Chapter 113: Catching a mouse
“Are you saying I am in trouble?!” she asked in panic. What did he mean by dealing with her?
She is not one of them.
“If you had walked in here today and I felt for one moment that you were just trying to exploit me for whatever reason, if I had felt you had an ulterior motive, I would have let you go. After all, you would have been dead the moment you walked out of here,” he said, and she felt a chill run down her spine.
Hazel did not know this man long,
But she had the feeling that he was not the kind of person to say useless things. Her instinct told her that if she had not explained herself well, she would have died the moment she walked out of the hospital.
“The bad people have surrounded the hospital. They probably could not follow you yesterday or they could not confirm that you were telling the truth, so they were waiting till I woke up and you would come to me. By claiming to be my wife, you redirected my enemies to stare at you for at least one night. So of course I can’t be ungrateful and let you go out there,” he said, and she was not sure if she should be grateful or not. He had saved her life, but she was bothered by the fact that she placed a target on her back because of him.
“Who are you?” she finally gained the courage to ask.
“Is this what you are most interested to know?” He asked, and she nodded.
“Not who are the ones who want to harm you?”
“No. If there is one, there will probably be two. It will depend on who you are, right?” she asked, and he smiled.
“I am Mathias Giorgio, a small businessman, you?” he asked, and she almost cursed out loud.
If you are a small businessman, then I am the pope, she thought.

“1…” She opened her mouth but wondered if she should be offering her information to him. He could tell what she was thinking without her needing to utter a word.
“Hazel, Hazel,” she answered, and a small smile made its way onto his face. He did not like stupid women. She weighed her options and came to the right decision. It was best to give him some information than let him go searching.
“Then Hazel, you will come visit me after your work tomorrow, won’t you? When do you get off?” he asked.
“I should be done by five,” she said in a small voice.
“Don’t be scared. You saved my life. I will not let anything happen to you.
His words were not reassuring. She was in over her head.
“I will get you out of this and off on your way back to your life in no time. It is the least I can do to save my life. You will have to stay my wife for a while longer, though,” he said and waited for her agreement.
Hazel knew he was waiting for her to agree, but she hesitated. Nothing about this was good, but did she have a choice? He had already decided. If she refused, wouldn’t he just let her go out to her death? She swallowed and gave a small nod. He proceeded to gesture to his phone on the side table next to her.
“Place your contact inside,” he said, and she picked up his phone, but it was locked.
“The password is 6690. It’s my birthday,” he said, and she froze. He watched her fear rise, noticing the slight trembling of her hands. She wondered if he was threatening her. What did he mean by this? He was sharing the password with his phone when he had just said he would return her to a normal life. If he revealed such information regularly, would she dare return to her normal life with what she knew? Was he warning her not to pry?
“There is no need for me to know this, right?” she asked.
“How can my wife not know the password to my phone?” he asked.
He was building trust. He wanted her to believe him. If she was Anya’s sister, then she knew Anya’s mother. The one Daniel had said had taken whatever was in that safe.
“There is no need,” she rejected.
“But we just married; I must show my sincerity,” he said, and she could not restrain her expression and sent him a dirty look.
“Please, Mr. Giorgio…” she began to say.
“Mathias. My wife should at least call me by name, right?”
“Will there be a need for me to pretend in front of people?” She could not help being sidetracked to ask.
“It’s just a name, and you don’t want to be caught calling me so respectfully when you said you are my wife, right?” He asked, and she nodded.
“Mathias,” she said, and his fingers holding the newspaper twitched. He somewhat liked the way his name sounded when she said, “I will stay out of your business and respect your privacy. She said and passed the phone to him, but he only stared at her hands but did not take it.
“It doesn’t matter. It is not a work phone. The password is correct,” he insisted, and she unlocked the phone after a moment of hesitation
“Dial your number so that you take mine while you are at it. You may never know when you need to contact me,” he said, and she doubted she would need it but did as told, then she
placed the phone back.
“I am going to have some of the men send you back. I will have them pick you up after work. I should have figured something out by the time you are back,” he said, and she nodded and got
1. up.
She walked to the door and opened it to find the army of men outside still there. This time, they did not block her path.
They were instead quite respectful. Yet Hazel was overwhelmed by their presence and tried to calm herself. She waited for the man inside the room to give instructions.
“Have some men send your madam to work,” he instructed, and they obeyed.
“This way, Madam,” someone stepped forward to lead her out. Hazel threw him a glance behind her before leaving with six of his men.
The tires of a private jet kicked up twin rooster tails of gravel as it decelerated on the private landing strip adjoining the main Shaw estate. He was back in the capital city.
Daniel didn’t even wait for the helicopter to come to a complete stop before he was shoving open the exit hatch and descending the reinforced stair ramp in a blur of his dark coat. NôvelDrama.Org © content.
A sleek black SUV idled nearby, Jerry emerging from the driver’s side in a crisp suit and wraparound shades.
He was talking to a few men, giving instructions as Daniel stormed past him towards the SUV ahead without so much as a glance.

“Home as fast as science will allow,” Daniel growled, not bothering with any preamble.
His bodyguard accepted the order, sparing a momentary glance in Jerry’s direction as the tall man emerged behind them, walking over with a tablet in hand.
The stoic bodyguard merely shook his head once before falling into step behind Daniel.
Daniel’s steps were fast and crisp, and Jerry remained glued to the screen of the tablet.
Daniel’s piercing stared bored straight ahead, unblinking, his mind replaying all that had happened in Angelo City in an endless loop,
He was still not satisfied.
Mathias Giorgio had escaped and they could not find him.
At this moment, he was walking over to the SUV parked a bit away when the communication
units had cracked to life. He could hear someone complaining.
