My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0423

Chapter 0423

Barox wasn’t joking. His ankle was sprained and his leg had just had stitches. He didn’t feel good. Sitting in a luxury car did feel really good—

He hadn’t forgotten Yana’s instructions to disgust Alex either.

At his words, the area noticeably quieted down. Only Barox looked calm, as if it were only natural.

Sawyer glanced at Alex's serious profile and cleared his throat. "Since we're all going back to the hotel, why don't we go together? I'm sure Mr. Elysian won't mind."

Candice's brow twitched, but she couldn’t say anything. It wasn’t easy to get a taxi on a rainy day, especially during rush hour.

She took the bag from Barox's hand and could only look at Alex and Sawyer. "Then we'll trouble you again."

Alex's deep eyes lingered on Candice's face for a moment before he asked flatly, "Aren't you going to get checked?"

Candice had been startled when Barox pushed her earlier, and now she was soaked in the rain. It would be a good idea to get a check-up.

-

As they headed back, the rain grew heavier. Candice sat in the front passenger seat, staring at the misty streets outside absentmindedly. Her mind was blank, just purely zoning out.

When they arrived at the hotel, Sawyer was very enthusiastic, helping Barox all the way back to his room, with Alex following along.

After Barox was safely back in his room, Candice turned around and found Alex waiting at the door of her room.

She hesitated for a moment before walking over. "Barox got injured today. If your car is dirty, I'll pay for the cleaning service."

Alex looked down at her. "Calculating so clearly?"

"Even biological brothers keep track of accounts," Candice replied.

Alex chuckled lightly, his dark eyes looking at Candice. There was a hint of faint sarcasm in them, and his tone was hard to read. "What's so good about Barox that makes you care so much?"

Candice looked at him calmly. Alex's question seemed rather unnecessary. "I'll talk to Sawyer about this issue,” she said. “I've troubled him today."

Alex's eyebrows twitched slightly. "Troubled him?"

Candice's expression remained calm. She seemed to ignore Alex's deliberate provocation. "He's been taking care of Barox all day."

"Do you know who Tina's uncle is?" Alex asked, as if he didn’t want to hear her talk about how hard Sawyer had worked. His tone remained the same, casually throwing out the question.

"No. Who is he?"

"James Bruce, the chairman of Victory Corporation, and also Jensen's younger brother." Alex said casually. "If I'm not mistaken, Tina should be Jensen's daughter."

The unexpected revelation caught Candice off guard. She was stunned for a moment. "How is that possible?" She was still waiting for Jensen to come back, but by chance she had met his daughter

first.

"I don't know if it's lucky or unlucky," Alex said. "Jensen divorced his ex-wife long ago, and he only has his daughter by his side. I heard he cares a lot about her." Alex's voice was slow, thoughtfully pausing between his sentences.

Thinking of Tina's good manners, Candice said, "Even if Tina is his daughter, it may not be useful. After all, the only time we will be able to see him will only be a short period at the airport."

Alex did not stay long before leaving. It was only then that Candice realized he was still wearing only a shirt. She stood at the door for a moment before turning back to her room.

It was a rainy night, perfect for sleeping.

Candice slept well. Worried about catching a cold, she had taken a hot bath before going to bed.

The next day, before she went out, she called Yana and told her about Barox's injury. Yana didn’t react much. She only expressed some disdain for Barox, and complained about his stupidity.

Candice thought that Barox, as a postdoc at Dorrington University, could not be considered stupid. If he was, then other people were even dumber. But she did not argue with Yana.

She just said, "He can't move much for now. He'll probably have to wait a while before returning to Dorrington."

Yana didn’t care. "He can come back whenever. I just care about when you're coming back. I heard from Hanley and Jackson that Sonia should have been summoned back, so you should be coming back too, right?"

"I haven't received any notice yet."

"Anyway, no matter what, Sonia deserves her misfortune. She will suffer sooner or later. How could someone be so malicious as to incite others to pull out an oxygen tube..." Yana muttered quietly, and Candice listened as she left her room.

It was the last day of the summit, with a closing ceremony scheduled. She had been in Solaris for quite some time, and the summit had coincided with the Redshade tender, which had been repeatedly extended, but now was finally coming to an end.

As Candice left her room, she unexpectedly ran into Angela and Bella at the door. It seemed Bella had come to see Angela off, but she still smiled and nodded at Candice from afar. Bella looked very thin, even thinner than last time. Her white shirt hung on her like a sack, and looked empty.

"Good morning. It's the last day today. Why do I still feel a bit reluctant for things to be over?" Angela said as she came over to greet Candice.

Candice looked away from Bella to Angela, and asked, "Why is your friend so thin?"

"Ella? Do you think she's thinner too? I told her so, but she said I must be mistaken." Angela grumbled. She linked arms with Candice and sighed. "Maybe this is what love does to you. There's nothing I can do. She's my best friend, after all."

Angela seemed to dislike talking about Darius. Whenever there was a topic related to him, she would quickly change the subject.

-

Everyone was very excited for the final day of the summit. Several invited professors and investors also attended.

Alex arrived a bit later than Candice, and just like the other day, he entered with a group of people.

He wore a wine-red tie today, which added a touch of solemnity and casualness to his appearance.

"Although Alex is foolish, he’s certainly handsome," Angela whispered.

Candice paused, following her gaze. Wine-red ties could easily look old fashioned, but on Alex, it seemed harmonious and complementary.

Angela was right. In terms of looks, Alex was definitely handsome.

Sonia didn’t show up again, even when the meeting started. The news about her being summoned by the police had become increasingly widespread. Even Mr. Franklyn knew about it and came to inquire.

That wasn’t the only information circulating. It was unclear who had first spread the knowledge that Candice and Sonia used to both work for Aether. People were too afraid to ask Alex, so they all swarmed to Candice.

Candice blocked them all. If they knew the details of her connection to Sonia, they would be even more relentless. Besides, they were outsiders, they didn’t need to know.

-

As Candice was being swarmed by strangers wanting more information, Sonia stood anxiously outside a company building. It was Darius's company, and it was only her second time here.

She really needed Darius's help now.
