Chapter 719
Chapter 719
Kevin was the first to react. He shouted at the nurses, who looked bewildered, "What are you waiting
for?! Start resuscitation immediately!"
No one paid any attention to Bradley, and Felix went unnoticed as well. They both observed as Kevin
and the nurses rushed to save Esther.
The father and son stared helplessly as the monitor's line remained flat.
"Prepare for defibrillation. Notify Dr. Foster!"
As the nurses were about to inform Agatha, she entered and took over Kevin's position. Her presence
was like a calming anchor, and the nurses gradually resumed their tasks.
"Mr. Warner, please leave," a nurse said.
Felix took hold of the nurse's hand and nervously asked, "Is Mommy going to die?"
The nurse remained silent. She didn't know how to answer. She wanted to say "no" but was afraid her
response might disappoint Felix.
"Little one, can you wait outside for your mom?" she asked.
Felix obediently nodded and walked over to sit on a chair outside the ICU. Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
"Mr. Warner, please step out as well," she repeated.
Bradley didn't move.
With Agatha attending to Esther, Kevin had the freedom to usher Bradley out of the ICU.
Bradley didn't utter a word.
Kevin didn't say anything, either. He didn't want to waste his breath arguing with Bradley at that
moment, feeling that every word he said would be futile.
The ICU was tense—it housed critically ill patients, making it one of the closest places to death.
Felix listened to the distant cries of family members and saw a covered figure being wheeled out while
a couple was crying inconsolably.
He lowered his head, tears falling onto his little hand.
Felix's unusual behavior went unnoticed by Bradley. He just stared in Esther's direction as if his soul
had left his body to be with her.
"Felix." When Oliver's voice sounded, Felix's tears flowed even more intensely. "Felix."
Oliver vaguely sensed that something was amiss. "Have you forgotten how to greet someone when
you see them?"
Felix opened his mouth, wanting to say "Granduncle" but felt like a lump of cotton was blocking his
throat for some reason, preventing him from producing any sound.
Oliver picked up Felix, playfully bumping his forehead against Felix's nose. "Felix… Upset to see your
uncle?"
Felix shook his head, then nodded.
Oliver took a long look at Bradley, then carried Felix away.
Kevin followed them, worried that Oliver might want to ask about Esther's condition.
"Mr. Quill—"
Oliver asked coldly, "Did you not notice something wrong with Felix?"
Kevin was surprised. He felt Felix's forehead. No, he wasn't running a fever.
"Felix, are you unable to speak?" Kevin's eyes widened in shock. "This can't be! I just heard him asking
the nurse..."
Felix made a gesture.
