Chapter 228 Deliver Medicine
Chapter 228 Deliver Medicine
Dean Mills?
Everyone was slightly startled.
However, Lewis seemed to suddenly realize something and looked directly at Keira.
Indeed, he saw no sign of surprise on her face, and he frowned slightly as if he understood something. Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
He spoke directly to the butler. "If he's here, then he's here. What's the problem?"
The butler wiped his sweat and then said, "No, it's that he claims someone has been stealing from his research institute, he's brought the police to arrest that person!"
"..."
Upon hearing this, everyone's expression changed dramatically.
Logan swallowed hard and then looked at Keira. "It was you! You know Corey Mills, so you're the one who reported me, aren't you?!"
Lewis said in a deep voice, full of anger, "Don't accuse someone without evidence."
But Logan became furious. "The drug is under my management, and it's always locked in the safe. No one but Dean Mills and I can open it. Since Dean Mills is currently in Oceanion, how could he know unless she told him?!"
After that, Logan looked at Keira. "Even if I did steal the drug, it was for old Mrs. Horton. Don't you all just want to avoid giving shares? Let's part on good terms then. Why report me?!"
Selena frowned.
She said, "What else could it be for? She's afraid that my second great-granduncle will give out shares! This way, no one has to give out any. How convenient!"
She sighed silently and looked at Lewis and Keira. "Uncle, Aunt, the research institute has strict control over the drugs. By doing this, you are cutting off Great-grandma's lifeline!"
Nathan cursed in anger. "Lewis, you bastard, bastard!! Even if Logan broke the law, it was for your grandmother! An outsider has gone to such lengths for your grandmother, what about you?! Did a dog eat your conscience?"
Oliver then said ominously, "Dad, I think maybe Lewis wasn't in the know about this; maybe it was all orchestrated by his wife?"
At these words, Nathan grew even more furious. "Lewis, do you know about this or not?! If you don't know, and it's all your wife's doing, then divorce her right here, right now! We, the Horton family, do not want a disobedient daughter-in-law like her!"
Keira said nothing but looked at Lewis.
She didn't want to deal with the others, but some things had to be explained to Lewis.
She was just about to speak when she saw Lewis step in front of her and say, "It was our joint decision!"
Keira was stunned.
She had never expected Lewis to trust her so much...
That took her by surprise, yet her lips slowly curved into a smile.
Mr. Horton, upon hearing Lewis's words, raised his cane and aimed to strike him!
"Ungrateful creature! Lewis, you ungrateful son! I, I'll beat you to death!"
Lewis didn't dodge the blow from his granduncle, as the old man was elderly, and if he dodged, the old man might strain his back, and it would be disastrous.
The cane was about to hit him when Keira stepped forward and grabbed it!
Mr. Horton glared at her, his aged face wrinkled with rage, shouting, "What are you doing?!"
Keira sighed. "Granduncle, things aren't as you think. Let Dean Mills in, I promise there will be a turning point."
But Mr. Horton shouted angrily, "What turning point could there be? The police are here and will take Mr. Lee away! What about the medication? Are we supposed to hide it away?"
Logan sneered. "Even if you hid the drug, what about the rest? I didn't bring it at all!"
Mr. Horton then slammed his hand on the table, "Lewis, Keira, how can you be so stupid?!"
However, old Mrs. Horton said, "Brother-in-law, stop scolding them. Lewis and Keira aren't that kind of kids. They had to do it..."
Nathan sneered. "Mom, at a time like this, despite having given him over twenty percent of the shares, he's unwilling to part with even three percent. How can you still speak for him?"
Oliver spoke with a chilling tone, "Grandma, actually, if Lewis really isn't willing to part with those shares, I'm willing to help you out. It's just a pity that now the police are involved, we don't even have that chance..."
While they were talking, the butler had already led Dean Mills and the police officers inside.
As soon as he entered, Corey stared directly at Logan. "Look at you, Logan. I trusted you so much, thinking that as a distant relative of the Cobb family, you wouldn't be threatened by anyone. Yet, you ended up betraying my trust!"
After hearing what Keira said yesterday, he thought it was a misunderstanding and hurried back to Clance overnight.
But when he opened the safe where the drugs were stored, he found that a whole batch of fifty doses was missing!
He was completely terrified then and there.
He rushed back overnight just to give Nora an explanation!
Upon hearing this, Logan immediately said, "Dean Mills, let me explain. I did it to save someone..."
"There's nothing to explain. Officer, the evidence is solid; take him away," Corey commanded.
In front of Nora, Corey didn't dare to hesitate. "The value of the stolen drugs is immeasurable. The police asked us to make an evaluation. The drugs haven't hit the market yet, so no price has been set..."
That was actually for Keira to hear.
Keira snorted. "Just now, Mr. Lee was asking for three percent of the shares... Let me see. How many billions of dollars is three percent of Horton Group's shares?"
She turned her head to look at Lewis.
Lewis played along, "It's about..."
"No, no!" Logan panicked!
Now his crime would be judged based on the price of the drugs. If it was really several billions, he might be sentenced to life in prison!
He looked straight at Selena and shouted, "I didn't ask for three percent of the shares; she's the one who wanted them. I didn't take a penny; I just wanted to do something for the Cobb family! You can check my bank account if you don't believe me; there's been no large sum of money coming in recently!"
That statement was true...
Being a distant relative of the Cobb family, he could use this incident to strengthen his ties with them, the future value of which was incalculable!
His words left Selena pale as a ghost.
Seeing that all of Selena's schemes were exposed, Keira was finally satisfied. She scoffed. "Well, let's calculate it as a hundred times the market price after the drugs are released!"
Clinical drugs that haven't been released were definitely more expensive than those that were on the market!
Corey understood and reported a figure to the police, a number not too high; at most, it would get Logan two to three years in prison.
But Logan's reputation in the industry was utterly ruined, and he would never again be able to be a researcher once he got out of prison.
This was his greatest punishment!
Logan was soon taken away by the police, leaving only the Horton family members.
Old Mrs. Horton sneered. "So it wasn't Logan who was being utterly unreasonable, but Selena who wanted the money. What's this? Even as the first branch of the family is seeking medicine for me, do we need to be so clear-cut about money?"
Selena turned as pale as paper!
Oliver smirked bashfully and then said, "Grandma, are you still blaming us? No matter what, Selena found the medicine for you! If Lewis had just agreed to give up the shares earlier, we wouldn't have had any of this mess. Now, look what's happened, the drugs are gone!!"
Nathan frowned. "Lewis, just for the sake of shares, would you disregard your grandma's life? You are truly cold-blooded and ruthless! You're heartless and disloyal! I don't have such a son!"
Mr. Horton also slammed his cane on the ground, truly anxious and deeply worried. "Lewis, even if you knew this was a trap, even if you knew this was the first branch's conspiracy, was there a need to be so ruthless? What do we do now? The drugs are gone; how will you answer to your sister-in-law!!"
Lewis didn't respond to these accusations but confidently looked toward Keira.
Indeed, the next moment, she said calmly, "Who said the drugs are gone? Aren't they delivered now?"
