Chapter 350
Chapter 350
Chase turned just in time to catch sight of Sasha, a mischievous smirk playing on his mouth. "You settling down with me?" Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
Sasha glared at him, her annoyance palpable. "Settle down with you? In your dreams!"
Wheeling over to her mother's side, she stated with solemn gravity, "Mom, there's nothing between me and him, and the baby story was a lie. Please stop involving yourself."
Carolina took her daughter's hand, offering words of comfort. "Sweetie, I know you lost the baby, and you're upset, but that's no reason to take it out on Chase. It's not his fault. You're both young. There's plenty of time for children, right Chase?" Her lips curved in a smile toward Chase, her fondness for him barely concealed.
Chase nodded, playing along with a grin. "You are right."
"Right my foot! Chase, stop making a mess and get out. You're not needed here!"
Carolina shot her daughter a stern look. "What kind of language is that? You don't sound like a lady at all. Chase, if she ever speaks to you like that again, you tell me, and I'll set her straight."
Chase shook his head, his expression a picture of feigned hurt. "It's okay, Carolina. I'm used to it."
Sasha was itching to throttle him. What was this guy's deal? Was he just born to enjoy playing the pretend boyfriend? She kicked at Chase, her threat barely veiled. "Say one more word, and I swear I'll sew your mouth shut."
Chase's mouth, which had just opened to respond, snapped shut again. His lips were pressed tightly together as he gave Carolina a pitiful look.
Carolina patted his shoulder. "Don't worry, dear. I'm here. She won't really hurt you. Speak your mind."
Sasha felt helpless and turned to Clara for rescue. "Clara, my mom's lost it. Help me out here."
Clara was about to step forward and clear the air when Ian pulled her back with a mischievous glint in his eye. "Let's not disturb them. Carolina's finally meeting her 'son-in-law.' We'll come back later."
After a casual greeting to Carolina, he whisked Clara away. Sasha fumed behind them. "Ian, I took the fall for your wife here, and this is how you repay me? Just you wait!"
As Clara was led away, she kept looking back. "Is it really okay to leave Sasha hanging? She only told that lie to her mom because of me."
Ian leaned in, planting a kiss on her forehead, his voice a seductive murmur. "My silly wife, trust me, a little mistake isn't that bad. Who knows, maybe those two will actually hit it off."
"But they fight all the time. How could they possibly work out?"
"Ever heard of a couple that thrives on love and war? Maybe that's them."
Clara looked at him, surprised. "You seem to know a lot. Sounds like you've been quite the ladies' man. Have you had a lot of relationships before?"
Ian leaned closer, his breath grazing her ear as he whispered, "I've only ever been in a relationship with you. And it's you and only you for this lifetime, Mrs. Hayes. Satisfied?"
His voice, laced with desire, sent shivers down Clara's spine. She instinctively pulled away, but Ian pinned her against the wall, his tall frame casting a shadow over her. His handsome face loomed larger in her vision, his breaths growing hotter as he drew near.
Clara's heart skipped a beat. Facing such a passionate man with a talent for sweet talk, how could she possibly resist? She turned her head slightly, her voice husky. "Ian, stop it. Let's go check on my dad, okay?"
