In the following days, Joanna refrained from stirring up more trouble and stayed on track with her treatment. Winston visited her daily, while Millie continued to work as usual.

Every day, Millie would come home to hear Terrence grumbling about Kennedy’s shipment. The whole circle was buzzing with talk about how Winston was putting Kennedy in his place and targeting him.

Faced with such aggression, Kennedy knew he had no choice but to fight back.

At a dinner gathering, Millie went to pick up her drunk father. As soon as she entered the private room, she noticed a few familiar faces.

“Millie, you’re here.” A senior figure waved at her.

Millie nodded in acknowledgment and glanced at the others. Winston, Jake, and the recently popular Kennedy were all there. Seeing them all at the same table caught her by surprise.

“I’m here to take my father home. He’s had a bit too much to drink,” Millie explained with a gracious smile.

It was early October, so the mornings and evenings in Yerwick City were chilly. Millie wore a white dress paired with a long cardigan. Her hair was casually gathered up with a claw clip, and she wore

white flats.

She exuded a delicate grace through her outfit, radiating a beauty that was hard to describe. Her presence also eased the tension in the room.

“I’m not drunk, Mills.” Terrence’s face was flushed from the alcohol, yet he grabbed Millie’s arm and insisted, “Let me chat a little longer, and then we’ll leave.”

Millie pursed her lips and glanced awkwardly at the other senior figures present. “I’d better take my father home. Please, carry on.”

Having said that, she tried to pull Terrence to his feet. Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.

Mille’s body trembled as Terrence’s weight pressed down on her. Winston frowned upon seeing that and moved his hand slightly, clearly thinking of offering help.

“Sorry about this,” Millie apologized. She bowed slightly while struggling to support Terrence.

Winston kicked Jake and signaled him with his eyes. But just as Jake was about to stand, Kennedy had already risen. He then approached Millie, lightly saying, “Ms. Caldwell, let me help you take Mr. Caldwell home.”

Millie lifted her head and met Kennedy’s dark eyes. Without waiting for her response, he took hold of Terrence’s arm and guided him out of the private room.

Millie pressed her lips together, nodded to the others, and quickly followed them out.

Winston frowned slightly as he watched the two leave. Immediately afterward, he shot a sharp look at

Jake, frustrated by his slowness.

“Why is Kennedy so keen on currying favor with the Caldwells?” asked Jake. He had already noticed it during the meal.

“No idea,” Winston replied flatly.

After saying that, he fell silent and walked to the floor–to–ceiling window. He soon saw Kennedy helping Terrence to Millie’s car.

She drove her purple Pagani everywhere, and it was as eye–catching as she was–bold and impossible

to miss.

With his hands in his pockets, Winston watched as Kennedy assisted Terrence into the car. Following that, Millie and Kennedy exchanged a few words.

The corners of her mouth curled into a gentle smile, leaving Winston curious about their conversation. Kennedy then stepped back, while Millie quickly got into her car and drove away with Terrence.

He stood rooted to the spot, watching Millie’s car until it disappeared from view. As soon as he looked up, he spotted Winston standing by the window.

Their eyes locked, and the air between them immediately grew tense. It was as if their gazes carried a hidden threat.

Winston swallowed hard, his hands tightening into fists in his pockets. What was Kennedy’s true intention in getting close to the Caldwell family?

A while later, Winston turned and left the private room.

At the same time, Kennedy had just arrived upstairs, only to find Winston blocking the elevator doors. He smiled and remarked, “I offered to drive your ex–wife and father–in–law home, but she declined.”
