cleaner a polite nod and went to the closet. Inside, she found an outfit ironed yesterday before going to the bathroom to change into it.
The cleaner was swift. When Avery finished washing up, she had removed most traces of Cayden from the room.
Seeing that, Avery heaved a sigh of relief.
Ten minutes ago, she received a text from Zayne: Ery, I've completed the project assigned to our team. I'll head to Hallsbay this afternoon and meet you at your hotel. Let's have a day off tomorrow.
Avery replied: Sure thing. I'll text you the address of my hotel.
Strangely, she felt guilty as she glanced around the room Cayden slept in last night.
When the cleaner completed her job, Avery was staring at the bathroom, deep in thought. Her brows were knitted together.
“I'm done!” the cleaner announced cheerfully as she stood at the door with a bag of trash in her hands.
Avery snapped out of her reverie. “Thank you.”
The cleaner added, “I placed the used underwear in a box in the closet.”
“Underwear?” Avery repeated in confusion.
I don't remember throwing a used underwear around.
“The male underwear belongs to your husband, right? I found it in the laundry basket in the bathroom,” the cleaner explained.
Flashing one last smile, she spun on her heels and left the room.
Avery was bewildered.
Male underwear? My husband...
Opening the closet once again, she squatted down and searched through it.
Indeed, she found worn underwear at the very bottom of the closet.
Beet red with embarrassment, Avery took a few deep breaths to calm herself down. Her head throbbing, she pursed her lips helplessly as she had no idea how to deal with the underwear.
I can't return it to him, can I? Forget it. I'll just toss it in the trash. It's just underwear, anyway. He must have more at home.
Her cheeks burned as she picked up the male underwear. Suddenly, she recalled a female friend she got to know in Ustrana who was the designer of this underwear brand.
Back then, her friend used to joke, “This underwear brand is more form-fitting than usual. Its dark color compliments the man's tanned skin to show their maturity and decisiveness. If you run into a man who wears this underwear brand, don't let him slip away!”
Avery shook her head and berated herself for thinking too much.
Fortunately, her phone rang at the moment with a call from Cecelia.
Avery tossed her boss' underwear away hastily and hurried out to answer her phone.
“Hey, Cecelia,” she greeted.
“Ery, have you had breakfast? Go have breakfast now if you haven't. We'll meet downstairs at ten. There's a meeting I want you to join,” Cecelia told her.
“Sure. I'll see you downstairs at ten,” Avery agreed readily.
She adored Rory and Zachary, but work was more important.
As Trident Group was paying her salary, she hoped she could work hard and learn more things to improve herself.
That was what her father hoped to see.
Avery's expression dimmed when she thought of Leonardo.
She had to admit that Henrietta still looked alluring even though she was almost fifty. One could
imagine how pretty Henrietta was when she was young.
Dad loves her even though she's his second wife. Until now, he can't stop sacrificing for her.
Avery was confused. From what she remembered, Leonardo loved her mother dearly. Otherwise, he wouldn't have drowned himself in alcohol for a total of eight years after her death.
She remembered how Leonardo lost the will to live after her mother's death.
At ten sharp, Avery went downstairs.
“Get in,” Cecelia urged.
Most people working in this industry would wear simple and professional outfits.
Avery wore a similar outfit as Cecelia. They both wore plain blouses with the top two buttons unbuttoned and tight-fitting skirts that complimented their curves.
There were two cars heading to the meeting.
Avery and Cecelia were in one car, and the other luxurious vehicle was occupied by Cayden and Trevor.
“Isn't Mr. Dartsley coming with us?” Avery asked. She wasn't familiar with her work yet and took the opportunity to ask questions. “Cecelia, what do I have to do there?”
“He brought the kids to the Ferris wheel,” Cecelia told her. “When we arrive, you don't have to do anything. Just listen and learn so you can gain more experience.”
“Got it.” Avery nodded.
At Majestic Hotel, the valet gave them a warm welcome. The conference room was on the ninety-ninth floor.
That was the first time Avery got to see a business discussion between successful entrepreneurs. When both entrepreneurs shook hands, she had to admit that they were both charming and attractive.
Cayden was a different man in a business setting.
He could solve any problem easily. Even though there were plenty of people who were more influential than him, he kept his imposing presence so they wouldn't look down on him.
Avery dared not let her thoughts wander and focused on the meeting.
In the end, Jack Saunders, who was sitting at the east of the venue, shot Cayden a grin. “My darling daughter insisted on coming with me. She also forced me to convince you to bring her on a tour around Ackleton. If I can't do that, she'll cut off ties with me. Cayden, I've spoilt her, huh?” he commented.
Just like other ordinary beings, Avery kept mum.
This was obviously their boss' private affairs.
It was half past one when they finally got to leave Majestic Hotel.
Avery hugged her notebook and entered the car. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
Cecelia climbed into the car after her.
Jack and his daughter were bidding Cayden goodbye at the hotel's entrance not far ahead.
“See? Mr. Saunders wants to marry his daughter into the Moore family,” Cecelia said with a chuckle.
Not knowing how to respond, Avery said vaguely, “If everything goes well, is Mr. Saunders' daughter marrying above or below her status?”
That was a difficult question.
Cecelia relaxed and started chatting with Avery casually. “As of now, it's just Mr. Saunders and his daughter's wishful thinking. No one knows what is going on in Mr. Moore's mind. If Mr. Moore refused to budge, even a princess would be considered marrying above her status.”
Cecelia's right.
Avery lifted her head and glanced at Jack's daughter. If Mr. Moore marries her, she'll be Rory and Zach's mother.
