Chapter 29
Chapter 29
She knew that emerald bracelet like the back of her hand.
It had been on her mother Malinda’s wrist since she could remember, an heirloom from her grandma.
Malinda had said that when Letitia tied the knot, the bracelet would be hers
But then the Sanders family hit rock bottom, and every valuable thing in the house got hawked.
She never expected to see that emerald bracelet again today.
“Starting bid, two hundred thousand. May the highest bidder take it!”
Two hundred thousand! As if Letitia had that kind of money! And the crowd, all wealthy, barely gave a damn about the emerald bracelet
Then, out of the blue, a soft female voice piped up. “I bid two hundred thousand.”
Heads swiveled to the owner of the voice.
There was Letitia, holding up her bid number, resolute as ever.
“You? Do you even have the cash?” Shela sneered, spotting her, “You couldn’t cough up two thousand, let alone two
million!”
The room erupted in laughter, and Letitia bit her
lip. She was broke, but she couldn’t just stand by and watch the emerald bracelet go to someone else.
Shela blurted out loud, “Mr. Auctioneer, ignore her, she’s just stirring the pot!”
Letitia slowly lowered her bidding sign.
Sorry, Mom, I’ve failed you, couldn’t keep safe your beloved bracelet.
Elgin watched Letitia thoughtfully
Just then, Walden chimed in, “Three hundred thousand.”
At that voice, Letitia’s head snapped up. He recognized it, too!
Walden gave her a slight smile, a reassuring look. He’d buy it and then give it to her.
The auctioneer nodded, “Alright, Mr. Sullivan bids three hundred thousand. Any advance on that?”
“What’s the deal, Shela muttered, “is there something special about that emerald bracelet that everyone’s after it….”
Elgin quipped, “You want it?”
Actually, Shela wasn’t into this bracelet, but then she thought, if Letitia was dying to have it, she couldn’t let her have it.
“I do!” Shela said, “Mr. Ramirez, can you buy it for me?”
Elgin’s lips curled up as he raised his bidding sign- “One million.”
The bid skyrocketed, sparking a buzz throughout the crowd.
“Mr. Ramirez is in the game?”
“What’s so special about this bracelet?”
“Who’d dare to outbid Mr. Ramirez? Got a death wish?”
“That bracelet’s worth, at most, five hundred thousand
Eigins expression was unreadable, but his intentions were clear-he had to have that bracelet!
“Gre milon the auctioneer was taken aback, “Now, Mr. Ramirez has bid one million
Letitia felt a wave of despair
way
Letitia, hitching up her skirt, walked up to Elgin, “Why do you want it?”
“It’s none of your business why I buy anything”

Elgin’s eyebrows quirked. “So what if it is, or isn’t?” Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“There’ll be plenty more good stuff, the emerald bracelet’s just the first Letitia said, softening her tone, “no need to waste your money”
Elgin glanced at her replying icily, “I’m loaded”
Letitia was speechless
“You here to make a scene again?” Shela pushed Letitia aside, “Mr. Ramirez giving me a gift is none of your business!”
“Shela, you don’t deserve that emerald bracelet!”
Shela was about to retort when Elgin asked coolly. “Letitia, is this bracelet important to you?”
She rarely lost her composure, always seemed to let things slide, but now she was visibly worked up
“Yes” Letitia admitted. “It belonged to my mother
Her voice choked up
see Elgin said. “Then I have even more reason to buy it.”
Letitia clenched her dress palms sweating. Once he had it, there was no chance he’d give it to her. Because he despised the Sanders family so much….
“Ainight, Letitia nodded, “It’s your call to buy, but please, don’t give it to Shela, okay?”
He scoffed. “I do with it as I please!”
Letitia was crushed
“One million for the first time, one million for the second,” the auctioneer announced, “Any higher bids?”
Walden raised his sign, “One and a half million.”
Elgin continued, “Two million
Walden was about to bid again, but Letitia shook her head at him
It’s lost cause, he could never beat Elgin
Walden was frustrated he knew too well how much that emerald bracelet meant to Letitia.
But then, his phone buzzed with a message. “Don’t you dare cross Mr Ramirez! I’ve just frozen your bank account!”
It was from the Sullivan family
“Soid, for two million!” the auctioneer hammered down, “Congratulations, Mr. Ramirez!”
Shela was grinning from ear to ear. She figured tomorrow’s headlines would be all about Mr. Ramirez spending a cool Two mil on the emerald bracelet to make her smile!
A hostess carefully brought over the emerald bracelet.
Letitia closed her eyes and walked away.
What was the point of staying? To watch Elgin slip the bracelet onto Shela’s wrist?
could only retreat somewhere private and have a good cry
Aftax crying her eyes out, she’d have to pretend nothing happened, can’t let them see her tears

Elgin casually grabbed it and glanced at it.
Shela joyfully lifted her hand, waiting for Elgin to put it on her himself..
With a clank, Elgin chucked the emerald bracelet back onto the tray like he was tossing a rock, clearly not giving a
damn.
Shela was stunned, “Mr Pamirez
Take it to Ivory Towers, lock it up in the safe
“Yes, Mr. Pamirez
“Hey, that’s mine! Shela didn’t get what was happening. Mr. Ramirez, you bought it for me, why take it back home?”
“Did I ever say it was for you?
Shela was dumbfounded
It seemed Elgin never actually promised it was for her.
He only said he would buy it, never said he’d buy it for her.
Seeing Elgin’s mood was off, Shela wisely didn’t press the issue.
No wares, she’d find a way to get it from him later!
In the restroom.
Letitia leaned against the wall, head tilted back, trying not to let the tears ruin her makeup.
After composing herself, Letitia stepped out only to find Walden waiting for her..
“Here He handed her a tissue.
Thanks
“I can’t take it Walden said quiltily. Elgin still ended up buying the emerald bracelet
Letitia hung her head, “Wasn’t that expected?”
“Letitia, no matter what, he’s your husband, he should.
“You know how much Elgin hates the Sanders family.”
