Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Letitia jolted awake from her dream.
Blinking sleepily, she gazed at Elgin and mumbled, “What’s… what’s going on?”
She couldn’t remembe: she had done anything.
Did she accidentally wake him by talking in her sleep, or did she go sleepwalking?
Elgin’s face was getting darker by the second, and Letitia shrank back. “I told you I shouldn’t be crashing here. Sorry, I’m leaving right away”
She quickly bent down, scooped up her pillow and blanket, and made a beeline for the door
Little did she know that her tousled hair and just-woke-up vibe were irresistible allure to him
Before she could get far, Elgin yanked her into his embrace. “Are you playing the seductress all day to reel me in? Fine, I’ll play along!”
“I mph…”
Elgin’s lips came crashing down
Letitia was scared silly with her mouth unwittingly agape..
He sneered, “Oh are you that much eager, huh?”
It snapped Letitia back to reality, and she tried to clamp her lips shut. But Elgin pinched her chin so hard it made her wince, which seemed like an invitation to his kiss.
How could she be kissing Elgin? They were enemies!
“I wouldn’t touch you even if you stripped naked in front of me,” Elgin said icily, biting her lip so hard that it bled. “Letitia, you’re nothing but a toy to me. You disgust me!”
The blood trickled down, landing on the back of her hand.
Letitia didn’t understand his rage. All she could do was stand there with her head down, devoid of the right to resist
Elgin looked at her and felt even more irritated. “Get the hell out.”
After a few steps, she heard Elgin command, “Don’t wander far!”
As a result, Letitia slept right outside his bedroom door that night.
She didn’t dare sleep deeply, fearing she might tick Elgin off again, so she spent the night in a half- awake daze until dawn.
At around eight, Letitia heard footsteps inside. She immediately got up and stood at attention.
The door opened, and Elgin glanced at her.
“Morning, uh… Mr. Ramirez,” she quickly greeted
Seeing her looking as fresh as a daisy pissed him off even more because he didn’t catch a wink last night!
His voice was ice-cold. “A lowlife has a lowlife’s fate, suited only for sleeping by the door”
Letitia ventured. “So I’ll just bunk here from now on?”
“Of course!”
She breathed a sigh of relief. In her mind, sleeping outside was way better than under Elgin’s bed!
Seeing her relaxed expression made Elgin’s blood boil even more fiercely
Come to the office with me, he ordered, “Don’t even think about slacking off at home!”
“Understood
After breakfast, Elgin got into his Rolls-Royce and zoomed off.
Letitia, on the other hand, walked to the Ramirez Group.
By the time she arrived, it was past ten in the morning. The CEO’s office was bustling but eerily quiet, strangely quiet.
“Ranen,” Letitia whispered, “Is there anything I can help with?”
Elgin would blow his top if he found out she was loafing around. She thought it was better to find some work to do.
In the whole company, only Ranen knew she was Mrs. Ramirez
“Uh… Mr. Ramirez hasn’t given any orders yet, Ranen said, glancing toward the office, “He’s like a bear with a sore head today and has already sent three directors packing. I think he didn’t sleep well. Or, maybe you could get him a black coffee”
“Alright.”
After a while, Letitia grabbed the coffee, sparking an idea.
She decided to purchase some herbal medicines and make some scented candles to aid his sleep.
Then Letitia returned to the CEO’s office.
She knocked, and Elgin’s irritable voice barked, “Come in!”
Inside, two company execs were getting an earful, looking like they’d been chewed up and spat out.
On the floor lay the wreckage of a shattered mug.
“It’s been two weeks, and this is the marketing plan you’ve come up with?” Elgin tossed the report, the papers fluttering down. “I’ll give you another five days. If you can’t cut it, quit!”
“Yes.. uh, Mr. Ramirez.”
Elgin leaned back in his chair, massaging his temples with a heavy sigh.
Getting more worked up by the minute, he swept everything off his desk in one go.
Letitia had just gathered the broken pieces when a hefty folder came crashing down, landing on her hand and leaving her palm sliced open immediately.
“Ouch…”
Hearing her, Elgin paused, remembering Letitia had just come in. He stood up, only then noticing her crouching on the floor.
Letitia hid her injured hand behind her. “I brought you coffee,” she said.
Elgin frowned.
Letitia pulled out a scented candle from her pocket “And… this.”
“What’s this?” He examined it with disdain. “Smelly as sin.”
“It’s a scented candle I got for you to sleep better, Letitia explained, “Keep it on your night table, and it might give your
sweet dreams.”
Elgin chucked it straight into the trash. “Superfluous.” In his view, Letitia was mocking him for his insomnia.
She was messing with his head, which was not a good sign.
Letitia sighed inwardly, “Too bad.” Her dad had told her how to improve her sleep with scented candles, which would work wonders
She hoped Elgin would get some decent sleep so his mood might improve and stop everyone from walking on eggshells.
“You could give it a shot, she mustered the courage to continue, “for your sleep.
“Get out! He didn’t appreciate her good intentions at all
After Letitia left, Elgin’s gaze lingered on the few blood drops on the floor She was hurt
His eyes then drifted to the discarded scented candle in the trash can
A few seconds later, Elgin picked up the phone. “Have you found out who that woman was that night?”
“We’re on it. Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
“Idiots! Speed it up!” he barked. “Find her at any cost!”
“Yes, yes, Mr. Ramirez We’ve narrowed down the suspects We’re venfying and investigating!”
Elgin slammed down the phone
He had to find that woman fast or keeping Letitia around was asking for trouble! She was a siren, a natural at luring
men in!
Letitia clenched her injured palm and didn’t reveal the wound unless she was alone
The cut had stopped bleeding but needed cleaning and medicine, or it would get infected.
But she was out of cash to buy any medicine
She had spent all her cash on a scented candle, and Elgin just tossed it aside without a care.
She must figure out a way to rake in some dough
Letitia decided to hunt for some temp work nearby, which beat being a spare wheel at the Ramirez Group and getting in Elgin’s hair And if Elgin came looking for her, she could book it back in a flash.
Mind made up, Letitia hit the ground running
Bingo! The restaurant across the street was hiring dishwashers paid by the hour
She went to the front desk. “Excuse me, I was wondering if you still need dishwashers…
Before she could finish, two voices piped up at the same time.
“Isn’t that the cleaning lady?”
“Oh, look! Isn’t that the high and mighty Mrs. Ramirez!”
