Chapter 182
Jimmy had failed to get what he wanted and ended up hurt in the process. He was boiling with rage and plotted to grab another chance to kidnap Selena and get back at her by making her suffer. But before he could even set his plan into motion, Everett's bodyguards nabbed him first.
Judging from the setup, it was obvious Everett was out for revenge on behalf of his wife.
Wasn't there talk about the couple not getting along? What was the real deal here?Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.
Even though he was puzzled, Jimmy, who'd clawed his way up from being a nobody to a decent businessman, was no dummy. He was a pro at reading the room and knowing when to push forward or back off.
He quickly plastered on a smile. "Mr. Bennett, I've heard so much about you. My business can't hold a candle to the Bennett Corporation. As for offering your wife as some kind of business deal, I really have no clue what you're talking about. Maybe... you've got the wrong guy?"
Playing it up, Jimmy pretended to take a closer look at Selena, then theatrically slapped his forehead, "Oh, Mrs. Bennett does look a bit familiar... Right, it hit me! A couple of months ago, I had a bit too much to drink and called for some company here. That girl did have a passing resemblance to Mrs. Bennett... Mrs. Bennett, could you have wandered into the wrong room? Maybe I just got it all wrong?"
"Mr. Bennett, I messed up and accidentally crossed a line with your wife. I get a little dumb when I've had a few too many." As he talked, he slapped himself hard on the cheeks. "But if you don't know what you're doing, you can't be guilty, right? Please, you have a big heart. Forgive me."
Selena sneered, seeing right through him. He was using his drunkenness as an excuse and blamed her for walking into the wrong room. That was just vile.
Everett's dark eyes narrowed, and he didn't speak for a moment.
Jimmy thought he might be onto something, a glimmer of smugness in his eyes. It seemed like Mr. Bennett didn't really care about his wife. Maybe it was just his bruised ego. No guy liked to be made a fool of.
All Jimmy needed to do was pin everything on Selena.
With that thought, he pressed on, "Mr. Bennett, swear I had no clue why she would be in a club like this late at night and randomly walk into a suite Maybe she had plans with someone else, but I'm innocent. I'd never dare mess with your wife."
After all, only Jimmy's two henchmen knew about that night and they'd never rat him out. Jimmy thought he'd drag Selena down with him if he couldn't dodge the blame.
Selena was shaking with anger. Jimmy really knew how to smear someone!
She instinctively glanced at Everett, who had been silent the whole time. Was he going to buy into Jimmy's story?
As the seconds ticked by, Selena felt a chill creeping in. Was Everett still doubting her like always?
Finally, Everett moved. He didn't bother asking Selena if it was true Instead, he sent Jimmy sprawling with a graceful swing of his leg.
The move was so smooth and impressive, but Jimmy felt like his shoulder blade had shattered. He grimaced in pain, wailing loudly.
Everett calmly removed his jacket, tossed it aside, loosened his tie, and slowly rolled up his sleeves.
His deep eyes met Selena's, and with a soft, gentle tone, he said, "Selena, close your eyes."
