Chapter 86
Chapter 86
Auditou’s POV
The platform buzzed with activity as we waited for the train to be fully equipped to leave for Jacob’s pack, with the early morning sun casting a golden glow over the bustling crowd.
I stood amidst our group, feeling a mixture of anticipation and determination coursing through me as I surveyed the scene before us
Sawyer, Hunt, and the other men we had selected to accompany us stood nearby, their expressions a mix of excitement and uncertainty as they prepared to embark on this new journey to visit the pack that they could potentially be agreeing to relocate to.
Ruth stood with Rose and Lydia a few feet away, her gaze fixed on the tracks ahead as she exchanged quiet words with them – as they laughed and smiled together.
Ruth had agreed to check the place out, before breaking the news to her family about possible moving up North. The only one she had told so far was Jonno, who also stood here preparing to go with her. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Beside me, Hunt and Sawyer stood, as they watched the scene unfold. Despite the early hour, they both radiated a sense of quiet resolve, their determination to see this through evident in the set of their jaws and the steely glint in their eyes.
“Are you sure you’re up for this, Rose?” I approach and ask her softly, glancing down at her growing bump with concern etched across my features. “We can wait until after the baby is horn if you’re not feeling up to it yet – 1 don’t want you becoming stressed.” I admit, as she waves me off
Rose shook her head, her gaze meeting mine with unwavering determination. I’m fine, Ashton,” she replied, her voice steady despite the underlying hint of anxiety. “I want to be here, to support you and to help those poor children. And besides, Doctor Carter is coming with us, just in case right?” Rose trails off, as I nod.
I glanced over at Doctor Carter, who stood nearby with a small bag shung over his shoulder, his expression calm and composed as always. He had agreed to accompany us on the trip, ready to provide medical assistance to Rose if at all needed since the Alphas baby was growing like a ticking time bomb that could pop any second.
Carter had said that it was hard to gage a set due date, with how quick the baby seemed to be growing, and between me and him he said it was a good
sign that the body was strong.
Not that it mattered, which is why I didn’t bother to tell Rose that. I had stated that the strength of the baby didn’t matter, as long as it was bor healthy, and I wanted to keep it that way
“Thank you for coming, Doctor, I call to him, offering him a grateful nod. “I feel better knowing you’re here, just in case,” I conclude, as he smiles gratefully.
Doctor Carter returned the nod with a reassuring look. “Of course, Alpha. I’ll do everything I can to ensure that Miss Rose is safe and to secure her and the baby’s well–being. He beams, happy to be the one appointed to the Alphas first born child.
It was the highest honour for any Doctor to be placed in charge of the birth of the Alpha and Lunas child.
With that reassurance, I turned my attention back to the task at hand, my thoughts turning to the challenges that lay ahead. Jacob’s pack was in turmoil, and it fell to us to set things right and provide a safe haven for those in need.
As the train whistle blew, we all boarded with a sense of purpose, our group settling into our seats with a quiet determination. Ruth and Jonno finding their seats nearby, their presence a comforting reminder of the bonds of friendship and unity that bound us together.
Ruth had always served me well for years, and had been kind to Rose in her early days at the pack and for that, I would be eternally grateful.
As the train rattled along the tracks, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of anticipation building within me. We were on our way back to Jacob’s ex pack, ready to face whatever challenges awaited us and determined to make a difference.
Together, we would build a brighter future for the children who had been left behind, creating a safe and loving environment where they could thrive
and grow
“Excited to become an Alpha?! I question Sawyer, who chuckles at the idea.
“Thrilled!” He remarks, shaking his head at me in disbelief that he was about to embark on such a challenge.
Besides Hunt, there was nobody better fit for t
the role but I needed Hunt to remain as my Beta. He had also just mated with Lydia, so was pretty content
with his life at the moment.
Sawyer is single, and determined and I needed someone with enough time on their hands to put their all in to this project.
As the train journeyed on, the rhythmic sound of its wheels on the tracks provided a backdrop to our conversation, punctuated by the occasional whistle as we passed through small towns and the countryside.
Sawyer leaned forward, his expression thoughtful as he turned back to me. So, Ashton, what made you decide to appoint me as the new Alpha for Jacob’s pack?” he asked, his tone earnest as he sought to understand my reasoning.
I took a moment to consider his question, gathering my thoughts before responding. “It wasn’t an easy decision, Sawyer,” I admitted, my gaze meeting his. “But ultimately, I chose you because I believe in your leadership abilities and your unwavering dedication to our pack – plus, you actually care.” 1 conclude.
Sawyer nodded, a hint of gratitude shining in his eyes. “I appreciate the vote of confidence, Ashton,” he said sincerely. “I won’t let you down. I’ll do everything in my power to ensure that Jacob’s pack thrives under my new leadership. He nods firmly, taking a drink as I admire his determination.
“I have no doubt about that,” I replied, returning his nod with a reassuring smile. “You’ve proven yourself time and time again, both on the battlefield and in your everyday actions. I have every confidence that you’ll be an excellent Alpha and I support the journey fully. Remember if you need anything at all, just call me!” I tell him honestly, offering my lifelong support.
As our conversation continued, we delved into the practicalities of running the orphanage and managing the transition for Jacobs pack. Sawyer offered valuable insights and suggestions, drawing on his own experiences and expertise to help shape our plans for the future which impressed me and reassured me that I had made the right choice.
“Ash?” 1 tum hearing a murmur, to find Rose standing by our table which causes me to perk up as she rubs her eyes.
“What’s wrong?!” I panic, sensing the flatness to her tone.
“I feel a little sick… can 1 lay down somewhere?” She groans, as I immediately nod and stand from my position, excusing myself from my conversation with Sawyer since my mate comes first.
There was a room in the back of the train with a small bed for all of the times in the past when I had travelled during the night. I take her hand in mine, leading her there as she drags her feet behind me.
“Have a rest in here, it’s only big enough for one though my large ass won’t fit in there with you not unless you want to be squashed?!” I joke, causing her to half smile at the attempt, thanking me quietly.
“Are you going to be ok? Do you need me to get Doctor Carter to check you over?” I press her, feeling a nagging concern forming in the pit of my stomach at the sight of her alone.
“No I don’t think it’s anything like that, I think it’s maybe a mixture of morning sickness and travel sickness…” She admits, stepping in to the small room with a sigh.
That makes sense…
“There’s a small bathroom right there if you need it, and just mind–link me if you need anything else… 111 grab you a water before I go.” I nod, as she returns the gesture and moves to settle herself in
I turn back down the locomotive to approach the large ice cooler, retrieving a nice cold bottle of water before returning it to her, pushing open the door to find her climbing in under the sheets.
“Thank you… how long do we have before we get there?” Rose mumbles, shuffling around slightly to get more comfortable.
I didn’t b
blame her for feeling like this since it must be hard carrying a baby that grows rather quickly at that!.
“Just under two hours, I’ll wake you when we arrive?” I suggest, as she agrees with the idea and I switch off the light for her.
I remain close to the door, guarding her during her nap as I stare out at the passing countryside and allow my mind to wonder off in imagination.
What will our baby be like? Will it be a boy or a girl? Either would be perfect, and the surprise excited me.
