Chapter 599
Who is this guy, anyway?
Just as Cameron was lost in thought, the man made a rather bold decision: "Open the door, I'm going in." The doctor quickly intervened, "Absolutely not, there's an emergency surgery underway. If you interrupt now, it could have dire consequences."
"Aren't you the ones who said the success rate wasn't guaranteed?" the man's voice was low and chilling. The hospital director tried to reason, "Sir, every surgery has its risks."
"If she doesn't make it, I expect all of you to resign for failing her." Everyone went pale at his words. The director relented, "Open the door."
And just like that, the emergency room door swung open.
The man in the wheelchair, accompanied by a nurse in white, entered the room.
The door slowly closed behind them.
All the while, Nathan stood by, silently observing.
Time ticked by slowly.
Cameron, feeling her legs go numb from standing, eventually lay back down on the bed.
Five or six hours passed, and as darkness fell, Cameron heard some shuffling outside.
"The surgery was a success."
"Ms. Nathalie needs to stay in the ICU for a few days. Mr. Nathan, you can go home and rest. Come back tomorrow."
"Alright."
Nathan, with his injured leg, limped away.
Cameron was curious: hadn't the guy in the wheelchair left yet?
Inside the ICU, Nathalie, having been
given a sedative, was in a deep sleep, unaware of the man watching her intently, as if he could never look away.
"You need to live."
"Live well."
"Otherwise, everything I've done would be for nothing."
"Between us, one has to live in the light."
In the dead of night, the man quietly left the hospital.
Two days later, Nathalie's condition had improved, and she woke up, feeling weak.
At her insistence, the hospital moved her to a regular room, but this time it was a private one.
Nathan had been by her side early on. When Nathalie saw him, she felt whispers echoing in her mind for some reason.
She smiled warmly, gently hooking

her fingers with Nathan's. "Thank you for your encouragement while I wasan the ICU. It gave me the will to live."
Nathan's expression was stiff as he clasped her hand back.

Nathalie continued, "You haven't said those things in ages; I didn't think you remembered. I promise I'll live well. For you, and for me
After she talked for a while, noticing Nathan's unusual quietness, she looked up curiously. "Why aren't you saying anything?"
Nathan hesitated, then said, "Oh, I was just thinking about whether your accident was freak occurrence or something else."
Nathalie's face fell, "You think it was deliberate?"
Nathan nodded, "I've got too many enemies. They might've targeted you out of spite. I'm sorry."
Nathalie smiled, "Better me than you."
Nathan clenched his jaw in anger, "I'll find out who's behind this. They'll learn that hurting you was their biggest mistake."
Nathalie squeezed Nathan's hand, "We've got to send a message, or they'll think our Nathan is an easy target."
During Nathalie's time in the hospital, visitors kept coming non-stop.noveldrama
