The Billionaire's Mistake (Anya and Daniel)

MISTAKE 181

Chapter 181: Pregnant

Helena shot him a withering look, even as her hands trembled against Emma’s unnaturally pale cheeks. “She’s fading fast – we must get her medical attention immediately!”

“Emma stay awake!” Helena shouted at the top of her lungs but Emma could barely register

the words she said.

Try as she might, Emma’s eyes slid shut, the pull of blissful oblivion growing too strong to resist any longer.

Just before the darkness fully claimed her, she felt the whispers of air current against her face and the piercing oscillation of helicopter blades somewhere overhead. Then nothing but silence and enveloping black reigned.

Helena watched in mounting horror as Emma’s eyes fluttered shut and her body went completely limp in her arms.

“Emma?” She shook her daughter–in–law urgently, panic gripping her chest. “Emma, stay

with me!”

But Emma didn’t respond, her head lolling back in a way that made Helena’s heart lurch. Nearby, the guards were engaging in a ferocious gunfight with the mysterious attackers, but Helena blocked it all out. Her sole focus was on the deathly still young woman cradled against

her.

‘Guards! Over here, now!” She screamed over the deafening din of the battle. “Emma needs medical attention immediately!”

Two of the nearest guards broke off, racing over with their weapons raised protectively. Their eyes went wide at the sight of Emma’s unconscious form.

“Is she hit? I don’t see any blood…” one of them said in a harsh whisper.

Helena shook her head tersely. “I don’t know, she simply lost consciousness. But we can’t wait to find out – get her to the hospital right away before it’s too late!”

Without needing to be told twice, the guards sprang into action. One called for emergency evacuation while the other carefully lifted Emma from Helena’s arms, cradling her with the

utmost care.

Within minutes, the sound of helicopter blades reverberated overhead as a sleek chopper descended through the smoke and chaos. Its side door slid open and a team of experts rappelled down, equipment at the ready.

They swiftly secured Emma onto a tray of some kind and whisked her up into the aircraft before any of the remaining assailants could regroup. Helena adamantly refused to be separated from her, leaving Jonathan to coordinate with the guards while she took off with

Emma.

Up in the sky, the team worked swiftly to stabilize their unconscious patient as Helena watched on with her heart in her throat. She clutched Emma’s limp hand like a lifeline, silently begging any deity that would listen to make sure her daughter–in–law would be alright. Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.

It seemed like an eternity before they were touching down on the helipad of the Hospital. Emma was immediately rushed inside, Helena hurrying anxiously alongside the flurry of doctors and nurses.

As soon as she was ensconced in a private treatment room, Helena pulled out her phone and dialed Richard’s number with shaking hands.

“Richard, thank heavens,” she gasped out the moment he answered. “There’s been an emergency – an attack in broad daylight on me and Emma.”

As she rapidly filled him in on the harrowing details, she could hear Richard’s breathing go harsh with barely restrained emotion. When she reached the part about Emma’s still undetermined condition, his anguished voice cut her off abruptly.

“I’m coming there right now. Don’t let them do anything until I arrive!”

True to his word, Richard burst through the treatment room doors less than fifteen minutes later. His usual cool poise and control was utterly shattered, his face etched in naked fear and

distress.

“Emma?” He was at her bedside in two long strides, stroking back her hair urgently.” Sweetheart, can you hear me?”

To Helena’s profound relief, Emma’s eyes fluttered open at his voice. She blinked slowly, taking in Richard’s panicked face with a furrow of consternation.

“Richard? What’s going on…?” She murmured groggily. “What happened-?”

Whatever else she intended to ask was swallowed up as Richard crushed her against his chest in a searing embrace, burying his face in the crook of her neck. His powerful frame shuddered with the force of his relief.

“Oh, thank God,” he rasped out in a choked whisper, raining desperate kisses over her face and hair. “When they told me…I thought I’d lost you.”

Emma automatically wrapped her arms around his trembling form, bemused but soothed by the enveloping warmth of his ironclad embrace. Over Richard’s shoulder, she shot Helena a quizzical look.

His mother merely smiled softly and teased, though her own eyes were over–bright with unshed tears. “I think the fearsome Richard Madison may have shown his softer underbelly today.”

Chapter 131: Pregnant

As if on cue, more voices sounded from the doorway and a harried Jonathan rushed in, his practiced mask of stoicism nowhere in evidence “Where are they? Helena? Emma? Are you both alright?”

Helena quickly assured her husband she was unhurt before he descended on Emma, clasping her shoulders and gazing deep into her eyes for reassurance that she was indeed whole. Only when she smiled bemusedly up at him did some of the tension bleed from his shoulders.

“I want the full story,” he stated in a tone that brokered no argument. “But first – have the doctors looked you over? You took quite the battering.”

Richard finally lifted his head from Emma’s shoulder to gaze beseechingly at the gaggle of staff who’d averted their eyes during the family’s emotional reunion. One particularly brave nurse stepped forward, her expression carefully neutral.

“The patient’s tests are still underway at present, but I can assure you she’s in no danger. We’re just waiting for the results from her panels and scans to come back.”

Jonathan’s authoritative nod made it clear her response didn’t quite cut it for him. “And what of the reason for her loss of consciousness? Has that been determined?”

The nurse froze for a split second, opening her mouth to reply – just as the door opened once more to admit a tall, graying doctor in a Madison coat.

“Apologies for the delay,” he offered the room at large. “I have the test results right here. Aside from some bumps and bruises from today’s…unpleasantness, Mrs. Madison appears to

be in excellent health.”

He paused, smiling warmly down at Emma where she remained cocooned in Richard’s arms. In fact, the reason she briefly lost consciousness was likely due to the added strain her condition is placing on her body right now. Seeing as how she’s just passed her first trimester, that’s no great surprise.”

A deafening silence fell over the room as every occupant absorbed the weight of his casuall words. Emma was the first to find her voice.

“I’m…I’m pregnant?” She echoed faintly, one hand fluttering subconsciously to her stomach

How? She and Richard only did it a few times. She recalled how hard it was for her to have Henry when she had gotten married. They had even visited several doctors.

Chuckling, the doctor bobbed his head. “Indeed you are, Mrs. Madison About two weeks along

if my estimates are correct. Let me be among the first to wish you congratulations!”

While his words triggered a fresh storm of emotion and commotion from the assembled Madisons, Emma could only gape in blank shock

Her and Richard….they were going to be parents.

She was carrying his child.

She was not the only one shocked. Richard had lost his soul.

Meanwhile, Daniel had finally gotten information that Emma was married. He swiped his hand over his desk, dragging everything to the ground. Not only was has his accounts in the Jones family company disappeared, the one in the Smiths was gone too.

Now his alibi was also gone? He was pissed. He had said that he did not have a hand in the actions of his mother and sister because he had moved on and was about to marry.
