The Billionaire's Mistake (Anya and Daniel)

MISTAKE 68

Chapter 68: Humiliation

Anya could not believe it. Why did he respond? All these years, he had never responded. And what did he mean by she just ran away from home? Wasn’t Anya married again?

With a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach, Selene realized that her plans had backfired spectacularly. She looks up at the smiling Anya in horror. He remarried her?

“You remarried Daniel?” Selene screamed.

“Yes, and?” Anya asked, and Selene felt humiliated.

“She came to mock the wife?” someone asked.

“No wonder Mr. Shaw had to say something. Even a mistress can get up and mock the legal wife these days. How brave,” another said. Selene could no longer take all the mockery. She had always held her head high, looking down on most women. Now they had the chance to walk over her; how could they let her go? Staying here would mean listening to insults.

And as she picked up her bags and hurried out of the salon, the chuckles and giggles of the other patrons rang in her ears. She understood one thing: Daniel had destroyed her.

Selene’s phone buzzed in her hand, and she hesitated for a moment before answering, her heart sinking as she saw her father’s name flashing on the screen.

“What do you want?” She snapped, her voice sharp with frustration.

Her father’s voice came through the line, loud and angry. “Selene, what the hell have you Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

done?” he demanded, his tone seething with fury

Selene’s stomach churned at the sound of her father’s rage, knowing she was in for an earful.” What are you talking about?” she replied, trying to keep her voice steady despite the rising. panic within her.

“I’m talking about this video that’s all over the Internet,” her father spat, his voice rising with each word. “Do you have any idea what kind of mess you’ve gotten yourself into?”

Selene swallowed hard, her mind racing as she struggled to come up with an explanation. “It’s not what it looks like,” she protested weakly, her voice trembling with fear.

Her father’s response was immediate and cutting. “I don’t want to hear your excuses, Selene,” he snapped, his tone icy with disdain. “You’ve embarrassed our family, humiliated yourself, and for what? After all your years of pursuing him, you cannot even touch him.”

Selene winced at her father’s words, the truth of his words hitting her square in the face. She had thought she was being clever and thought she could manipulate the situation to her advantage. But now, faced with her father’s righteous anger, she knew she had only succeeded in making a fool of herself.

“I want you home, Selene,” her father continued, his voice cutting through her thoughts like a

knife.

Right now. If you are not back in an hour, you can pack your bags and get out. I don’t need such a daughter.”

Selene’s heart sink at the thought of facing her father’s wrath in person, but she knew she had no choice but to obey. In a slight panic, she hung up the phone and gathered her things; she wanted to rush home and rushed home to hide.

She only made a few speculations about him. But Daniel, who had kept quiet all these years, threw stones at her.

With one last glance back at the salon, Selene turned and headed for home. She knew that if her parents could not solve this, her life was practically over. She could not afford to be thrown out right now.

By the time she got home, her mother was fuming. She inched into the house slowly to her side.

“Mom, what about Dad?” she asked cautiously.

“How would I know? He dared to have a mistress outside; now Daniel Shaw has mocked us in public. How am I supposed to survive this humiliation?” Selene’s mother screamed and swiped the side table beside her, sending all the things on scattering to the ground.

“Dad really has a mistress outside?” Selene asked in horror.

“And you! This is all your fault! Why are you so interested in a married man? You follow him everywhere; people talk behind your back, and some even say to my face that my daughter is a mistress. But you could not even be a proper mistress. You have been applying for the job all this while and have never gotten it, yet you have been deceiving the world. Look at what you have done. Even the man disdains you. Get out! Her mother’s scolding made Selene jump at few times and step out of her way.

Selene’s mother stormed into the kitchen, her anger simmering as she picked up the phone and dialed the number for Daniel’s mother.

She could not believe Daniel would put her on the spot this way. She had just had a row with her husband about his mistress outside and was severely agitated.

As the phone rang, her mind raced with thoughts of the confrontation that awaited her.

After a few rings, Daniel’s mother picked up, her voice cool and composed. “Hello?” she answered, her tone guarded.

“This is Selene’s mother,” Selene’s mother replied, her voice sharp with anger. “I need to speak to you about your son.”

Daniel’s mother’s brow raised in irritation at the urgency in Selene’s mother’s voice. “What’s the matter?” she asked, her tone cold. She was curious what would come out of this woman’s mouth.

Chaptero tuinbation.

“Your son released such a scathing statement about Selene; does he expect her to survive?” Selene’s mother explained, her voice trembling with emotion. “And now he’s gone and revealed personal information to the media. I want to know why.”

Daniel’s mother’s eyes narrowed at the accusation, her own anger rising to the surface. “I’m sorry, but what personal information are you referring to? Is it the mistresses your husband keeps at home? How is it personal information Just because you don’t know? The entire city has already drunk wine to your scandal for years now,” she asked, her voice full of scorn.

“You know what I’m talking about,” Selene’s mother shot back, her voice sharp with accusation. “He had no right to reveal that information to the media and disgrace Selene and our family. Is this how a man of his standing should behave? We even have business dealings with each other, yet he could not give us basic respect!”

Wendy was so angry, she wished she could slap the woman through the phone. If Daniel had not told her to not reveal that they knew Selene was a fake, she would have shamed this

woman.

Wendy scoffed, “Respect ? My son was raised well; why would he give respect to a mistress? Just because you sat back and let your husband carry the entire girls in the city to your house to raise, my son should respect your daughter? She dares to make up lies in the media to destroy my son’s marriage, yet he should be worried about how you feel? You could not even teach your daughter well, yet you dare to talk about other people’s children?” Wendy felt anger mounting with each passing moment. “Why would Selene spread such lies to try to destroy my son’s marriage?” she demanded, her voice filled with anger.

“Isn’t your son still married? Why are you making it sound as though…” Selene’s mother started to say.

“Isn’t it because you could not provide basic genes for a decent–looking face with more

behavior and soul? Did she look in the mirror before trying to be a mistress? She has already been caught trying to sneak into a person’s bed, but you are angry at the cameras?” Wendy

snorted.

Selene’s mother felt air leave her lungs. She was so angry that she could not breathe. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she replied, her voice defensive. “But that doesn’t excuse Daniel’s behavior. He should not shame his business partner in the media!”
