MISTAKE 149
Chapter 149: Pregnant
Anya had just picked up her call. She placed the phone in her ear and answered irritably.
“What is it?” she asked, distracted when a vase smashed her way. And she let out a scream.
When Daniel had gotten to the office that morning, he was slightly distracted by her behavior that morning.
He recalled she had not eaten that morning and wanted to send her something, so he called her. When he heard her voice, Daniel realized that she was still irritated. But the next moment, she let out a loud scream, causing him to shoot to his feet.
“Anya. Anya, what is it?” He called, but there was already too much chaos on the other end for Anya to recall she was on the phone with someone.
“How dare you speak to me that way? If you are Mrs. Shaw, then I am Old Master Rhodes!” Mr. William started throwing things, and the guards had to step in and restrain him. The assistant head of human resources stepped in at that moment to take charge.
Anya was not hurt, but she suddenly felt dizzy and faint. The office became chaotic as the assistant head immediately called for an ambulance.
On the other end, Daniel was already in panic mode. His phone to his ear, he could hear
commotion on the other end; he heard someone say Anya had fainted and lost it. Fainted.
How? Who touched her? This was his territory. She was supposed to be safe.
What could have possibly happened while she was at work? How could she possibly get hurt in his own company? He walked out of his office in haste when his assistant hurried over to his
side.
“Sir, something happened in HR,” his assistant said to him.
“Not now,” he said, rushing towards the elevator
“They say the security guards were called and someone was injured and being sent to the hospital.” When he heard those words, he paused.
“Who was injured?” he asked, and his assistant was taken aback. Daniel had a feeling that Anya was the one injured. His secretary rushed over at that very moment.
“The security guards have restrained the head of HR, Mr. William. They say he attacked someone from our office. Could it be…” one of the secretaries, Sylvia said.
“Both of you, come with me,” he ordered and entered the elevator. Andro and Sylvia glanced at each other in the elevator.
They were not really the best at working together, but at this moment, they could probably communicate with their eyes.
They had never seen the boss this angry since he arrived at the branch. The two of them were assigned to him when he first arrived. And he has been cold at most.
They knew that whatever had happened, HR was going to be hot for a while. Andro got in the driver’s seat, and Sylvia sat beside him. Daniel sat in the back, as he did not think he was calm enough to drive at this moment. He was still calling Anya’s phone, but she was not picking up, making him more panicked as time passed.
“Find out what hospital they took the injured employee to. We are going there,” he instructed as Andro started the car and drove off. It did not take long for Sylvia to find out what hospital Anya was taken to. She relayed the information to Andro, and he made plans for that direction.
“Step on it,” Daniel said impatiently, and Andro increased their speed.

“Tell me what happened,” he instructed Sylvia, and she relayed a bit of what she knew while opening the company forum and passing her tablet to Daniel at the back.
The initial post was gone, but the comments were still there. Just listening to what Sylvia narrated and reading the forum, his face got darker. When he listened to the recording of Anya confronting Mr. William, his blood boiled. She heard what was said to her.
When Daniel got to the hospital, Anya was not in the emergency ward. He asked around and heard she had been transferred to obstetrics. What?
He hurried over. When he opened the door to the room, he found her staring at a picture in a daze.
He hurried to her side and checked that she was not injured.
“Baby, are you okay?” he asked, but she looked lost somewhat. This worried him. He looked to the doctor in the room.
The doctor, besides Anya, saw Daniel’s worry and gave a small smile.
“You must be her husband.”
“Yes. Is she alright?” Daniel asked.
“Congratulations. Your wife is pregnant,” the doctor said, and a smile filled with excitement and disbelief covered Daniel’s face. He carefully hugged Anya as though she would break and quickly left a message in the family group chat.
It was a picture of Anya’s ultrasound.
The family group chat exploded.

Daniel ignored the chaos and concentrated on Anya. She soon came out of her daze and liked Daniel.
“I am pregnant,” she said to him, and he nodded with a large smile. His smile was so infectious, she could not help but join.
“Let’s get married, baby,” Daniel said.
“We are already married,” Anya answered.
“For real this time. A big wedding just for you,” he said, and she nodded.
The early morning sunlight filtered through the heavy curtains of Anya’s dressing room, casting a warm glow on the chaos within. Bridesmaids mad up of Daniel’s family and Marcy fluttered about like butterflies, their chiffon dresses rustling as they attended to last–minute details.
The wedding had come so quickly. Like all weddings, a lot was going on, making the bride

In the center of it all stood Anya, a vision in white, her dark eyes wide with excitement and
nervousness.
She looked down at her flowers and complained about it for the hundredth time, like she had many other things. For some reason she was full of complaints today.
A combination of pregnancy hormones and the nerves of a bride on her wedding day made it hard for her to calm down.
“The flowers aren’t right,” she murmured, eyeing the bouquet with a critical gaze. “They’re

supposed to be blush, not pink.”
Her maid of honor, Marcy, rushed to her side. “Anya, darling, they’re perfect. You’re just nervous.”
“This isn’t nerves. I swear it is pink,” she said in a panic.
“It will look blushy in the pictures. I assure you. It is the nerves,” Marcy sighed. “You are always brave in everything. Why are you not brave now? You look like you will turn into a puddle,” Marcy said.
“Aren’t you always brave? I will see how brave you are when you and Justin marry,” Anya said
with a scoff.
“Marry? Why would I marry him?” Marcy said nervously.
“Why are you nervous? Is your heart making you blush at the thought?” she asked teasingly.
Marcy She adjusted her dress as though she did not hear, but when she turned, she met Justin’s dark eyes and froze. She swallowed and told Anya she would wait outside before
escaping.
Anya took a deep breath, willing her racing heart to slow. She’d survived attacks from rival families, dodged bullets, and navigated the treacherous waters of the mafia world since childhood, but nothing had prepared her for the rollercoaster of emotions that came with planning a wedding. Especially a Shaw wedding.
A soft knock at the door interrupted her spiraling thoughts. “Come in,” she called, smoothing down her dress with trembling hands.
The door opened to reveal Wendy, wearing a deep blue gown that accentuated her regal bearing. Her eyes softened as they landed on Anya, a smile playing at the corners of her lips.

“My dear,” Wendy said, hurrying over to Anya to have a better look. “You look absolutely stunning.”
