Chapter 19
Chapter 19
Hayden
I stared at Garron as my fists clenched in an effort to keep myself from jumping on him. It was his
territory but he was beginning to get under my skin.
I saw Madeleine walk towards the packhouse and disappear behind the door. And, that is when I felt as
if I had lost something.
I had wanted to hug her one last time, to hold her in my embrace and tell her that everything was okay.
But, I had missed that chance.
Even Luke was disappointed with me. All the sorrow and worry were making me want to kill Garron
right then and there.
But I kept my cool and reminded him of our talk, “If you don’t send all of your pack members to train,
you are answerable to the other alphas.”
He grimaced but could say nothing except nod his head. Despite the little victory, I had over him, I felt
anxious to know that it would be days before I would again see Madeleine.
Giving him a stern and loathful look, I stepped in my car and drove away. I was feeling restless and
anxious and I didn’t know why. It had been a long time since I had felt the need to protect someone.
The last time I had done that, turned against everyone to claim what I wanted…things had gone awfully
wrong.
The thought surprised me. When had Madeleine become so important to me?
Shaking my head, I tried to empty my brain as I drove like a madman. Twisting the car through the
narrow lanes, I almost crashed it into a tree but narrowly missed it.
I looked at the wide tree trunk that was just inches away from the car’s hood. It had been a narrow miss
and my eyes went wide to notice that.
Taking a deep breath, I tried to calm myself as I placed my head on the steering wheel.
I sat there with my eyes closed and thinking of the past and the present, willing myself to not go down
the same route as before.
After I had calmed down myself considerably, I decided to turn the car away and drive towards my
pack.
It was almost close to evening, and I had not even realized that I had spent half of the day with
Madeleine or thinking about her.
Parking my car in the garage, I stepped out of it and was closing the door when I heard Raine call out
from the window, “Would you love to have some coffee?”
I raised my head to look at her, “sure”
My head was hammering and I think my sister just knew what I needed- a strong cup of coffee. After
locking the garage door, I walked inside my house and sat on the couch.
Ben wanted to talk to me about something based on the anxious look he had given me when I was
heading towards the door, but I had signalled him to wait.
I would talk to him later. Coffee came first.
Thus, I sat on the couch with my eyes closed and it was when Luke picked the strong scent of coffee
that I opened my eyes. Raine was smiling at me, holding a cup in front of my face.
“You could have simply said something instead of staring at me,” I said while taking the cup from her
hand.
She settled in the chair opposite me and took a sip, “Is it too strong?”
I took a sip and answered, “It's perfect.” I answered while smiling at her and even she gave me a
hesitant smile.
Raine was looking around instead of looking at me and this made me furrow my eyebrows.
“Is something wrong?”
She took another sip from the cup and answered, “Nothing, actually I was thinking of leaving tomorrow
morning?”
The cup almost slipped from my hand to hear that, “But you just came. Why would you want to return
so soon?”
Her fingers were drumming on the cup and she appeared to be hesitating to say something.
Sensing her hesitation, I placed the coffee cup back on the center table and got down on my knees.
Walking like a small kid, I approached her in the same position and placed my hands on her knees.
“What is the matter, Raine?”
She looked at me with a nervous smile and placed her hand on my face, “Why would there be
anything, little bro? I had just come here to make you attend the ball…and it looks like you are going to
attend it.”
I couldn’t bear the fact of Raine leaving me to go live with the humans again. I had just let go of
Madeleine. I wasn’t strong enough to let go of my sister in the span of hours too.
“Why do you love humans so much? Why can't you live with me…here?”
Raine placed her hand on mine and squeezed it, “You know why, Hayden.”
She was saying the truth but I wasn’t ready to let her go. “What about the ball? Didn’t you say that you
would attend it with me?”
Raine shrugged her shoulders and answered, “I had said that to ensure that you would go. But now, I
dont feel the need to do so.”
My face hardened as the words slipped out of my mouth before I could stop myself, “Is it because of Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Garron?”
She shot me a warning look, “Don’t drag him into this.”
I know I was being a spoiled child but that was how I was always to her. Like a kid who would demand
the world from her mother and she would just give it to me.
“I saw the look that passed between you and him. But, it's a thing of the past. Why would you let him
bother you even now?”
I tried to reason. If she was going to leave just because Garron had shown up unexpectedly I wasn’t
going to allow that.
“You know none of it was your fault. You didn’t know what kind of a person he is. You did nothing.”
Tears pooled in Raine’s years and I took both her hands in mine, “how long are you going to punish
yourself for something you didn’t do willingly?”
As tears trickled down her face freely she answered in an angry voice, “Until I feel that I have atoned
for my sins.”
“Atone your sins all you want. But, I am not letting you go. Not this time. You are staying here…with
me. And that is final.”
Saying so, I pulled her into a hug and she sobbed in my chest. I tried to calm her down as I had finally
succeeded in making her stay.
Now, I only had to find a way of making sure that the other girl stayed with me too.
Luke smiled at that and I couldn't help but return that smile.
