Married At First Glance: I Am Not Ugly

James Fernando

“I know it’s going to be a tough conversation, but it’s the right thing to do.”

“Do you feel ready for that conversation?” Anderson asked.

“I think I am. I just don’t want to hurt her feelings, but I also know that I need to be honest. I’m just nervous about how it will go. What if she gets upset and doesn’t want to be with me anymore?” Alex said, his voice full of worry.

“I understand that you’re worried about Jessie’s reaction, but it’s important to remember that you can’t control how she feels or how she reacts.

All you can do is be honest and hope that she understands where you’re coming from. And even if she does get upset, it doesn’t mean that your relationship is over. Sometimes people just need some time to process their feelings before they can talk about them. You’ll be fine dude.” Anderson said to Alex.

Just then his office phone rings and he picks up.

“Sir, Jaime Fernando is here to see you.”

Alexander rolled his eyes as Jaime was the last person he wanted to see right now.

Should he tell her that she should tell him that he is busy?

“Sir?” His secretary called out since there was no response from him.

After a short moment of hesitation, Alex spoke.

“Let him in.”

“Alright sir.” His secretary said and then the call ended.

“Who is that?” Anderson asked.

“Someone I hate to see.” Alex replied.

Anderson nodded in understanding as he knew who Alex was talking about.

“Jaime Fernado right?”

Alex nodded.

A few minutes later, the door to Alex’s office opened and Jaime entered. He had a confident smile on his face, as if he knew something Alex didn’t.

“Hello, Jaime. What brings you here today?” Alex asked, keeping his tone neutral.

“I just wanted to stop by and say hello, and also to check in on you and your lovely wife, Marissa. How are you two doing?” Jaime asked, sounding genuinely curious.

Alex felt his anger rise at the mention of Marissa’s name. He knew that Jaime was just trying to get a rise out of him, and he wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction. He took a deep breath and calmed himself down before responding.

“We’re doing well, Jaime. Thanks for asking.” Alex replied, keeping his tone polite.

“That’s good to hear. I’m glad you two are doing well. I saw how cozy you guys were with each other in Switzerland and honestly, I was a little jealous.” Jaime said as he sat on the couch and crossed his legs.

“What about um… What’s her name… Jessie?” He asked

“I thought you guys were still together before, but finding out suddenly that you are married not to her but to someone else… Well, I was surprised…”

“Don’t you have better things to do with your time than coming here to torment me?” Alex said, frustration in his voice.Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.

Jaime leaned closer.

“Well… I have a meeting to get to, I just stopped by to say hi. Please extend my greetings to your lovely wife Marissa.” He said and got up to leave, placing his hands in his pocket.

When he got close to the door, he turned and spoke.

“Oh! Before I forget, I wanted to say congratulations on securing the contract.”

“Thank you, Jaime.” Alex said his face serious.

“I will take my leave now.” Jaime said as he opened the door and closed it from behind.

Alex leaned back in his chair and let out a deep sigh. He couldn’t believe how shameless Jaime was, coming to his office just to taunt him. It was obvious that Jaime was trying to get a reaction out of him, and Alex refused to give him the satisfaction.

But Jaime’s words still lingered in his mind. He couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off about the way Jaime kept mentioning Marissa’s name. It was almost as if he was trying to provoke Alex by bringing her up.

“I think Jaime suspects that you and Marissa’s marriage is fake because he knew about you and Jessie,” Anderson revealed.

Alex’s heart started beating seriously.

“What if he meets Jessie and tells her about me being married to Marissa?” He asked.

“It could destroy all that we have worked for. Because if that client finds out about it, they will never trust me with any contract again and also they would never refer me to other companies. What should I do, Anderson?”

Anderson was quiet as he thought deeply about what Alex just said.

“I understand your concern, Alex. But I think you’re overreacting a little bit. There’s no way for Jaime to prove that you and Marissa’s marriage is fake, even if he met Jessie. And even if he did try to tell people about it, I don’t think they would believe him without any proof. I think you’re worrying too much about a situation that may never happen.” Anderson said, trying to reassure Alex.

“You’re probably right. I’m just paranoid because I’ve worked so hard to get to where I am today, and I don’t want anything to jeopardize it. But if he meets up with Jessie before I tell her. What do you think would happen?”

“I don’t know dude. That’s why I said you should tell her before she finds out herself.” Anderson advised.

“I know it’s not easy, but it’s the right thing to do. Jessie deserves to know the truth, and the longer you wait to tell her, the harder it will be. I know you’re worried about the consequences, but I think it’s better to be honest and upfront with her. You’ve always been a man of integrity, Alex. Don’t let that change now.” Anderson said, looking directly at Alex.

Alex knew that Anderson was right. He couldn’t keep living a lie, and he couldn’t keep putting off the inevitable conversation with Jessie. He took a deep breath and nodded.
