Chapter 559 No Lawyer Was Willing to Help Jessica
Sophia called Mr. Johns, asking if he could find the person who had switched the products. According
to her investigation, she found no rat in her own company. Therefore, the rat must be in the Cannon
Group.
Mr. Johns agreed to have a try.
At noon, when Sophia met her client, she encountered Rashad.
The latter was meeting some business partners. He had become a well-respected man in town. Many
bigwigs tried their best to fawn over him.
When he saw Sophia, he strode towards her.
"I didn't expect to see you here, Sophia."
All his business partners were waiting, watching them in silence.
Although the rumor about their affair had been removed online, others still thought they had an affair.
Sophia noticed his clients, looking irritated.
"Mr. Witt, please call me Ms. Lawson. I'm your sister-in-law."
Rashad knew what she meant but didn't take her words seriously.
"How we address each other doesn't matter. Sophia, I heard you had conflicts with the Cannon Group
recently, Sophia. What can I do for you?"
Sophia was tongue-tied by his shamelessness. He was the manipulator behind it, but now, he
hypocritically offered her help. Of course, she didn't trust him.
"No, thanks, Mr. Witt. I can handle it."
"Sophia, I know you are still mad at me. But I can't help myself back then..."
He said so deliberately to imply that they had an affair.
Sophia could no longer tolerate him. She stood up, grabbed her goblet, and splashed the wine on his
face.
"Rashad Witt, I was kind to you because you were my high school senior, but you had ruined our
friendship personally. You'd better stop making up stories. Nothing has ever happened between you
and me. I wouldn't mind cutting your tongue off if you kept making rumors."
She was enraged.
For a long time, Sophia had kept the peace with him.
He, however, kept riding on her nerves and sickened her. Sofia did not think they could ever be at
peace again.
"Sophia, I know you hate me. You can hit me. I don't care. You should know you are the only woman
who can do it in this world."
"Pak!"
Sophia slapped him across his face.
"Enough bullshit, you shameless bastard! Stop slandering me. I couldn't explain the rumors online and
didn't care. But if you keep talking nonsense, I won't let you off!"
"Sophia!"
"Get lost!"
Sophia didn't want to see Rashad at all.
Rashad still wanted to say something but could tell Sophia had become furious. In the end, he had to
turn away.
Before leaving, he added, "If you are in trouble, you can always come to me."
Sophia gazed at his back and replied, stressing each syllable, "I'll never ask you for help even if I go
bankrupt and owe many debts."
Her words stiffened Rashad.
When he returned to his clients, those men held their breath. Although they didn't know Rashad well,
they could tell he was no less scheming and ruthless than Drake.
Sophia's behaviors and words to him in public hurt his dignity.
They could also tell Rashad seemed to love Sophia more than they knew.
The businessmen couldn't help wondering if the battle between the two brothers in the Riley family was
only because of this woman.
Some secretly clicked their tongues, realizing they had got some inside stories.
However, none dared to utter a beep.
One man asked, "Mr. Witt, would you like to get changed?"
"All right."
Rashad called his assistant.
After Sophia had lunch with her client, she left the restaurant and didn't see Rashad that day.
In other words, she tried to avoid him.
She wasn't so wary of Rashad before. Recalling the chain of things, she suddenly realized Rashad was
likely to be the mastermind of all those things.
Thus, she decided to stay away from him without giving him any chance.
Much to Jessica's surprise, the legal team of the Cannon Group refused to help her file a lawsuit
without Mr. Stark's permission.
She pounded the desk. "What do you mean? Can't I represent Mr. Stark?"
The legal consultant wasn't scared. "In the company, you may, but not legally." Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
Jessica was slightly taken aback. "What do you mean? Do you mean I have something to do with Mr.
Stark's missing?"
The legal consultant wasn't frightened by her. "I don't know about it. After all, I've never seen it
personally, so I don't know exactly what happened."
"You... How dare you disobey me! You are not even comparable to Mr. Johns. He's a shareholder in
this company. What do you have? You are just working for Mr. Stark. I can fire you anytime if I want."
The legal consultant glanced at her. "Please go ahead."
"You!"
Jessica didn't expect him to be so stubborn.
"All right. Don't cry and beg me when you are fired."
The legal consultant shrugged as he believed she would be the one to cry and beg at the end.
After he was fired, Jessica's assistant walked to her and asked gingerly, "Ms. Greenspan, he's worked
for Mr. Stark for years. You simply fired him. If other employees know it, they'll feel disappointed."
"Why? Can't I fire someone? Do I need their approval?" Jessica was annoyed.
"No, that's not what I mean, Ms. Greenspan. You are an acting president now, so you should focus on
running the company and wait for Mr. Stark to return. However, if you do extra things, other employees
will think you want to replace him."
Jessica looked at him. "Haven't I replaced him now?"
The assistant was tongue-tied.
"From now on, I'll fire all the employees I dislike. Then I'll hire more."
The assistant was surprised that Jessica wanted to change employees in the Cannon Group into her
people.
Yet he had no other option than to obey her, since Mr. Stark was missing.
"Also, contact the best lawyers in Sealand. Even though the legal team refuses me, I can find other
lawyers to file the lawsuit."
"OK, Ms. Greenspan."
The assistant left to get things done.
However, Jessica had never expected all the lawyers in Sealand would be unwilling to help her. They
all replied that they had a lot of things on the plate.
Jessica gazed at her assistant in disbelief, "Are you sure?"
The assistant was also shocked, wondering if someone had done something behind it.
"Yes, I am sure."
"OK. Go back to your work."
Jessica didn't expect to encounter difficulty after taking the position. Suddenly, an idea came across her
mind.
She picked up her phone and called Rashad.
