The Beta’s Regret

Chapter 254

(Eden's Pov)

"She's back!" I heard a young man call out as he hurried into my tent. Hands on his knees, he bent a little and took a moment to catch his breath before he continued, pointing a hand furiously at the entrance.

I frowned and took a step forward. "Tell me, what is going on?"

"Betsy is back. She just came in." He said.

My eyes widened in surprise.

"Did she come with anyone else?" I asked.

The young man shook his head. "She came alone, with nothing else."

I frowned. It was obvious Betsy had no idea that her disappearance was no longer a secret. If she knew, this would have been the last place she would return to.

I nodded. "Thank you."

"You need to summon her." Gordon, one of the representatives, said quickly. "For all we know, she must have brought a spy along with her, or she might very well be the spy. I suggest she should be killed as a traitor." The rest of the men agreed with his reasoning. I thought about it for a moment.

They were right. Betsy needed to be questioned. We needed to know exactly where she went and what she had done, but I also knew that if we did that, Pison might get to know about it.

""No." I answered the men.

That wasn't necessary. We need her as much as Pison does. If she is the only way Pison can get to us, then she is also the only way we can get to him.

I turned to the young man who had delivered the message. "I need you to do something for me."

"Yes, my Queen." The young man bowed slightly. "What do you need me to do?"

"Watch her every move. We are not sure what Betsy went out of the camp to do, but we should always be on alert." I said.

It was obvious the men were not content with my request. Some of them grunted their disapproval, while others merely looked on.

"Yes, my queen," the young man replied and moved out.

I turned back to the twenty representatives. Nine women and eleven men in total.

"Do you think that was the right thing to do?" Gordon spoke out again.

I nodded. "We shouldn't rush into action just yet."

Gordon sighed. "Betsy left the camp. How do we know where she went? Who did she meet with? Dain is in the palace, and there was no way she would have escaped without getting captured by Pison and his men. "That is precisely why I asked that we watch her." I said.

Gordon nodded.noveldrama

"So what should we do next? How do we know we are safe from Pison? Does that mean we have to run away from this camp again?" Hilda, a female member, asked.

"No. We are not running away. Instead, we will train." I said with a firm gaze.

"Train?" They chorused.

""Yes," I said.

"Most of the warriors have been captured, and the ones that are here are injured. I doubt they would be able to fight off Pison and his army of rogues." Gordon said.

I raised my chin. "This fight is for everyone. Every man, woman, and child in this camp must learn how to fight. We are short of warriors, and we need everyone we can get."

en

"It is the duty of the men to protect the women and children. They know nothing of warfare." Gordon said quickly.

"Then we teach them. No woman or child will be left indefensible." I replied.

A silence stretched in the room before Hilda spoke up. "I will gather the women and children."

Gordon sighed. "And I will gather the warriors so they can train them."

I nodded.

As they came to an agreement, the representatives filed out of the tent one after the other.

That went easier than I expected. Before now, I assumed the representatives would refuse to agree to my suggestions. So it wasn't so bad.

The next few days were spent in

training. With the start of a new day, came the tension of an impending attack. The fear of Pison loomed in the air, and it was almost impossible to feel liberated.

The training was going well. The women adapted quickly, to the surprise of the warriors. Even the children learned what they could.

I was no exception. My father took it upon himself to train me personally.

And at the moment, I was beginning to think it was more difficult than I imagined it would be.

"Stand up. You should always stay focused." he said, his brows fixed in a tight frown, looking down at me as I stayed seated on the floor, still recovering from his attack.

"I don't think I can do this!" I cried out. Tears pricked my eyes as I felt the frustration of learning to fight eat me up.

Lord Shevek and I have been going at this for days, and I felt I wasn't getting better at it.

He pursed his lips. "Yes, you can. You should never give up.

I sighed as he helped me up from the ground; I wiped the dust off the bottom of my pants as I repositioned myself, my sword held in front of me like a shield.

Lord Shevek mirrored my movements, and I dived at him. He blocked my attack in one move, our swords clashing against each other quickly.

Finally, we were up against each

other, face to face over the edge of

our swords, trying to see who would surrender. Muscles bulged and sweat trickled down our foreheads

as we stared hard at each other.

With one last push, Lord Shevek forced my sword out of the way, and it fell to the floor. I groaned in frustration, but I refused to give up.

My claws extended, and I shifted into my hybrid wolf. The minute I let Tiara out, she exuded a dominant aura. She snarled and bared her fangs at Lord Shevek, who didn't cower. Instead, he threw his sword to the side and bowed slightly, then lifted his eyes and stared Tiara straight in the eyes.

"My Queen," he said.

This was the first time Lord Shevek would meet Tiara, and she felt pleased at his reaction.

I felt the respect Tiara suddenly had for his bravery. I was still reeling in the satisfaction of his reaction when a sharp pain ravaged me in my guts.

Tiara dropped to the ground with a loud howl. Suddenly we had a vision, like a flash. An image of someone buried in ice trying to escape.

Another flash, and I saw blue sapphire eyes very much like-

Eros.

Tiara growled and opened her eyes.

Eros is alive!
