Chapter 5 Where Is the Truth?

“Ms. Rowan, my boss has paid for your grandma’s medical bill” The driver passed several receipts to

Clara Rowan.

Clara Rowan tremblingly took the receipts and looked at the medicines bought. She finally felt relieved

and asked expectantly, “Did Steve Lane send you to pick me up? “

She knew that there was a security camera in front of the building and that Steve could see her!

The driver shook his head, “Mr. Lane stole everything from you and compared you to a dog. What do

you expect from him?”

He pulled open the rear passenger seat. “Ms. Rowan, please.”

Clara raised his head and saw a man sitting in the back seat of the car. His legs were slightly folded,

and there was smoke lingering between his fingers. Just sitting there, he let off an aura of aloofness.

“I don’t know your boss... “

“My boss will tell you what you want to know.” The driver said, “By the way, he does not like to wait for

others.”

Clara knew the meaning of his words.

She didn’t know the man inside the car, but she really wanted to know the truth. She bit her lips and

stood up. The moment she moved her leg, blood started to flow.

The driver at once wrapped up her wound and gave her a bath towel. She wrapped it around herself

and entered the car, sitting beside the man.

The car started quickly.

Clara saw the man’s flawless face through the light in the car. Between his slender fingers, there was a

cigarette. His profile seemed familiar.

She pursed her lower lip, “What are you going to tell me?”

The man did not answer. He just turned his head, his cold eyes sweeping over her, finally stopping on

her neck.

“Return the necklace to me.” The voice was low with a bit of coldness.

Clara reflexively touched the necklace around her neck, and hearing the word ‘return,’ she realized that

this necklace had come from the man that night. Her entire body shook in anger.

“So, the man that night was you!” She had seen the side of his face in the photo before!

“You also sent me the text message, didn’t you?” Clara asked, raising her hand to slap the man, “You

beast!”

“I didn’t send you a text message, but I booked that room. “ The man raised his eyelids and glanced at This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

her, “Do you want to know why you came into my room that night? “

Clara’s hand stopped in midair.

She remembered that indeed she went to the door. Yet when she had been about to knock on the door,

someone had pushed her inside.

“What kind of joke is this?!” She laughed in anger, “You booked the room, who else could have sent me

a text message if not you? I have no enmity with you. Why do you want to hurt me?”

The man, Ethan Preston, sneered coldly. “So stupid!” he exclaimed.

“......”

Not waiting for her response, the man pulled the necklace from around her neck, took out a

handkerchief to wipe it, and ordered the driver, “Go to the hotel and take Ms. Rowan to see the truth.”

“Yes sir.”

Soon after, the car arrived at the underground garage of The Follen Hotel.

The memories she had of the hotel were not good. She remembered the scenes from that morning and

her body trembled.

Clara Rowan’s leg was wrapped in gauze, and she was soaked through. She was miserable beyond

measure.

She followed Ethan Preston into a certain room, held the bath towel to her body, and asked with a

frown, “Where is the truth?”

Ethan Preston glanced at the driver out of the corner of his eye.

The driver at once took out a remote control and turned on the TV on the wall. Soon, the layout of a

room appeared on the TV.

It seemed to be surveillance footage.

Clara saw two familiar people enter the room. It was Steve Lane, who had just divorced her, and her

best friend, Ruby Leke!

“Steve, congratulations on getting what you want.” Ruby hugged the man from behind, her slender

hands going over his body. “But you are really cruel. You didn’t leave a penny for Clara. I heard that her

grandmother’s medicine is awfully expensive!”

“She’s an old lady, better that she dies” Steve said in his cold voice, then he turned around and gave

Ruby a deep kiss. “It’s all because of your work finding the weaknesses of those shareholders that I

was able to get the ARCTIC shares from them and effortlessly seize the company.”

“You are my boyfriend. Who would I help other than you?” Ruby hit the man. “I have taken care of the

police station. Even if Clara is alive, she will not be able to find anything. However, Steve Lane, are you

this cruel? How did you dare act against your adoptive father and mother?”

Hearing Ruby’s words, Clara’s mind went completely blank. Her body swayed and she fell into a broad

chest.

It turned out that her parents didn’t die by accident, it was Steve Lane who killed them!
