Chapter 16 KAIDEN STIRLING I stared down at the pile of papers that were sitting on the table in front of me. I could not focus. had tried hard, and I tried taking a walk to calm myself and my agitated wolf, but I could not focus for the life of me. I groaned and got to my feet as I started to pace. I was restless. My wolf was restless, prancing around in my mind and I was not sure why. It had started since the previous afternoon and I could not explain why. I sighed and walked out of my office, heading towards the kitchen. Usually, taking chamomile tea managed to calm me down when a walk or nothing else seemed to be able to. The maids usually cleaned the Alpha’s quarters (where I lived) when all the wolves in the Alpha’s quarters had gone to bed. As I walked through the luxurious space and headed for the kitchen, all the maids that had been speaking went silent. They usually would just keep quiet when I passed, greet me and go on with their gossip. They completely stopped talking even after greeting me. One of them peeked at me from under her eyelashes as she cleaned a vase She shook her head as she looked at the other maid that was close to her. The second maid shared the look with the the other maids around the room, unknowing of the fact that I could very Chapter 10 easily read all of them. I let out a quiet sigh. They specifically didn’t want me to hear what they were talking about, whatever it was. I mixed the tea to my exact measurement and preference. I took a sip of the tea and a semblance of relaxation hit me. My muscles that were pulled taught from stress (for whatever reason since yesterday) started to loosen up and I let out a very pleased sigh. NôvelDrama.Org holds this content.

Usually, I would have been a little bothered that the maids were trying to keep whatever the tea was from me. I liked to listen to their gossip and keep in the loop. But now, I did not care. Not when I was getting the first semblance of calmness I had gotten in the last thirty two hours I walked out of the kitchen area and headed down the hallway. Finally I would be able to look at the petition that the humans at the outer part of Brookback county had sent. I liked to take care of our relations with humans as quick and as neat as possible. I was at the end of the hallway in front of the door to my office when a whisper carried down the hallway and into my ears. “Poor Alpha. This is going to cause such a great scandal. What will he do when she finds out that she’s back?” One of the maids had whispered. I had no idea what she was talking about, and despite the curiosity that sat deep in my chest, I did not go to ask what it was. I walked into my office and shut the door behind me. And just like that, I was back in the restless my wolf and I had been suffering. 24 875 09:43 Chapter 16 *** *** *** 285 Wouchers “Good morning, daddy,” my four year old daughter, Harper smiled as she climbed into my lap and kissed my cheek. I stared down at my beautiful, lovely girl before picking her up in my arms and getting to my feet. I covered her face with kisses until she was screaming and giggling. “That tickles, dad!” She squealed and I spun around with her in my hold. She screamed and I laughed. These days, mornings with Harper were the only things I looked forward to. Over the past six years, my life had gradually been falling apart and she had been the only thing that made me happy, that kept me alive and pushing. Because whether I liked it or not, I had to make sure she had a happy family; a father, a mother and all the love she could possibly get. Of course I liked it. I loved her. I would give anything to see her

be happy. “What’s all the noise for?” Safiya walked into the kitchen with a frown. It was unusual, big not out of the ordinary. It seemed to me that she still had the hormones and mood swings of a teenager. Believe me, I understood women and the way their chemistry and mind worked. But I could never figure out Safiya. “Good morning to you too,” I responded sarcastically, turning away from her and back to my gorgeous daughter. “Come on, I’ll make you some cereal,” I kissed her cheek and placed her in her special seat that was right within my arms reach when I sat at the dinning table. 09 43 Chapte 16 She was not tall enough to reach the dinning table, so she sat in a special elevated seat. Safiya threw me a furious glare and my wolf growled in my head at the disrespect. I tempered him down. I realized now that it was not just hormones that were bothering her. She was angry about something. And she was really angry. “What is it?” I asked with a sigh, grabbing Harper’s favorite cereal and then a bottle of milk from the refrigerator. She sighed and I turned back to look at her before grabbing a small bowl for the cereal and then heading back to the table in front of Harper. She looked so adorable when she was excited. I did not want Safiya to lose her temper and ruin that for my daughter. “What is it?” I asked again and she looked me in the eyes as she spoke angrily. “Freda is back.” My world screeched to a standstill at those words and my heart went into overdrive, beating faster that it ever would have if I ran the circumference of the earth. Freda… My mate was back?
