Chapter 27
Chapter 27
Never one to miss a chance to belittle Letitia, Shela tossed out a derogatory comment and then slyly checked Elgin’s reaction. The look on his face suggested that Letitia and the gentleman she was with were more than just passing acquaintances.
Elgin looked away and walked past Letitia into the venue without giving her another glance.
“Letitia,” Walden began, “How can he show up with another woman and leave you out here?”
“It’s my business, not yours.”
“No! I’m going to confront him!
“Walden!” Letitia grabbed him, “Don’t make a scene! I’m fine, let’s just go inside.”
Walden couldn’t believe her, “Letitia, how can you stand Elgin doing this to you?”
She smiled, “I’ve got no right to be angry, so there’s nothing to tolerate”
Walden looked at her with pity
“Alright,” she said, “Don’t offend Elgin on my account; it won’t do you any favors.”
To make Walden give up, she added, “And it won’t move me either.”
Elgin was already sensitive about her past with Walden, and now, with her as the head designer at the Ramirez Group Jewelry Department and Walden as the general manager of the Sullivan Group Sunbeam Gems, they were competitors! Inside the venue, everyone was sipping champagne, laughter filled the room.
Letitia found a corner and focused on the desserts on the table.
Elgin was the center of attention, surrounded by people eager to suck up to him.
“Mr. Ramirez, is this Mrs. Ramirez?” someone inquired.
Elgin didn’t bother to clarify. Shela wasn’t yet, but she might be in the future
“The title isn’t that important, Shela responded, “what matters is that I’m the one by Elgin’s side right now.”
The savvy crowd got the hint. So, this woman wasn’t Mrs. Ramirez, but her status was even higher, able to be his plus-one at the event! So they began to flatter Shela-
“Ms. Ward, you look so amazing today!”
“You’re a perfect match with Mr. Ramirez.”
“Ms. Ward, you should join our ladies’ gatherings more often.”
Shela was over the moon, loving the limelight.
Those directors and producers who’d snubbed her before were now falling over themselves to kiss up to her!
Elgin frowned slightly, he never liked these kinds of events..
His gaze briskly swept the room, before instinctively finding Letitia. From a distance, he quietly observed her. Even a simple dress couldn’t hide her shapely figure, she seemed to glow even in the corner.
Letitia was savoring a cupcake, eating it slowly with a spoon.
Feeling the intense gaze, she turned around, Elgin quickly looked away
Letitia didn’t notice that, but Shela did
“Mr. Ramirez, I’m going to the restroom, she suddenly said, “I’ll be right back.”
“Okay.”
Leaving Elgin’s side, Shela made a beeline for Letitia. She deliberately stood right behind Letitia without making a peep.
Totally oblivious to Shela lurking behind her, Letitia spun around with a cake in hand, and-bam!-she bumped right into
The cake took a dive, and frosting got all over Shela’s dress.
“Gosh!” Shela shrieked, “My dress, it cost a pretty penny!”
Letitia was still in the dark about what just happened when Shela went off again, “You did that on purpose, didn’t you? You’re just green with envy! What now? The party’s just started, and can you even afford to pay for my dress?” ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
She made such a ruckus that people nearby started crowding around.
Of course, they took her side-after all, she was Mr. Ramirez’s date. As for Letitia, who the heck knew her!
“It was you who stood behind me silent as a shadow-I didn’t even see you there. Stop blaming everything on me!” Letitia fired back.
“You ruin my dress and now you’re flipping the script on me?”
Letitia wasn’t in the mood for a tangle, so she whipped out a tissue, “Here, I’ll clean it.”
That’s not gonna cut it!” Shela snapped, “Now, take off your dress and give it to me!”
