Chapter 0418
Chapter 0418
He changed the topic all of a sudden, and Candice couldn't keep up for a moment. Still, she managed to say, "I can heat it up and eat it."
Candice had faced tough times before, so her habits of being frugal and thrifty had stuck with her. Alex chuckled, the meaning not entirely clear. He didn’t return the food container to Candice; instead, after returning to the hotel, he tossed it directly to Sawyer.
Shawn was in high spirits all night, and although he didn’t eat much, his enthusiasm remained.
However, due to his age, he felt tired before 8:00 PM, prompting Candice to have Bruno take him back to rest.
Watching Shawn’s hesitance when facing her and Alex, Candice could only say, "Alex and I still have things to discuss."
They had dinner on the hotel's second floor, while Shawn’s room was upstairs. Hence, he could take the elevator up, which eliminated any safety concerns.
The matter Candice had to discuss with Alex was related to Redshade Corporation.
Burning Star Studio and Aether Corporation were currently tied together. If Burning Star Studio was rejected, Aether Corporation wouldn't face a favorable outcome.
Candice asked Alex, "Do you know when Jensen's coming back?"
"Early next month," Alex replied.
Candice calculated the time; early next month was next week.
She looked tensed, as if facing a challenging situation.
"I asked Angela and Abel today. They both said Jensen is difficult to handle. Do you think he'll believe Quentin or us?"
Unconsciously, Candice already considered herself and Alex on the same side.
Alex raised an eyebrow, looking deep in thought. He tapped on the table while saying casually, "Jensen values his reputation. Quentin's actions today were likely because he understood Jensen’s temper."
Because Jensen cared about his reputation, Quentin publicly embarrassed her, making it difficult for Jensen to retract Quentin's decision.
After a brief pause, Candice, who had been agitated, suddenly calmed down.
"Quentin wouldn't target me without a reason."
Although the current situation seemed unsolvable, Candice started calmly analyzing it.
She imitated Alex as she tapped her finger on the table and said something with each tap.
"Quentin has been targeting Burning Star Studio from the start, even without a valid reason. Sonia is just an assistant; Quentin wouldn't let her decide without a reason. Quentin, Redshade Corporation, Burning Star Studio, Aether Corporation..."
Candice slowly listed these names, forming a network of relationships in her mind. Her finger paused at a certain moment, and she looked at Alex, asking, "Is there someone behind Quentin?"
Alex remained calm, showing no surprise. Candice's face darkened slightly.
"Did you know this already?"
"Quentin doesn't have the guts to directly target the entire Dorrington area."
Alex's tone was flat. He looked at Candice, and there was no discernible emotion in his dark eyes.
"You think too highly of him. Instead of paying too much attention to him, you should focus more on —"
Before he finished speaking, Candice's phone, which was placed on the table, suddenly rang. It was a call from Barox.
Candice suddenly remembered that she had been so busy that she forgot to tell Barox that he didn't need to pick her up today.
She looked at Alex, picked up the phone, and went to a corner to answer.
"Barox? Sorry, I forgot to tell you I had something today and came back earlier. Where are you now?"
There was silence on the other end for a while before Barox slowly said, "I’m glad to know you're okay."
Full of remorse, Candice kept apologizing to Barox. After all, it was because of her that Barox had waited for so long. Fortunately, Barox wasn't petty, and he said a few words to Candice before hanging up, mentioning that he was going to a nearby bar.
While holding the phone, Candice felt a headache. When things weren't busy, she could remember that Barox was there. However, in a situation like today, she would forget everything. She felt bad about it.
Candice felt that she should talk to Barox and Yana to let Barox return to Dorrington first.
Anyway, he had been here long enough. She figured she could come up with some excuses later.
To be honest, Candice was starting to feel guilty. Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
She grabbed her phone and returned to Alex's side.
Just as she was about to continue their previous conversation, she saw Alex looking at her with cold eyes as he asked, "Barox called?"
Candice nodded, prompting Alex to raise his eyebrows slightly. The coldness in his eyes couldn't conceal the underlying emotions.
The bright light softened the contours of his features.
He spoke in a calm tone, with a hint of ripple in his eyes and a slightly mocking smirk. "It seems your boyfriend is indeed quite hard to pacify when he’s upset."
Candice, reminded of her past words to Alex, instinctively furrowed her brow. However, she quickly relaxed her expression, presenting a decorated calmness. "I got used to it."
When Alex heard that, his expression fell. His gaze, like that of a turbulent sea, was icy cold.
He deliberately repeated, "You got used to it."
With a cold snort, Alex decisively stood up. He looked down at Candice, and in a chilly tone, he uttered, "It seems I need to wait until you've pacified your boyfriend before discussing other matters with you."
His voice radiated a chill. After speaking, he slammed the door and left.
Candice frowned, feeling as if the echoing sound of the slammed door still lingered in her ears.
She rubbed her temples; her nerves were tensed, showing no sign of relaxation. Her mind replayed various incidents as she tried to figure everything out.
After returning to her room, she was just about to call Yana to discuss Barox's situation when Jackson's call came in.
"Candy, Yvonne admitted everything." Jackson's words were concise, but they left Candice standing still, frozen in place.
He continued, "In the afternoon, she spilled everything Sonia had asked her to do, and there's even evidence. She would probably be summoned back now to await further actions."
