Winston froze momentarily. With a frown, he turned to look in the direction Millie had gone. So she had actually asked Paxton out for a meal?
Winston then responded to Paxton’s text, “Decline.”
Paxton immediately wrote back, “Uncle Winston, she said she just wants to thank me for the Aspher. She doesn’t have any other motives.”
Winston didn’t reply. In no time, Paxton asked again, “Should I go?‘
Winston was about to text him back when Joanna grabbed his hand, smiling as she asked, “What are you looking at?”
Shaking his head, Winston locked his phone screen.
Joanna grinned from ear to ear and suggested, “Win, let’s go grab a bite together.”
“Okay.” Winston nodded.
After paying, they left the mall.
On the drive to the restaurant, Paxton sent another message. “I couldn’t turn down the invitation, so I’m going. Don’t worry, Uncle Winston. I won’t mess it up by mentioning that the Aspher was from you.”
Winston read the text but remained silent. If Paxton wanted to go, so be it. He had faith in his nephew’s ability to handle the situation.
He simply didn’t want Millie to know the Aspher was from him, fearing she might refuse to accept it due to her stubborn nature.
The car soon pulled up outside a Chulesian restaurant.
Joanna was scrolling through her phone and suddenly asked, “Win, do you still have the Aspher?” Winston glanced at her indifferently. “What?”
As they entered the restaurant, Joanna showed him a photo and explained, “I just saw a news article about a lab getting the Aspher. So, the Aspher is still useful after all, and you sent it to a research lab?” With a hint of pride, she added, “Does this mean
we’re contributing to the research project?”
It dawned on Winston that Millie had wanted the Aspher because a research lab required it. He hummed In response, while his gaze darkened slightly.
The server led them to the second floor of the restaurant. The second floor was a private dining area separated by screens. The restaurant’s interior was peaceful and elegant, evoking the quiet ambiance of a library.
Just as Winston and Joanna were about to settle into their seats, the elevator doors opened. In the next second, two familiar figures appeared.
“It’s Millie,” Joanna muttered. She felt a mix of surprise and displeasure.
At the sound of Joanna’s voice, Millie’s head snapped up immediately. She couldn’t believe her luck. How was it possible to bump into Winston and Joanna even while just eating out?
She remembered thinking Yerwick felt so large that meeting someone she liked was nearly impossible. But now, it felt like the city had shrunk. She kept running into the people she’d rather avoid. It was as if she were under some sort of curse.
Paxton spotted Winston, too. He wanted to greet him. However, a thought crossed his mind, and he chose to stay silent.
Since Winston was present, Paxton figured he’d catch everything Millie said, making him part of the conversation.
Winston pressed his lips together and pretended he didn’t know them. Instead, he lowered his head to focus on his phone.
On the other hand, Millie didn’t bother to greet him either. After all, they had already seen each other in the store earlier.
Millie and Paxton walked over to a small table in the front. She then passed the menu to him and gently expressed her gratitude.
“Paxton, thank you for agreeing to provide the Aspher. Everyone in our lab is very grateful. They specifically asked me to invite you out for a meal to thank you in person.”
Joanna was curious about their conversation and instinctively turned to look at them. She vaguely heard something about the Aspher but wasn’t entirely sure. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
Wasn’t there only one Aspher? Shouldn’t it be in Winston’s possession?
