Chapter 182
Chapter 182
It was late when I got home. My dad was already asleep, but my mom was waiting for me in the living room.
“Hi, sorry We had a great time at dinner, so we’re a bit late, Sean explained as soon as he saw my mom.
My mom seemed a bit upset, but since Alicia was my good friend and Sean was her boyfriend, she didn’t let it show.
“Glad you’re home, my mom replied.
“We’re heading out now,” Alicia quickly said.
“Take care on the road, my mom nodded with a smile.
Once Alicia and Sean left, my mom’s smile faded. She asked, “Did you really go out to dinner with them?”
I nodded and replied, “Yes”
If
my mom found out I’d been to the hospital to see Neil again, I could be sure Russel was the one who told her
I calmly poured a glass of water and waited for her to continue
But my mom didn’t ask any more questions Instead, she seriously advised me, ‘Good I can’t keep you locked up forever, Irene. You have to make smart decisions.”
She then handed me my phone. Here’s your phone. Go to bed
“Okay, mom, I got it I happily took my phone and hummed a tune while heading upstairs. As a woman of the 21st century life without a phone was a challenge I hadn’t found a steady job yet so I hadn’t even gotten around to getting a computer Life seemed pretty barren
Once upstairs, I immediately plugged my phone in to charge and turned it on
I had over twenty missed calls most of them from Neil and a few from Russel Stella, and Oscar
I had 99+ messages on WhatsApp
I glanced through each one replied to those who needed a response, and finally landed on Neils chat
Neil had witten multiple messages. Did you like the movie?
Why arent you replying? Why
up your phone?
Irene, you’re not messing with mu
You got clues from me and then ignored me?
The movie has started. Are you messing with me?”
The last message was sent the night tignored him, and it said. “I’m outside your house?
He’d sent me a message to notify me, but because i didnt reply he probably felt like a fool and left soon after
Seeing all the messages hed sent,
him up, he chose to ignore me
emotions. I used to send messages to Ned just like this, but the difference was I was forced to stand
I was suddenly a bit happy Ned finally got a taste of being ignored.
He even got beaten up Did that mean there was justice in this world?
It was a bit immoral to think this way but it was fun if i block him now, he’d probably be livid
In the end. I gave up on the idea, fearing Mitch and the others would come after me again.
Neil’s injury should’ve been kept a secret. He was the heir to Whitmore Co and the only son of the Whitmore family
If news of his brain injury got out, it would definitely affect the company’s interests After all, his business acumen was quite impressive.
But for some reason, within two days, newspapers and the internet were filled with news of his injury, and it was blown out of proportion. After reading few articles, I even started to wonder if Neil had been knocked silly
Neil quickly responded by releasing his medical report, proving his injuries weren’t serious
Interestingly, once he was injured, many women he’d been rumored to be involved with sent him their well–wishes for a speedy recovery
“Rena, Neil’s parents, went to the hospital to see him, Stella said with a hint of sarcasm during our phone chat. And that Bonnie, she goes three times a day like a hursel
“Let her be. Hopefully, her sincerity can touch Neil,” I calmly replied.
7 think that’s highly unlikely,” Stella said. “Do you think she intentionally leaked the news of Neil’s injury for revenge?”
I didn’t think so. After all, she was hoping Neil would fall in love with her now. She wouldn’t do something so stupid.
I replied, “I think it’s more likely someone from Raymon’s end did it. Even though he’s in the ICU, someone must know about their feud.”
“Maybe you’re right. I have to go see what toy those two are fighting over now!” Stella’s kids suddenly started making a fuss, so she had to hang up in a hurry
As à mother, her life was indeed much busier
was lounging on the rocking chair in the yard, hoping to catch some sleep. Just as I was about to doze off, a call woke me up, and the caller surprised

ime.
“Trene,” Faith Whitmore’s tired voice came through the phone after I answered it.
“Can I help you?” I politely asked.
“I’m in Rosemont right now. Do you have time to meet with me?” Faith asked.
I didn’t have a reason to meet with anyone from the Whitmore family, so I gently declined. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
But Faith didn’t give up. “Irene, we were family after all. Let’s meet for a meal. I have something to discuss with you.”
“You can tell me over the phone,” I replied.
“Let’s meet anyway. We haven’t seen each other in a long time. I’m near your house right now. It’ll only take half an hour, Faith’s tone was sincere, without a trace of superiority
My parents were both at work today, and I was home alone. Although I could meet Faith, I didn’t think it was necessary.
In the end, I still refused. After hanging up the phone, I sat in silence for a while. I lost the mood to sunbathe, so I got up to go back to the living room.
“Irene,” someone called from outside the door, “Can we talk for a bit?”
The security in my neighborhood was excellent, but anyone who had been to my house before could generally come right in.
I didn’t expect Faith to show up at my front door
Since she was already here, I had no choice but to open the door and invite Faith into the living room. I poured her a cup of coffee and prepared some fruit.
“Trene, I know I shouldn’t be bothering you, but I just can’t help myself.” Faith’s face was etched with exhaustion,
Two years had passed, and she seemed to have aged significantly, yet still dressed in her elegant and dignified attire, wearing the gemstone necklace | once gave her.
These past two years, Neil has been more of a worry than ever. After your divorce, he showed no interest in the blind dates we set up for him, and he’s had no contact with women whatsoever. Irene, he’s my only son, and I sure as hell don’t want to see him single for the rest of his life, and I can’t let Whitmore Co. die in his hands.
I listened quietly, not yet sure what Faith was driving at.
Looking at me, Faith’s eyes held a hint of embarrassment, “Irene, I know it’s a big ask for you to come back, but today, I’m swallowing my pride to ask if you could give Neil another shot?”
