Chapter 472 Drake Sleeps on the Sofa
Drake fixed his pitiful gaze on Sophia. This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
He never expected it would happen to him one day.
When it was time for sleep, Bonnie looked at Drake who was on the sofa and, intentionally or
unintentionally, asked, "Mommy, why does Papa sleep on the sofa?"
"The bed is too small for him."
Bonnie looked innocent, "I don't think so. The bed is big enough to take one more person."
Drake was afraid that his "stupid" daughter would blunder on, so he winked at her to stop her.
Sophia noticed that and asked Bonnie, "Did your father say something..."
"No! Of course not!" Drake knew clear what she was going to say and stopped her hurriedly.
Sophia threw a glance at him, "Why so flustered? Are you guilty or something? Tell me, who else do
you want to sleep on this bed!"
Drake truly understood that one word could make the difference between success and failure. His
daughter almost drove him mad.
"No. I don't think Bonnie means anything else, but our bed is big. Bonnie, right?"
Bonnie realized the seriousness of the situation and nodded.
Sophia looked at them and said, "Well, sleep!"
Although Bonnie was still curious why her father had to sleep on the sofa, she finally decided not to ask
when she saw how her mommy was behaving.
The next morning, Drake woke up on the sofa. Seeing Sophia's face finally soften, he sighed with relief.
However, he still felt uncomfortable for sleeping on the sofa all night long. He needed to take his
frustrations out on someone.
When Drake arrived at his company, he asked Paul to prepare a pile of documents for him. Paul had
no idea what was going on with Drake. However, as he had worked for Drake for so many years, he
guessed it must be because of Sophia, who might have done something "bad" to him.
But...
"Mr. Riley, you don't have to work so hard. I'll cope with these documents for you."
"What makes you think I'm going to handles them?"
Paul felt strange and asked, "May I know who will cope with them?"
Just then, Rashad came in from outside after he knocked at the door, "Drake, what's going on?"
"Well," Drake said impassively, "Rashad, you may not be familiar with the work as you are new here.
So I ask Paul to prepare these for you. By the time you are done, you might be familiar with the
business of our company."
Paul was out of words.
Rashad was aware that Drake did it on purpose, but he said nothing and intended to pick up the
documents.
"Rashad, have Paul deliver them to your office. There will be some tough days for you."
"It's not a big deal. Drake, I should thank you as you allow me to participate in the operation of the
company. I will do my best to live up to your expectation."
"Good! Paul, bring the documents to Rashad's office."
"Yes, sir!"
As Paul carried the documents, he felt "sorry" for Rashad. He shouldn't have offended Drake, who was
always vengeful!
...
Over the past few days, Sophia had returned to the Riley manor with great frequency. But her
preparations were almost finished, so she went to Lily and said, "Lily, I think you're getting on well with
those ladies these days, and Emma can visit you often, so I won't come here unless there's something
important. You know, I still have a lot of work to do..."
She stopped there since what she meant was clear.
"Sophia, thank you so much for your help. You have taken so much time to take care of so many things
for me. I'm terribly grateful!" Then Lily held Sophia's hands.
Sophia tried to pull away, but Lily just grabbed her hands.
"I have only bothered you these days, but you have never complained. I don't have anything good to
give you. Look, this bracelet is my mother's. Please take it if you don't mind its low value!"
The bracelet was a family heirloom, but Lily wanted to give it to Sophia.
Sophia was rendered speechless. She didn't understand why Lily always did things like this to her to
cause her trouble.
"Lily!" Sophia pushed the bracelet back, looking calm, "It's a pleasure to help you. Besides, Rashad
asked me to help you. My help is nothing to speak of. I can't accept the bracelet. It's so precious. You
should give it to Rashad's future wife!"
"Don't say that. Although I don't have a daughter-in-law now, you are the same as my daughter-in-law."
It sounded good, but it could be ambiguous for others.
Fortunately, Sophia's mother-in-law was Emma who had known her since her childhood. Emma would
not misinterpret Lily's ambiguous words.
"It's different. I appreciate your kindness, but I can't accept the bracelet.
After Sophia declined many times, Lily finally gave up.
She had done everything she could do. Whether Rashad could be with Sophia or not depended on
him.
Unexpectedly, Rashad didn't come back even after 10 p. m.
Usually, the Old Riley went to bed in this time. However, he felt a bit anxious since Rashad still stayed
outside.
"Lily, have you called Rashad. When will he come back?"
"I have. But he said he was working extra hours."
"Extra hours? How about Drake? Does he work overtime, too?"
Lily said in a blank voice, "Not many people seem to be working overtime. Drake should've taken the
day off!"
The Old Riley took Lily's words seriously and then gave Drake a phone call.
"Drake, where are you now?"
Drake had predicted that his grandfather would call him and said unhurriedly, "Grandpa, you want to
know why Rashad has not got home yet, don't you?"
"Nobody works overtime but him. Give me an explanation. Do you behave well in front of me while
giving Rashad a hard time without my knowledge?"
"Grandpa, I want him to familiarize himself with our business as soon as possible. He's the vice
president who has to deal with a lot of things. I think we cannot let him feel like a newcomer who is
being sidelined."
As the Old Riley heard such words, he understood Drake's good intentions.
"You are right. I'm not as considerate as you. Just do what you wanna do!"
When Drake hung up the phone, he put on a significant smile.
The Old Riley said to Lily, smiling, "Drake is magnanimous. I had thought that he did so many things
because he disliked Rashad. It seems that I was wrong."
