Chapter Eleven
“I just had a long conversation with the Lombardi. It’s Russo’s mafia’s family…”
Rick addressed Peter, who might not know the fact. He wasn’t sure if Amara had informed him about them. But Peter nodded as Amara had told him the first day Rick revealed the information to her.
“I don’t know how his guys find the evidence but we are currently double-checking the facts. But it seems that this was an inside job, meaning this was from our side. I’m double-checking our security and changing our protocol every couple of hours just to minimize the leak but I think it’s best if we meet them tonight.”
Amara was suddenly alert, she didn’t know anything about security but one thing she knows that someone wanted her head.
Peter was looking at both of them in panic, he too didn’t know the slightest thing about keeping his boss safe. He knows something was wrong when Rick ordered his two men to check on the perimeter, leaving the three of them to converse.
“Are they coming here or are we meeting them? My dad’s funeral is tomorrow…” Amara asked Rick who was still looking on guard.
“We will get you there, I will personally guard you with my life. But yes they’re on their way here, as a matter of fact, they’re on their way up.”
“Amara, these people are dangerous but they can keep you safe while I’m not entirely sure with my team at the moment. And I’ll do anything to keep you safe, including putting you under their protection and this is Russo’s family.”
The mention of his name still made her heart shattered. But she was not given the time to process her feelings when her door burst open and her guards showed up with three guys who all looked mysteriously dangerous.
“Leonardo, this is Amara Hamilton. Amara this is Leonardo, Matteo, and Paolo.”
Amara had met Leonardo and his family a couple of weeks ago. Antonio introduced him as his cousin when they accidentally bump into each other as they were having dinner at Silvio’s.
“Thank you, Rick, we’ve actually met…” her words were a bit shaky, as she was trying hard to hold back her tears. Meeting someone from his side of the family was a bit too much for her, knowing it was her that had caused his death. That she was responsible for his death, she kept on thinking if she didn’t hook up with him then he might still be alive.
“Amara, don’t…” Leonardo knew that she was about to break down, that she was starting to blame herself.
He had known Antonio all his life, and he had never seen him so happy and content before. The adoration that he saw in his cousin’s eyes was the first, Antonio had always stood up to his player reputation until Leonardo saw him with Amara Hamilton.
“Leo, if I didn’t…”
“Hey…” Leo stopped her words when he pulled her into his arms, then she sobbed and hated herself for being such a crybaby.
Matteo and Paolo looked at their boss and move back to converse with Rick and give them both some privacy.
She was still teary when Leo whispered in her ear telling her to be near him at all times. She was quickly alerted when Leo grabbed and move her behind him.
Then all hell breaks loose within seconds, masked group of people was entering her penthouse, she was looking for Rick and Peter when loud gunshots were heard and repeatedly fired. Then she saw them Rick was lying in his pool of blood, while Peter was pulled back by Paolo as he was holding onto his bleeding abdomen.
No… no… no…
Amara was crying for Rick and Peter, she was drained, cold, and suddenly her feet were lifeless.
“Shit! Amara get up! I’m not getting you killed.” Leo called her out, while both of his hands were firing bullets targeting and killing more men as they entered the apartment door.
They were trapped, the masked men ambushed them in their weakest moment.

Amara could feel her body was getting pulled away as she hover above Rick’s lifeless body when they passed him.
“He’s dead, we need to move NOW! Paolo, get the guy, hurry! I’ll cover you.” Leo was shouting in the middle of chaos.
Then she looked at Peter who was being dragged away by Paolo, it was all moving so fast she didn’t know how they managed to put them in their car.
Matteo was in the driver’s seat while Paolo was to his side. Amara was holding on to her dearest assistant as he was grunting from his wound.
“Here, there are gauzes and medical tapes inside. Patch him up to stop the bleeding, it’s a through and through. He should be fine in a couple of weeks…” Leo passed her the medical kit, then he was busy reloading his bullets and back to shooting a couple of cars that were hot on their trails.
“… Amara! look at me, you’re strong! you can do this.” Leo made her face him as she was still in shock.
She blinked and nodded at him, her eyes were still teary and she was trying her hardest not to have a panic attack.
“Don’t die on me, Peter! I still need you to function. Who’s going to type my report? who’s going to fix my schedule? don’t you fucking die on me, cause I don’t have time to vet for another you… there’s no other you…”
She was babbling as she opens his shirt, then gasped as she looked at the bloody abdomen. She took a deep breath and let her hands work, trembling but finally managed to patch him up and put her hands over his red-stained gauze as his blood started sipping through the white material in seconds.
“I know, I’m here boss. Not… going… anywhere…” he was struggling with his words, and she was holding on tighter to his body and let his back rest to her front. Her tears trail down her cheek as she watches Peter’s face getting paler with each passing minute.
She didn’t even realize that the car had stopped and that Peter was taken away by Paolo until Leo helped her out of the car.
“Amara, we’ve… Shit! Matteo, you’re bleeding.”
“I’m good boss… well, maybe I’m not so…”
She screamed when Matteo falls in front of her with a loud thump.
“Damn, always the drama queen, get up you big brute,” Leo muttered to his right-hand man, his underboss, who was apparently been losing too much blood and decided to faint on the driveway of his house.
“Amber baby, could you get the guys to help me out with him?”
Amber was by his side in seconds, then she hugged Amara tightly knowing the fact about Antonio. Amber too had met with Amara on the day they had dinner at Silvio’s.
“I’m so sorry Amara, we’ll talk later I’ll go get the guys. Leo! put pressure on his wound, he’s leaking blood!”
Leo, just like our other mob boss, was obviously still smitten by his wife. He just couldn’t resist looking at her a little longer in any kind of situation. Yeah… if you don’t realize by now our leading ladies tend to be the center of attention of their men.
