Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 639

Once upon a time, Selena waited patiently for him to wake up and realize what a mess he'd made of things. She hoped he'd see just how much of a jerk he'd been, then come running back, full of apologies and begging for another chance. She thought she'd feel triumphant when that day came, but instead, she was calm, her emotions as still as a quiet pond.

"Selena," he said, his voice heavy with regret, "I owe you an explanation about Margot."

"Even if you don't want to hear it anymore, I have to get it off my chest."

He gently guided her to the couch, his hands gripping hers as if holding on for dear life. His voice was a soft, sorrowful murmur in the dim light, each word dripping with genuine remorse.

Selena listened in silence. She'd convinced herself she was over the whole Margot thing, but now anger surged through her like a storm. Suddenly, she yanked her hand away and slapped Everett with all her might.

Her hand shook, her face twitching with fury. "It's just absurd, Everett! How could you... how could you do this to me?"

"Yes, maybe I was naive, wanting to marry you and win your heart. But I eventually realized it was just a fantasy. I was ready to walk away. You had your obligations-to repay your brother's kindness, to be there for another woman. If you'd just divorced me, that would've been fine. But why use me as some kind of sacrifice?"

She slapped him again, harder this time.

Everett stood there, taking it, not moving an inch. He knew he deserved every bit of it. Deep down, he hoped that if she could just let out her anger on him, maybe just maybe she'd give him another shot at making things right.

Selena was so upset that even her baby seemed to sense it, growing restless inside her. She winced, discomfort etched on her face.

Seeing her distress, Everett panicked. He pulled her close, holding her gently, patting her back to soothe her. "Selena, if you're mad, take it out on me. Do whatever you need to do, just don't hurt yourself or the baby."

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry... it's all my fault..."

"What good does your sorry do?"

Selena trembled in his arms, her hands clenched tight, veins standing out on her skin.

Everett closed his eyes, feeling the weight of his mistakes.

Yeah, what was a sorry worth now?

He'd always thought of Selena as the one who'd be by his side forever, that they had all the time in the world. And because of that, he took her for granted, not realizing how much he was hurting her. And

Everett pressed his lips together, steeling himself to say what had to be said.

"So, I'm going to set you free."

"Selena, if you really want this, let's get a divorce."

"Happy birthday. This is my gift to you."noveldrama

Selena pulled away, her face still streaked with tears, but she met his gaze steadily. "Alright, if that's the gift, I'll take it."

Even though he knew it was coming, Everett's heart felt like it had been stabbed.
