The Billionaire's Mistake (Anya and Daniel)

MISTAKE 127

Chapter 127: Robbing a bank

“Open that safe,” the President ordered. “I don’t care what methods you have to use. Just get

it done.”

“Yes, sir,” the voice responded, understanding the implied authorization for whatever means

necessary.

The president ended the call, letting the phone drop onto the bed beside him. The weight of the situation pressed down on him, heavier than the injuries that kept him in this hospital bed.

Years of careful planning and meticulous separation between his public persona and his role as the leader of the Dark Hand were now in jeopardy.

The fire was probably a warning from the Shaw family. Or was it to smoke him out? If so, it did it’s job. It had created a mountain of problems for him. They now knew who he was, and most of those who participated in the rescue knew too. He felt a headache descend on him. Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

Mercy and Justin’s escape was a wild card. Were they running out of fear, or did they already know about the fire? And now, with Mathias in Shaw’s custody, how long before the truth about the president’s dual identity came to light? The Shaw family was now his number one

enemy.

The president’s mind raced, considering everything and weighing the risks of various paths he could take. Fight head–on? No. This was the Shaw family. Would they attack again? Was he safe here?

He glanced at the security detail, their presence a reminder of the precarious balance between his two worlds. How many of them knew the truth? He knew some of them did. Their job was to protect him without questions. But for the other government agencies… How many would remain loyal if his criminal identity was exposed?

The beeping of the medical equipment seemed to grow louder, an irritating reminder of his current situation. The president had built his empire on always being one step ahead, on controlling every variable. Now, confined to this hospital bed, he felt that control slipping

away.

But he wasn’t out of the game yet. Far from it. As the leader of both a country and a powerful criminal organization, he had resources at his disposal that others could only dream of. It was time to mobilize those resources, to remind everyone why he had remained at the top long.

The president reached for the call button, summoning a nurse. He needed to expedite his recovery, to get out of this hospital and back into the field where he could directly manage crisis. As he waited for the nurse to arrive, his mind was already formulating plans, considering allies to call upon and enemies to neutralize.

The game had changed, the stakes raised to new heights. But the president had not come this far; he had not built his dual empires by backing down from a challenge. As the nurse entered the room, he fixed her with a determined stare.

“I need to speak with my doctors,” he said, his voice carrying the usual tone of a man who was used to being obeyed. “It’s time for me to leave this place.”

The nurse began to protest, citing medical concerns, but the president cut her off with a sharp gesture. “Now,” he insisted.

As the nurse hurried out to fetch the doctors, the president allowed himself a grim smile. The board was set, the pieces in motion. It was time to remind everyone why he was the most dangerous player in this game.

As for the Shaw family, he knew that the fire had been just the beginning.

What came next would determine the fate of not just the Dark Hand but potentially the entire country. And the president had no intention of losing.

The night was pitch black, a new moon offering no light as four figures crouched in the shadows beside the imposing structure of the notorious Mafia Bank.

The only sound that could be heard was the faint hum of distant traffic and the occasional rustle of leaves picked up by wind.

“Alright, team,” whispered Jack, the leader of the group. “Let’s go over the plan one last time. Mia, you’re on tech. Disable the alarms and get us inside.”

Mia nodded, her fingers dancing over a tablet. “Got it, boss. Their security system is good, but

I’m better.”

“Leo, you’re our eyes and ears. Keep watch and alert us to any potential issues.

A tall, lean man gave a thumbs up. “Consider it done. Nobody’s sneaking up o

pon us tonight.

“And Rico, you’re with me. We’re heading straight for the vault.”

Rico, a stocky man with calloused hands, grinned. “Time to put these magic fingers to work, eh?”

Jack nodded, his expression serious. “Remember, we’re here for one thing only. Safe deposit box 1294. Nothing else matters. We get in, we get out. Clean and quick.”

“Mia, how’re we looking?” Jack asked, turning to the tech expert.

Mia’s face was illuminated by the soft glow of her tablet. “Almost there…. and…. we’re in. Alarms are looped. Security cameras are on a feed from last week. We’re ghosts.”

“Perfect,” Jack said, “Leo, take position. The rest of you, with me.”

The team moved swiftly and silently, their dark dothes blending into the shadows. Mia worked her magic on the electronic lock of the side entrance, and within moments, they were Inside the bank.

The interior was eerily quiet, the usual noise of daytime activity replaced by a just silence. Their footsteps, despite their best efforts, seemed to echo loudly in the empty space.

“Rico,” Jack whispered, “how long do you think it’ll take to crack the vault?”

Rico shrugged, his voice low. “Depends on the model. Could be ten minutes, could be an hour. Won’t know till I see it.”

They made their way through the bank, past the teller windows and offices, towards the back where the vault was located. As they rounded a corner, they came face to face with the massive steel door of the bank’s main vault.

“Holy sh*t,” Mia breathed. “That’s a Titan X9000. Top of the line. It is not a Mafia bank for nothing.”

Rico whistled low. “This might take a while, boss. This baby’s got more security features than Fort Knox.”

Jack checked his watch. “We’ve got two hours before the early shift starts arriving. Make it happen, Rico.”

Rico cracked his knuckles and got to work, his ear pressed against the vault door as he délicately manipulated the dial. The others watched in tense silence, every minute feeling like an eternity.

After what seemed like hours but was only forty–five minutes, there was a faint click. Rico’s

face split into a wide grin. “We’re in, baby!”

“Great work,” Jack said, clapping Rico on the shoulder. “Mia, keep an eye on the security systems. Leo, any movement outside?”

Leo’s voice crackled through their earpieces. “All clear out here, boss. Quiet as a graveyard.”

The team entered the vault, their flashlights sweeping across rows upon rows of safe deposit

boxes.

“Alright,” Jack said, “let’s find 1294. Rico, you take the left side; I’ll take the right. Mia, watch our backs.”

They moved quickly, their eyes scanning the numbers on each box.

“1290… 1291… 1292…“. Rico muttered.

“1293…” Jack called out. “Got it! 1294, right here”

The team gathered around the safe deposit box. It was larger than the others, taking up the space of two standard boxes.

“This is going to be trickier than the vault,” Rico said, examining the lock. “It’s got a biometric scanner and what looks like a voice recognition system.”

Mia frowned. “I might be able to bypass the biometrics, but voice recognition? That’s a whole other ballgame.”

Jack’s jaw tightened. “We don’t have a choice. We need to get into this box. Whatever it takes.” They had their orders. There was no way they were leaving here without being in that safe.
